Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread
AphroditeBaby replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
Guys... The way I legit started tearing up during Love Song... My first thought was, with a title like that from Lana it has to be special, you can only name one song "Love Song" and for an artist that writes about Love so often.... Then I found it was In Your Car and I was like "what?" But then she sang Oh... Be my once in a lifetime" and the way her voice delivered it, It just hit me, like open the damn floodgates. If this song gets any bigger production wise it'll be one of her ballads for sure -

I havent heard the new snippet leaks yet other than NFR, but NFR sounds like its going to be my favorite so far still. I'm holding off on California/The Greatest/Fuck it I Love You, I want them to be entirely new. -
Lana to release an Album & Poetry Book in 2019
AphroditeBaby replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
This essentially is just for fans, lets be real. Poets and Poetry fans aren't going to be buying this like hotcakes all over the market (Which isn't that large in the first place ), if they did I'd be surprised. I think this is decent. It's confessional esque. I doubt Lana thinks shes Sylvia Plath 2.0 or anything but poetry, like music, is subjective. Her use of certain techniques here leaves a lot to be desired, not that there's any obligation to for ex. have iambic pentameter, a certain rhyme scheme, couplets/quatrains, enjambment/end-stop, etc in 2019. The anaphora about being rich, but not how they think is going to make a lot of people be like "ew" and rightfully so in this one. Still, it has its ups and downs for me. I quite like the long chains about being happy with this person. It does make me want to read more, if for no other reason than to hear more of her tone/style at the end of the day. I also hope "Violet bent backwards over grass" is a titular poem, because it sounds extra af and I'm here for it. *edit* The title is from a longer line - Violet bent backwards over the Grass, Seven-years old with dandelions grasped tightly in her hand She also said "It's sort of in the vein of deep poetry where anything is allowed and it's totally free-form. Sometimes my pages will end with a couplet, right at the end, but it's mostly free-form." That applies well to this, and its not everyone's cup of tea. -

That was the best song I've heard all year like oh my god? Jack WON?! I was thinking i wouldnt feel the guitar solos/interludes but omg the song grows and there are vocals throughout so it doesnt feel bare and the actual guitar solo is so lowkey psychedelic and sweet and PERFECT for driving and just kind of letting things happen, wow. And the return to vocals + outro and the little clover interlude/reference, I'm SHOOK. 11/10 MAC FOUND DEAD IN A DITCH. I was hyped af for LFL, but this exceeded it. if there are even like 3-4 songs better than Venice Bitch I will be SHOOK. -
I have my only class today in an hour, is someone gonna record this interview and upload it?

Even if they somehow make magic (which is possible) I just can't shake the idea that she's going to sing something or have an idea for a song and he's going to try to make it really different and she'll be like "fuck you" and we'll have a record 80% produced by Daddy Nowels with a few Jack tracks, or we'll get some insider teasing about these tracks but they'll never leak in full

*edit* nvm, didnt go back far enough oops Honestly, Focus >>> No Angel, at least studio ver.

All the petty drama about hoarders and leakers is just so damn messy I try not to get too into stalking her unreleased, because I know there's just so much to want for and shit, I'm just gonna take what comes when it does if I happen to notice and let her release shit as she does it. I've wanted No Angel since the first recorded live I saw though, so I'm beyond grateful for this

I'm shook, my signature on LFL is real, it looks just like that I got mine during that whole "are they even signed by her" biz and I was actually so pissed at her for cancelling my show I just also assumed it wasn't a real signature, so I never paid any attention to it and just put it under my bed Well, I'm a bit happier now

I'm wary of listening to anything other than what is released/being performed live or whatever. Isn't this girl releasing an album TBA: with all the singles

This album changed my life, whew. It had such an impact when it came out, I was in the perfect (or worst?) head space for this album, every song just hit me like a brick wall and scalped me. I loved BTD, played every song on it to death, it was still fresh in my mind (I got into Lana in late 2012, early 2013 post Paradise), and I expected similar sounds with UV, but I wasn't ready. God bless Dan Auerbach for transforming this record ultimately. So much crying, so much replaying of every single song, so much swaying around in my bed room, at one point I was just like on the floor. I'm getting emotional thinking back to that day.

