    The sound:

Now that Jack is gone it's pretty clear that Lana is the one whose vision involves a minimalistic aproach when it comes to the music, and we should get used to it. She's in a quieter headspace than when she was younger and that's part of growing up.

She's less ambitious than who she was in the 'Born to Die' era, she feels more at peace than the chaos she felt during 'Ultraviolence', and she doesn't really care about playing it safe and try to cater to broader audiences. She'll probably never ditch de piano ballads as long as the outer sound is reflecting her inner vision.

    No.

If she keeps going into that direction with every song being forgettable I will just stop caring for her in general honestly. I will not and have never been the type of fan that will force himself to like anything because it’s an album/song by my fave artist. I think that is a very shitty approach. After all, we are the ones that pay for her music. If she doesn’t feel like putting effort into her music, I will not feel like putting money in her pocket. It’s as simple as that.

The lyrics on VFR are some the best but I am also someone who would rank it low on my BB faves (although I do like it and it’s growing on me daily) - but only because I love her soaring, complex melodies and this is one that doesn’t dance across the keys as much, the melody is more constant across a few notes at the chorus. I would bet the people who rank it low feel somewhat similar—my theory is:

if you would rank songs like Guns and Roses and Black Beauty (similar stagnant melody structure) lower, you would probably not pick VFR as a favorite either—same for vice versa, if you enjoy those a lot you’d love VFR…

    anyone agree? :um2:

I love Black Beauty and HATE Guns and Roses. I don’t hate VfR but don’t care for it either.

She explained a lot of her old lyrics with VfR

Roses are Lana's love for her boyfriend(s)

Violets are Lana's sadness/pain when her boyfriend(s) leave her

    "I love rose gardens
I plant violets every time someone leaves me"

    - My Bedroom is a Sacred Place Now - There Are Children at the Foot of my Bed

    "Roses, Bel Air

    Take me there

I've been waiting to meet you"

    - Bel Air

"There are violets in your eyes,

There are guns that blaze around you

There are roses in between my thighs"

    - Honeymoon

Why are you calling it a filler

Cause while lyrically it might have some meaning to it, it’s a boring and tuneless song.

    text book is hideous please

The only song on the album next to BBS, Dealer & Thunder that has anything going on.

Lana reworks a song and everyone has a meltdown over changed lyrics and production choices they aren't happy with

Lana doesn't rework a song and she should have changed it up a bit

    :ma:

That’s because she changes the songs that didn’t need it and didn’t change the songs that needed it. :ma:

I’m just not 14-16 anymore and don’t relate to her older albums like I used to. I like her evolution and think BB and NFR showcases her strongest singer songwriter capabilities.

ALSO Blue Banisters has dealer so instant #1 for me:hooker:

Very much disagree, both on a lyrical and musical basis. Sorry that you aren't enjoying the folkier sound.

The songs from her last three albums are almost indistinguishable from another. What I loved about Lana was that she somewhat changed up the sound with every album. Now, she seems plain lazy and uninspired even going as far as reusing some lame outtakes that have already leaked instead of going for an Anthology album like she teased.

I'm just sick of country/folk. It has always been my least favorite genre. I don’t listen to Lana Del Rey for her vocals cause lbr they are not that great. I liked the interplay between her catchy and sad melodies and the cinematic production that is now gone. It makes me mad I have to sit through three albums that sound like they were all recorded in the same session. Y’all can’t tell me it doesn’t bore you at least a BIT.

and I don't want to be a debbie downer, @The Love Witch, but once an artist gets older and begins to receive more acclaim and recognition for their abilities as a songwriter, they very rarely go back to the sound of the old days. They usually continue exploring and experimenting in that same universe. I love that you love those records, so I hope you continue to cherish those albums!

Well in that case, I will have to burn my stan card cause her recent output is really not good.

I'm so, so, so happy she decided to choose Nectar of the Gods, Living Legend, and Cherry Blossom over Fine China, Yes to Heaven and I Can Fly. Can't stop thinking about how this was quite possibly the best decision she has ever made. The album would have been a straight up 6.7/10 instead of the 9.5/10 it is. :lange:

Fine China, Yes to Heaven & I Can Fly are straight up better than NOTG, LL & CB. I'm glad she didn’t waste them on this album though. The album is a 3/10 for me. Her second worst after COTCC.
