Self-awareness! 💁🏻♂️ I am hyper-sensitive (typical ADHD behaviour) especially if its a matter I care about. That said, it easy to just scroll past my comments or just add me to an ignore list. I’m not saying anyone can’t enjoy her current music. I’m just stating my opinion on a forum (which is what a forum is primarily made for). If we all had the same opinions, there would be no need to discuss any of this.

I mean we are the people that basically make sure she can afford making music for herself. 💀 She can at least feed us every now and then? If she doesn’t wanna make a new BTD/UV/HM/LFL she can always release that unreleased anthology set she previously talked about. 🤷🏻♂️ I'd take that and shut up for a while. Like I get that from an artistic standpoint she doesn’t owe shit to us but come on…she must know at this point that her current music isn’t clicking with as many people as her discography up to NFR. From a business standpoint that is a bit problematic.

Her current music? Yeah maybe not but I have her unreleased catalogue and previous album along with a few good songs every now and then to enjoy. I just miss the days where I hit play and ended up loving each and every song on her albums. Now it’s hitting play and desperately hoping for a song that isn’t elevator music. I know she still has it in her to surprise me. A&W was fucking amazing. Peppers sounds promising and Grandfather was much better on the second listen. I just don’t like the overall vibe and direction she has been pursuing for the past four albums. She stripped her music from nearly everything that made me a fan in the first place. I know there are a lot of people in her fan base who feel the same way. I’m just not afraid to say it. That’s the difference. Either way, I'm very happy that she's finally being acknowledged as the talented and visionary artist she is and I will root for her if this album gets nominated for a Grammy even if I don’t end up liking it cause she deserves it so much. This album seems like it would be right up the Grammy committee's alley. So she might have a chance this time around!

I will and I hope listening to them untagged will be better but so far I am not impressed. The songs are leaning more towards the title track which I listened to twice and then never again. I just really can’t stand her automatic writing songs. They just aren’t interesting to me. They are like long poems without memorable melodies imo.

Not sure if I already did this but overall her openers tend to be hit or miss for me. 1st ranking: Song quality (How I would rank the songs regardless of them being openers and more based on personal preference) Love Cruel World Ride Born to Die Norman Fucking Rockwell Text Book White Dress Honeymoon 2nd ranking: Opening (Does the song set the mood for the rest of the album? Was it the best option from the album overall?) Ride Honeymoon Cruel World Born to Die Norman Fucking Rockwell White Dress Text Book Love I think the only one here that really shouldn’t have been the opening track is Love, especially when 13 Beaches was RIGHT THERE.

The song just doesn’t make me feel any type of way and trust me, there are some piano ballads that give me the feels. With Hope I feel she tried to convey a certain type of emotion that simply doesn’t click with me (and the majority of her fan base). Give me Bel Air, Old Money, Love Song, Is This Happiness, Happiness Is a Butterfly any day over this. I think she's much better if she sticks to less complex structures because that’s where her melodies and the emotions of the songs truly shine. A&W and Venice Bitch however, are examples where she managed to create some sort of excitement through a rather complex song arrangement and structure. The thing that annoys me with Hope in particular is how awfully pretentious it sounds in terms of lyrics and how the change in dynamic in the chorus leads to a dead end. It’s just very very unsatisfying for me, personally.

I don’t consider it as her best work, lyrically either.

Hope being somewhere "up"? Wasn't this like a bottom 5 song from NFR for most people? It would never cross my mind to compare A&W's excellence with the dreariness and utter boredom of An iPhone Is a Dangerous Thing for Lana and Chuck to Have - But They Have It.

Um… I think you might be confusing the emotion of fear with suspense maybe?
