My heart goes out to all those and their families affected directly, and the feelings afterwards...

coming from the NYC area, 9-11 and the aftermath-
    the rush to war
the rush by the Republican president and party to segue from the goal into something having nothing to do with 9-11 which opened a can of worms internationally

plus the on-going problem in the USA where seemingly every other week there is some major event not from international terrorists, but from US (mostly white) gun owners
shooting up a theatre, a supermarket, schools, etc. and the seemingly un-ending availability of bullets and guns in the US, and the ultra-large lobby group the NRA
having no significant opposition to ridding the streets of this problem (one most other nations took care of decades ago, or never had the problem itself).
(All because of an extremely badly written constitution which doesn't say what the gun lovers here say).

    freedoms vs. security

and if I can say- in the NYC area, for the last 40 years, any concert I went to in a big or small place, we were always frisked. Back in the 70s it wasn't for security reasons,
it was for illegal small tape recorders so one wouldn't tape a show
IN the 80s it was for booze but one has known if they go to events they would be checked.

As someone who has been familiar with Daniel for decades now (I also once met him in Texas), already very familiar with this song.

Lana does a great job, and the great thing is, Lana is introducing who knows how many people to Daniel and his music. Which is what is so great about Lana.
Look how many people she has led people to- from Lou Reed and Nina Simone and Leonard Cohen and the hundreds of references in her songs to so many others.
To newer or obscure acts including Barrie.

Great cover, and the changing of the words from lifetime to long time in the last verse makes a lot of sense if one knows Daniel and his story and would not make much sense
    with Lana.

Very proud of Lana for this.

Wow I actually had no idea at all who Daniel Johnston is so I looked into it and this documentary actually seems so extremely interesting and like... Human maybe I don't know, it touches my sensibility as a creative person, I'm definitely going to look into his music and I'm really excited to see the movie, hope they pass it in London. Lord knows how much and how different the ways are I love Lana but I really adore how it goes further than just her, the artists and things I've discovered through her are moving and changing things constantly around and inside me and transforming my life while she stays the main focus, she made me discover things I never would have knew without her because she's so different from all the rest of what I love and I'm so grateful for that. I'm so so so happy she showed up at the première, I love when she cares a lot about something. Really eager to see how it goes and to hear the song

I am dismayed to think I am one of the few who loves, loves, loves the photography for Honeymoon by her sister Chuck Grant

It is 100% spot-on perfect for what Lana is saying (conveying).

I am surprised more don't get it.
  13. writtenxrabbits liked a post in a topic by graham4anything in What has Lana done for you and how has she changed you?
As probably one of the older people here (horrible thought, I used to be all of your ages),
I was aware and into Lana as Lizzy early on. (and this is going to have a few separate parts to it)

However, in 2011-2012 had a major health problem ended up in hospital for 5 days (though no procedure was done).
Doctor called it almost like a parent does- he gave me a time-out to reevaluate my daily intake of food and real soda. (In essence a cheese and coke addict (coke=cola)
Not to mention it had been more than a decade of not going to the doc to begin with.
While there with my computer completely listening to Lana/lizzy wall to wall and from major fan it turned to major inspiration.

In reality, Lana saved my life. Sounds corny, family members think it is bull, however, it is true.
She brought me through and afterwards as I continued to rehab my lifestyle, and for the first time in years began an exercise program where I swim (now at least an hour a day).
And I swam to her in perfect timing (Lana's beats per minute coincide with my hands slapping down into the water (Salvatore is the latest, but I do a perfect sync to Video Games
and Pawn shop blues for instance.

Lana is for those in some ways bullied, flawed, injured, in a way that is not describable and that I never felt before.

A little background for the other thing-
I am someone who was around throughout the 60s and music and politics was my life's fun. (WABC top 40 radio, Cousin Brucie and Dan Ingram DJs) where in the summers in NYC at the beach
just about every one of what seemed like millions of beach goers in Coney Island and Riis Park had their transistor radios all tuned together, so if one walked from the beach to the shack to buy a coke in a green bottle on a day when the sand burned the feet and it was feeling like 100degrees (f).  (WABC continued into the early 1980s before become a shitty conservative talk radio I wouldn't be caught dead listening to).
From actually being there when the English invasion began, Roy Orbison in real time, Sinatra with his 60s hits (That's life, Something Stupid, My Way, NY NY)
and seeing Elvis Presley live in concert (and to this day his later 60s/70s songs are my favorite as I heard them live time real time as they were happening)
Seeing Duke Ellington live in concert, Simon & Garfunkel live in Forest Hills stadium in their prime. Saw Nina Simone and Aretha and Ray Charles
then going to the earliest days of Elton John and Bernie Taupin (1969 onward)
From the mid70s discovered country music and went backward to the 1940s,1950s,1960s legendary artists saw Johnny Cash many times.
(Went to see the Highwaymen and the first time I wondered, why is Johnny there. The second time I saw them, I already realized Johnny is the important part of the group, without him, there wouldn't have been the others)
and first discovering Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich and Aznavour and Brel and bing Crosby (saw him live in NYC and saw him light the City Hall Christmas Tree and singing White Christmas)
Then punk and new wave (Saw many acts at CBGBs and Max's Kansas City, saw Lou Reed many times
Then continuing to Kate Bush and the Pet Shop Boys. (while continuing with Elton)
and then, music started to suck big time. Sure there was a single or two that was great, but nothing that made me want to discover everything and anything about an artist

and I was sure there never would be.

