Ok BOZ kind of just confirmed it is coming on ATRL.

Why don’t people like him again? Is it because the surprise ended up being the listening parties?

I hope it does get released one day, but the fact that other unreleased songs have been registered on that site in the past makes me think that it’s not a sure thing. Someone should ask BOZ now that he is back.

I thought this album was a little underwhelming on first listen, but I love it now. I mainly appreciate that Lana tired new things on this album. From the folk-trap A&W, gospel elements in The Grants, the jazzy elements on Candy Necklace, the uplifting nature of Margaret and Let the Light In, and the great use of sampling in Peppers. I think the interludes add a lot to the album as well even though they do go on for a bit too long. The only songs that come of as filler to me are Sweet and Fishtail. I just don’t think they add anything to the album, but they are still good songs.

I feel like she will never fully go back to that style of writing. It wasn’t until she started getting more personal in her writing that critics started to call her one of the best songwriters of her generation. She seems to value the opinion of critics more than anyone else, so she will likely continue on that path.

Since Lana said she doesn’t care about World building anymore, I don’t see why they can’t just release this song as part of a deluxe version of DYK. It would help with album sales/streams at least.

Yeah same. Rick is good at a lot of things but that type of production is not his thing. Summer Bummer and Groupie Love are pretty good because actual hip-hop artists/producers were involved. You can really tell when they weren’t on songs like In My Feelings.

She could have at least brought back Mike Dean for some of those songs. It was really a waste to only have him work on WW.

I wonder why a lot of the publications that usually review her albums(Entertainment Weekly, Albumism, Paste, PopMatters, Under the Radar, etc..) didn’t review it this time.

I don’t get why her team has never put one of her songs on Spotify’s biggest playlist(Today’s Top Hits). Melanie Martinez and Lorde were both put on there despite having less monthly listeners. Peppers or Paris, Texas could have done well on there. I know she doesn’t care about charts, but this album deserved a bigger push from her label on streaming services.

I checked on AOTY, and her albums usually get 35-36 reviews. This one only has 26 right now, but BB also only received 26 so it’s possible that we will not get anymore.

This too. Before NFR, Lana didn’t have a universally acclaimed album and people still loved her music. At this point it seems like NFR was an outlier. It’s more important to see how the album ages and how it does on end-of-year/end-of-decade lists.

Yeah I get it, but this is like another Alexis Petridis from The Guardian situation. Some people that don’t like her are going to be allowed to review the album. Don’t think there is anything we can do about that.

I mean they gave most of her albums really good scores pre-NFR. It seems like they don’t like the direction she took after that.

LOL. It could have been worse I guess. Also there is no way Lana is getting to the #2 spot in the US. Jimin is projected to do 140k now. #3 is still good though.
