so... i just finished listening to perverts, and...

I LOVE IT! i have to be honest, i didn't really expect myself to love it, or for it to really connect with me, i like several songs off of preacher's daughter, but it just didn't wow me the way it did with many people, also, i just simple wasn't too keen on the amount of reverb used, i went into perverts with an open mind, but i did anticipate that i would be bored by it, since i'm aware how difficult it can be to make ambient music and/or excessively long music to be engaging (although in my liked songs i have just one day of endless love by katie jane garside which is nearly 20-minutes long and is literally just some lo-fi electronic bells and her murmuring and singing incoherently... but i don't listen to it that often LOL) or that i wouldn't really like the production, but i really, really liked it, every track offered something valuable to me, i am genuinely so glad i went out of my way to listen to perverts, it will most certainly be a mainstay in my rotation <3

some highlights... the vocals on perverts, i love how her voice sounds androgynous here, also, how it sounds very primitive, almost as if they spoken thousands of years ago by someone long-forgotten, now just dust, yet, also futuristic, like a rudimentary, yet constantly-evolving piece of intelligent, robotic technology, which in itself is something scary

houseofpsychoticwomn is very interesting and might just be my favorite off of perverts, despite how chaotic, bleak, and honestly scary it is, it feels extremely intimate, and hearkens back old, vague, deeply-buried memories of old crushes, old friendships, and old hopes, most of which were probably snuffed out by the passage of time, changes of events, and maturing of minds, i love how it seems to either sample/reference ptolemaea, also, houseofpsychoticwomn seems to either sample, or shares a sample with this, infant ra by inca ore

i really love the spoken-word intro of pulldrone, i found it immensely fascinating

and, lastly, i love the calm, melancholic, bittersweet feel of amber waves, also love the fact that the title references the classic patriotic song america the beautiful, which feels very ethel cain to me

hayden, if you're reading this, i think perverts is wonderful, and i hope you'll continue to do your own thing, and continue to further your artistry, don't let anyone get you down about it, and do not be afraid to continue exploring new sounds, new genres, and for your art to be as weird, inaccessible, pretentious, and fascinating as you want to be <3

I don’t wanna make this about her husbands politics again but with everything that trump, elon & the rest of the republicans are doing I don’t understand how she can idly sit back and watch everything her husband supposedly supports, happen. I would be wanting a divorce if my partner was actually happy with the state of the US at the moment.

Okay so at first, I wasnt fully convinced about Addison Rae. I liked a couple songs from her EP a lot, but didn’t see the *artist* within her that she would very soon blossom into. Diet Pepsi was good, but not mingblowing to me at first (it would grow on me very quickly), and I honestly didn’t know what to make of Aquamarine on first listen (I play it almost every day now). High Fashion is the most immediate earworm in her catalogue for me. The hook is so catchy but the production on it as well as the vocals are both so interesting and unique. The video is also great (though I still think Diet Pepsi might be my favorite of her videos so far), and I really hope she keeps up this upward trajectory in her artistry! Tbh, it’s really impressive how successful her rebrand is starting out to be, considering she got famous at such a young age for such a looked down upon profession. It’s hard for people to remember that at the end of the day, she is a person, just like us. And people change as the years go by and what they want out of life may drastically change, too. That seems to be the case with Ms. Addison Rae. I hope she sticks to her guns here cause I’m really excited to see what she does next!!!

Punish is not trying to justify pedophilia (more so Ethel isn’t but the narrator in the story is), it’s an exploration of shame. Here’s what she said about it

“I wonder how deep shame can run, and how unforgivable an act could be that I may still justify it in some bent way to make carrying it more bearable,” Cain says in the press release. “Would I tell myself it’s not my fault and I couldn’t help myself? Would anyone truly believe that? Would I?”

I see both points, dont get me wrong! I dont think shes standing up for pdfs or anything like that, but i would have loved if she had clarified a bit more about why it is wrong… i get she was trying an impartial approach for the sake of art, but specially being about a real life case i think she should at least try to make her position more clear…

i do love heavy topics, but i think trying to get simpathy for the perpetrator is a bit too much… specially with her recent controversies online about incest and all that stuff. Pederasty is not a kink or a philia, is a crime that should not be compared to other “sexual desviations” in my opinion. From what i gathered, the initial concept for the album was to talk about different types of philias in each song, and to compare this behaviour to them seems a bit dismissive to the actual gravity of child abuse

but i guess thats the art of music everyone makes its own conclusions
