  3. Wow this is very pretty! I love how crystalline her voice sounds and how large she sounds. I do wish the bridge was longer but it was gorgeous and now I have hope for future bridges on the album! NFR is a masterpiece but I wanted more bridges on the songs
  4. Wow you summed up my feelings about Lana really well tbh. When she said she decided to release Violet because she was proud of how honest it was, I kind of took it as like 'eh another hippy dippy thing Lana would say' but after reading it and really sitting with it for a while, it makes perfect sense and has helped color the way I see her. More OT: This is actually just like perfectly comedic. Her reading off 'Happy' at the super loud typewriter with her nails, checking her phone, her makeup being so done but being in a bathrobe, the LDR monographed on it like she knows she's rich, the questionaire formatted like a question for an influential thinker or maybe a beauty pageant contestant, the camera angles in the bathtub... It's literally so camp. I love it.
  5. This is performance art. This is exactly what I wanted when I heard the album was 'chemtrails over the country club' and we learned she was going blonde again. Iconic.
  6. I hear "Drink this body from that can of gin" and "I'm no candle in the wind". also, maybe "fucked your way up to my bed again", but im not sure.
  7. Sportcruiser is very very good. That was storytelling. Also, yes Jack's contribution totally pulls this together and is really appropriate without ever being too much. He should do incidental music for some indie stuff tbh.

  9. Interesting! I interpret it a little differently. I think what makes this song hit so hard for me is because shes referencing old songs like Flipside and Shades of Cool and combining it with sentiments from references and more recent songs like Get Free, Change, Mariners Apartment Complex, etc. while still being effortlessly referential Looking back at the UV era, Lana seemed to be in a dark place at times... but now she's in a different space, she's "the board, the lightning the thunder" shes "your man", etc. She knows her lover is still going through things, he's still depressed, changing his mood with the wind, but she's got a new perspective that she can share with him, "I heard the war is over if you really choose, the one in and around you" (John Lennon/Yoko quote, but also Ride/Get Free "I got a war in my mind... I never really noticed that I had to decide, to play someone's games, or live my own life, but now I do" Beyond that its just the extreme lengths she would go to to make him feel safe, comfortable, loved etc. because she still cares about him and is also capable of grounding this man and being strong for both of them. Regardless of interpretation, its such a heartfelt song. A Highlight for me. I personally love the chorus but I could see how it could be even better with a stronger one. My main gripe with the song (and a minor one at that) is just that the outro should've been more pronounced. OT: PLEASE @@Elle could you ask about Violet bent backwards over the grass? I want to know if shes got any plans to release it.
  10. For whatever reason, I woke up today hearing this album with new clarity and wow its hitting me all over again. The greatest is really a classic song that I know I'm still going to be crazy about in years, same with Venice Bitch, Norman Fucking Rockwell, and Love Song... It's crazy how good this record is.
  11. This BITCH (I mean that in the nicest way ) I'm howling, she's actually so basic and funny.
  12. That review is another generic "All of Lana's music sounds the same, no matter how different it sounds" review. She gets one or two every album she releases, still plagued by this idea that creating a world and inhabiting a character is reductive rather than expansive... To me it screams a lack of critical thinking and understanding... And a total disregard for the way the culture has changed in the last 7-8 years and how that has impacted her lyrics, singing, aesthetics, etc... Even listening to the music alone, the production, melodies, lyrics, and themes have marked departures from older "Lanaisms" if he stopped to actually listen/think about things... The "lead" single, MAC is literally her reclaiming this narrative that she's perpetually depressed, tortured femme fatale... Hope is her clarifying her journey in a way that she's never done before... Let me stop
  13. This is easily her most consistent and cohesive album, jesus christ. I STG If this gets a lower Metacritic score than LOVER though, I'll scream.
  14. I don't want to presume her dreams and hopes and what not, as those are personal to her, but I do recall her talking about wanting to find a safe haven of poets, artists, and friends and freedom when she first got into the business but instead she was met with corporatism, drama, etc... Now here she is writing and producing an album that is folk-pop lite with psychedelic influences and very traditional instruments with little to no record label interference into the artistic direction of the record, and no pressure to have a Hit single or #1 on the charts, and she's writing poetry again, and thinking about publishing it as a vanity project rather than a financially motivated venture. She like, actually wants her writing to be out there even if its in a few ma and pa shops for free. Idk many artists who have the freedom she has, but she certainly built it for herself. I certainly feel like she's doing well for herself now. More OT: I still havent heard TG, FILY, California, or Bartender at all, and ive only heard the insta snippets of Cinnamon Girl, NFR, Love Song, and Happiness is a Butterfly. My most anticipated is The greatest -> California -> Bartender of the entirely new stuff, but in general I'm really pumped for Love Song and Happiness is a Butterfly, even though I've heard the most of that from the snippets.
  15. I had to listen with no volume because I want to fully experience those tracks with their videos or the album, but WOW she looks amazing. What a vibe. Not what I expected but I'm a fan! We know she has done casting calls for 2 more videos right? or was it just 1, I can't remember. (Lets be real, even if that one is filmed, it'll never see the light of day or be a video for a later single years down the road, lmao)
  16. Get Free -> The Other Woman -> Bel Air -> HIADT -> Yayo (Original would be above The Other Woman) -> This is What Makes us Girls - > Don't let me listen to this song again
