this is probably the wrong thread to ask this in -

i’m not really a halsey fan but i do really like nin and i’ve heard very good things about the album

and i kinda want to listen to it but i don’t wanna be disappointed

btw i’m a pop fan first and foremost so i’m obviously not afraid of pop music i just have been turned off a bit by halsey cause she sounds like the indie girl welcome to my kitchen vine no offense meant :toofloppy:

basically the question is should i listen do you think i’d like it etc etc

I listen to pop, I like NIN and rock in general. It took me a while to like the album and I like the majority of songs and will be buying the vinyl as soon as I can afford to. So much effort was put in it but not in a cashgrab way. So definitely give it a listen. The only 'meh' songs are the cutesy ones about her baby lmao. You get used to the edgy mood of the album so the songs seem out of place.

I was never bothered by her indie girl voice because she kinda owns it. She eventually stopped so it's safe to check the rest of her albums, although I'm not a fan of them except Badlands.

    this was the same year

That song from Zendaya had me on chokehold in 2012-13 :trisha:. It was constantly on repeat on my shitty first android phone and I wanted that pink jacket so bad.

if you think it's their problem when this haggard euphoria-knock off has been has barely made an effort herself.

an punk-ish grunge girl trope that exists for decades = Euphoria knockoff. If you said Effy/Skins knockoff it would've been less embarrassing. Zendaya was on Shake It Up when NTMT was released.

  4. Thoughts on the scandal?

IMO she was acting like a brat throwing a temper tantrum. Just wave at those people for 10 seconds ffs and celebs need to realize that their tantrums are still not acceptable. People like her who tell people not to look at them

She posted a new Instagram story but it's just another throwback picture from 2011. Imagine how tired we are.

I saw it. God, I hate irrelevant celeb throwbacks. It comes across of that person living in the past. She constantly posts early 2010s throwbacks. She should try to be 'that girl' 2.0. and reach a younger audience on Tiktok that's already obsessed with the past.

  6. I watched this video and immediately thought of Sky. It's the part where the majority of signed musicians are promised the world but instead go in debt. I already speculated that this may be the case with million dollar contracts but this only confirmed my opinion.

I also thought of the member of G.RL. who committed suicide allegedly because of financial problems. The group wasn't like little mix but I remember it getting some buzz and going viral in 2013-14. You would think that they had a solid salary and had it easy because of their group being moderately successful.

I feel like Sky was never rich enough to return all the money to her label because, let's be real, she was tumblr famous but not a single music video of hers has 10m views; views➡️clout➡️money .

Lover by Taylor Swift is so bad, I really tried but every song was a skip for me-ee-eeeeeeee :toofunny: And this is coming from someone who likes Red, 1989, Reputation, Folklore & Evermore

Agree, sounds like a song for weddings and for couples to use it as a background song on social media. I never liked those kind of love songs. Her other Lover singles like Calm Down and Me! are also pretty bad, the catchy chorus parts sound like a school choir.

also with ari apparently making a disco record. we are trapped :defeated:

but olivia rodrigo and all her doppelgängers making music that was popular when i was 14 is terrifying

Definitely. I loved pop punk in middle school but this constant recycling of old genres is embarrassing. We don't need gen z Avrils and Paramores, we need something fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if not a single new rock style was made by 2030 and Maneskin remained the only real rock band. I was a teen in the 2010s and although we had the grunge revival, we also still had the fresh sound of Arctic Monkeys, The Neighbourhood etc.

How epic would it be if she just dropped all her old songs on SoundCloud like Eva Simons did last year or I’m surprised she hasn’t resorted to selling them herself like Neon Hitch did.

NO. I would have to download them as mp3 and listen to them in my gallery separately from my streaming app. It sucks. You forget about many songs.

    now hold on

Literally my shower thoughs. I love retro sounding music, The Weeknd has mastered it. Lana is retro but at least doesn't rip off a certain decade like many do. I feel like it's so trendy nowadays to have a nostalgic sound that artists don't want even to want to try to be original. I always think of Pale Waves and how their music is literally 2000s angsty teen main character music. Many of Dua Lipa's FN hits have very recognizable old samples which is much more likely to become a hit even among the gen x than to think of an original melody.

Wait so... if this isn't Lana then who is it?

I always thought it was her but not that it was from 2006

Her nose isn't that small after plastic surgery. I think the pic is heavily photoshopped so she would look like Barbie.

  12. Not even my alternative loving friends don't listen to this band. It's also very similar to Lana and obviously inspired by her. I'm not sure if they belong in the obscure category but I only know one person who listens to them.

    Stream everything by The Marias

I love every single song they release since they have a similar vibe.

????? this comment is so weird.. when she released vogue our understanding of gender was v different

Duhh. Read my second sentence. I feel like nobody outside of tumblr know what gender fluidity and non binary was before 2016. I just noticed how that would be offensive nowadays.

Yeah I even not say "she or he" now, just refer to everyone as they, people will come for me

Honestly I don't care. It's easier to refer an anonymous user as they but I can't believe that people refer to obviously cis people as they just because they don't have pronouns in their bio. It's weird. Gender neutral language isn't introduced in my language yet because it's complicated so we're not sensitive to that.

Watch her drop Descending finally at the end of the month. Then no album announcement for another year.

Lmaooo that was the most realistic scenario on the entire thread. People here thinking that Sky might release a double album is delusional  although I would love it.

A double album sounds like something Lana or Beyonce would release but with a bigger break in between them. The only double album I know is Use Your Illusion, so double albums are incredibly rare already.

  15. Every time I listen to Vogue, like literally every time at the line "It makes no difference if you're black or white, if you're a boy or a girl" I think how Madonna would be cancelled for not including non binaries if that song was released after 2016.

    it would my nightmare actually

We love Lana but we have to admit that her style is a hit or miss, mostly a miss. I can name only a handful of looks where she was genuinely breathtaking.

I really hope the album will have a lot of NTMT (song) and DHL moments.  prefer the less noisy, cinematic and dark sound over her more pop-ish stuff

Same. She's extremely good at what you described but we need something pop-ish especially in this era. Alternative artists are too comfortable with dark/sad/deep songs. When I think of alternative music darker songs come first to my mind. I feel like the album will be sappy, like the songs she released with music videos except the title track.

Ugh and I can't belive Marina "Mother Nature' dying" Diamandis is working on NFTs now.

So fucking stupid that pop artists are doing this while also sharing in Instagram (just like Sky) ways to fight climate change.

I will never understand celebs like The Weeknd who make millions of dollars a month, having their career thriving and still jumping into the NFT bandwagon. Same for Paris Hilton. It shows that these people will be money hungry till the day they die.
