Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll

4 stars from the Guardian in a very positive piece. Pleased because I was looking forward most to their review. "...in the current climate of laborious genre-hopping and guest vocals on throwaway chart tracks, Del Rey has remained a mystery. She is consistent in her aesthetic, adding zeitgeisty elements to her sound without being dictated by them. And for that reason she exists in a lonesome, luxurious league of her own. It’s not why she’s smiling, but it should be." https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/jul/21/lana-del-rey-lust-for-life-album-review -

4.5/5 from Attitude Magazine "...for those who have been at any time captivated by her work, this continuation of her journey includes some of her best material. We don’t need Lana to change it up too much when she’s crafted herself her very own genre." http://attitude.co.uk/review-lana-del-rey-lust-for-life/ -

Positive review from GQ! "At a time when some of pop’s biggest acts are suffering from an identity crisis (ahem, Katy Perry), Lana Del Rey’s self-awareness blossoms throughout Lust For Life. She treads new and familiar ground and although the album is not a masterpiece, the foundations are there for Del Rey to build on for her next LP. Like Lorde's Melodrama, Lust For Life is an accomplished piece of art, an antidote to the banal tunes permeating the charts and one of the best albums released this year so far." http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/lana-del-rey-lust-for-life-review -

Heroin, 13 Beaches, and Tomorrow Never Came are some of the best songs of her career. I absolutely love how in this record, notably in the bridge of Heroin, she sings with an intensity and passion that was virtually non-existent on Honeymoon (which was beautiful as it was somnambulant) and even Ultraviolence. I'm also a massive sucker for countermelodies so songs like GBA with the countermelody in a later chorus hit the spot so well for me. I would also say that this is her first album where I've felt that the production lets it down somewhat - her songwriting and lyricism is as strong as ever and the songs are beautiful - but it would have been nice to have dispensed from the cheap sounding trap beats and tacky "wall of sound" bass that plague songs like In My Feelings and Coachella. If these songs were produced more like 13 Beaches, then in my opinion the album would be close to flawless. -

don't have anything to say atm other than I love this bitch bitch! FUCK! -
Can't help but feel the bridge is really directed towards fans who broke into her home - how she calls them kids and how she says she's sick of it

This is probably the most personal interview she's had for several years, maybe because it isn't one of her friends phoning her for a chat. After reading it, I'm sad that Lana still feels sorta lost and that her mindset has not changed to the point that she originally envisioned the record to represent -

It's a great album but it's let down at times by the overproduction - several other tracks have Coachella-quality production and it's seriously not cute. Lyrically it's very good and melodically it's excellent. I can't hold a straight face listening to Cherry because I can't take the random "BETCH" and "FUCK"s in the background seriously at all. The other collabs are very very good -

It would be really cool if 13 Beaches and Cherry were gapless and/or told a story in two parts - 13 Beaches talks about paparazzi and her finally finding a beach with dripping peaches. Cherry talks about all her peaches ruined - but maybe the song could be about paparazzi too? Certain lines like "smiling when the firing squads against you" evoke for me personally images of paparazzi pointing cameras and "celluloid scenes", "black beaches are ruined", "set on fire by fiends" give that sort of vibe. Then again, 99% sure I'm massively projecting -

now that we know for sure that the song SR will never appear on an upcoming record as it's been remade into 13 Beaches, can we get more info on it like what it actually stands for -

OH MY GOD 13 Beaches: love the distorted spoken vocals, highly excited as it's supposed to have a horror feel Cherry: fuckin amazing, can't believe the reason it's marked explicit is because she yells "FUCK!" as the chorus comes in White Mustang: it's ok I guess lel In My Feelings: the worst title has the best snippet - in love with the explosions of sound at the chorus and the high vocals - love her flow in the verses (Note to say that Coachella actually sounds excellent when in the context of the snippets around it - perhaps it won't be the bastard child of the era after all) GBAAATBWII - prechorus sounds like a Florence song in the best way possible - chorus sounds promising WTWWAWWKD - very chill, don't think I've heard enough to really form any sort of opinion BPBP - she sounds very sweet and the lyrics are expressive and interesting - reference to Video Games kills Tomorrow Never Came - sounds like a soundtrack song to a romantic epic where the two lovers see each other again as the sun rises and they run towards each other in slow motion - it's beautiful Heroin - the Old Money of this record - her voice is so clear here it's amazing Change - in HQ it no longer sounds so boring - looking forward to it Get Free - sounds exactly like something directly off Honeymoon - sounds like a thoughtful way to end the record I've had a mixed reaction to both Summer Bummer and Groupie Love but these snippets honestly excite and impress me so much - hype fully restored -