Lana to be featured in Elvis Documentary - The King
AphroditeBaby replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
I'd rather she release a new song. Elvis is one of her worst unreleased, maybe she wrote a new song and just took the title and scrapped that one entirely, its pretty tragic. "Chan da leer" -
HAH! They are an esoteric gay mess, but thanks

I just want drama and beauty. To me, the drama in Lana's music comes from the topic of each song.. Even if the song is just about finding a beach to sit on w.o paparazzi, she finds a way to sing about it like its the most important thing in the world that has ever happened to anyone, whatever the sentiment; its the most devastating, the most heart breaking, the most thought provoking, etc... and now thanks to more happy Lana, I want to know what it feels like to hear it be the most life affirming - perhaps not even in a romantic sentiment. A few tracks on LFL do this; Get Free, Love, and Lust for Life mainly. (Rip Yosemite, sounds like it would fit there too). Maybe this is a bit selfish of a concept, or extra, etc. but think about it... doesn't falling out of love feel like the end of the world? The songs of her previous albums to me convey the depth of that feeling very well from Lana's perspective, and I can relate because I feel like I am similarly hyper emotional about things, but not super open about it, so listening to her music is kind of like listening to the intensity of the way I perceive things myself... I know I'm overthinking this and being gay as hell, but whatever. This could be folk, or whatever genre really, but I just want beauty and drama; theatrics. Doesn't need to be a full string orchestra (though that is always welcome). More concretely, I love the dream pop influences in Ultraviolence with the wall of sound choruses and all of that slow burning glory that kind of carried into a few tracks on Honeymoon. To me, these are quintessential Lana.

I am HEART BROKEN. I honestly didn't know she was going on tour. I could have easily gone to her show, she had one in MISSOURI, HOW RARE Capacity of 750 too, and I'm sure it wouldn't have been sold out, could've gotten so close to this queen.

Legit I've been like "who is Kim Petras?" and not hearing her verse at all on Unlock it by Charli since it came out, with that processing they sound almost exactly alike. But I heard IDWIAA today and holy crap, then I went on to Hillside Boys, Heart to Break, Hills, Faded, Slow it Down and WOW. This is that early 2000s bubblegum pop I have always wanted. Her working with Dr. Luke is very and makes me not officially want to stan her, which is a damn shame, and I hope she gets away from him eventually. Still, these songs are cohesive, but different sonically, lyrically "okay" and her vocals are actually kind of powerful and good, much better than I expected. Hillside Boys gives me an early Fame era Gaga tea too, where her voice was still very high feminine but punchy. Where can I hear "For Me"? Is that a leaked song or something?

Wow. Vocals on point. Transcendently beautiful too

I don't mean to sound too genius lyricsy (because believe it or not, I had known about this phrase before the song came out ) but I always have two images in my head with that line (which is one of my favorite in the entire record) White Tennis Shoe syndrome is the phenomenon of the mind making up excuses in order to procrastinate doing really important things essentially (it comes from an anecdote of Ayn Rand, the writer, coming up with excuses before writing, and right as she's about to start she realizes she never cleaned her white tennis shoes from last summer) So Lana is maybe saying - embrace this lack of responsibility and carelessness (put your white tennis shoes on and follow me) because she and her lover are abandoning all material posession, attachment, etc. for each other. She will never sing again, he won't work another day, thats how strongly they are committed to this, or she wants them to be. White Tennis Shoes are also very mid-Americana aesthetically, so there's also the possibility that she likes that. He's putting on his white, pure, clean tennis shoes and going with her on an adventure/journey, the next chapter of their lives together. The assumption is that he has a clean canvas that will at the end of the journey be painted/dirtied or filled in with the experiences they make together.

Honestly, I hope its an EP, then in a year or a year and a half (But no longer ) We get a new era with a full album that's a totally brand new idea and not a follow up to anything. I like the idea of mostly ballads for an EP (then she can include Roses Bloom For You and Yosemite heh), as long as its well produced and polished. Even tho Change grew immensely on me, its production is still pretty weak and I don't mean because its literally a piano + Lana's voice, its the amount of polishing and what not thats done. Honeymoon had some tracks that had aged like fine wine or cheese in production and vocals, lyrics, etc. (though we don't have demos) like Honeymoon, MTWBT, Freak, Art Deco, Blackest Day, etc... even though the album was finished relatively quickly after Ultraviolence. And Lust for Life it seems had some lazy or needlessly re-worked and modified songs production wise. Like, the trap beats on every song other than Cherry and Groupie Love are SO lazy and stereotypical and honestly uninteresting. Jack Antonoff, as much as he's suddenly hated (Melodrama is a masterpiece of production in basically every track, so clearly he has potential lol) is not the kind of producer to not go his fullest on tracks and make them organic and interesting. I hope he had time to sit down and get to know Lana and her style and didn't just put some generic stuff on some of her vocal demos she's made on her probably now broken phone. (This is all assuming anything they did makes the record. There's a good chance in 2 or 3 months Lana will be like "Nah" and use a recycled demo from Rick )
