Agreed—I think Gabe Simon’s production is too minimalistic AND clean, it has to be one or the other. I even thought that about when he did “Summertime” for her—I wanted it to be more wild and lo-if jazzy! Not a hair is out of place on these tracks and it can be sonically less exciting than the other producers, although I do love all three new songs!

At the end of WW when she’s singing “Like the others, baby, like the others, baby, like the others, baby burns, burns, burns” I want to start singing the “can I get a fuckin hallelujah” part of the Cherry bridge

I can’t wait for this album! I feel like “text book” is such a culmination of all her greatest melodies/progressions. These one won’t make sense until you sing it in your head (do it!) but... I love all three tracks and don’t have any complaints, but one note: could you IMAGINE WW with UV-style production?! Add a couple electric guitars and a cheaper mic and bam you get Shades of Cool 2.0

I cannot get over this classic Americana imagery she has painted for us; summer coming and going, homemade birthday cakes, chicken running and being barefoot in the yard, hot coffee on a hot day, vintage Ford cars, painting banisters, and dogs swimming in a salty bay... What I love most about her songbook is the feeling, how you can almost stand in that moment with her as she’s singing and see the sights, smell the scents, hear the goings-on. It’s like a painting come to life. These scenes could easily be from an Edward Hopper, or more uncannily, Norman Rockwell painting.

Do any other Twin Peaks fans hear the Audrey Horne dance vibes in Text Book? (xylophone? can’t determine exactly what that sound is but it’s the same!)