My favorite songs of all time are and have been consistent over the years
from the first time I heard them (and both were #1 and #2 the same week)
1968's MacArthur Park by Richard Harris & This Guy in Love by Herb Albert
#3 The Boxer- Simon and Garfunkel 1969
#4 Whiter Shade of Pale- Gary Brooker's vocal as Procol Harum 1968
#5 Elton John's Someone saved my life 1975

Until I heard Elizabeth Grant sing and her songs, and it made me think-
If I myself would put together the perfect musical act, with a spoonful of all the artists in the past, Lana would be the one.
    It is uncanny.

Now, if I made up my all time Top 100, at least 40 songs would be Lana's. After decades of the list never changing.

anyhow...again, Elizabeth Grant saved my life. And I thank her for doing just that.
What an inspiration and what a perfect person for the age when bullying and abuse is heard in the news almost daily.

and as I keep saying, Lana has transcended above every single female artist, writing lyrics as poetry and the music too, and producing, and the sounds and music are akin to Brian Wilson "Smile"
or the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's". (and the Beatles were 4 people, 2 main songwriters (John and Paul) and George Martin producing.
or Elton's Goodbye Yellowbrick Road or Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (and Elton only does the music and doesn't produce, and Bernie writes the lyrics)
And how important it is- she PRODUCED every song on the Honeymoon album. She is one of the boys in the highest parts of music.
And I don't give a shit if nobody else here agrees with me. A complete artiste in a world filled with cookie cutter copies. One Lana/Elizabeth.
Others attempt to copy, attempt her style, but one hears a Lana song and it's a Lana song.

Like eating a slice of pizza or a bagel outside of New York City and they call it NY Style. But it ain't New York Original.

(and btw, Drake still never has a #1 single, so I guess Karma kicked him in the ass for dropping his record  and keeping Lana at #2 even though she had sales worthy of #1 in so many other weeks this year
(Drake btw achieved less sales than the prior  one (so do the 2 resident H'ers think Drake is a bomb) and Adele kept him out of the #1 (and if she don't hit 30Million world wide, I guess applying it to Lana standards
Adele will have the biggest bomb of all time (an analogy)
  16. delreyfreak liked a post in a topic by graham4anything in Honeymoon Sales
    For comparison sakes

just this week, Lana's first week totals for Honeymoon would have surprassed by far  Pentatnoix(who have the #1) and Demi Lovato in album sales

and well, Adele better sell 30million worldwide and 11.2 million in USA otherwise she is a total failure according to logic of some of the posters here.
And Adele just disappeared for a few years, no photo ops, no layouts, no boyfriend news, no nothing at all. (and Adele's song reeks of her stealing Video Games chords) as does Taylor Swift's #1 song which is a 100% direct
steal (other artists would have already sued and gotten a writing credit)

So if Adele only sells 5million, she will be branded by the same Debbie downers and sad sams as a total and utter failure, right???

If Lana cared about more sales, she easily could have tacked on as bonus hits some of her movie songs, or her duet with Weeknd could be included, many times in the past same song is on 2 current albums

Meanwhile if Weeknd's lp is nominated for best album, that means Lana gets a best album grammy nomination (and same if it wins).
And Lana gets a % of every single copy Weeknd sells

    Response to 155-
Elvis and Elton and the Beatles never released 5 songs from the same album
Elton in fact released 3 albums in a year some years, and only had 1 single off Captain Fantastic.
The Beatles never released any single at all from Sgt. Pepper's and were only around 6 years as a group (and then each member sporatically released new albums).
Michael Jackson released a lot of singles, but then, it took him forever to release new music

Meanwhile Adele is now copying the opening and closing of Video Games for her first new single off her first album in how many years? (hello...hello...hello...)(note-that is not a negative, that is just
how Adele does things, but that is not for me.

Me, I would prefer new material every year over 1 mega selling album every four or five years.
After all, it is me that is listening to it and once an album is out, imagine people here on some of the other artists sites (like Adele) saying "I'm bored, when is she doing anything, year after year nothing"
getting into Kate Bush territory (and Lana has far outsold Kate Bush in the USA both album and singles wise anyhow).

Lana should have writing credit for both Taylor & Adele's song.  The inner satisfaction though shows Lana stands way taller than both Taylor and Adele. (If it were me, I would sue).

but the press loves Adele, because she is the one (like Celine Dion who never met a song she didn't understand and mangle) did the 300 talk show circuit,

    touring is a funny word.
One could do 20 shows and not consider it a tour these days (or one could do like Kate Bush and play one place for 3 months and nowhere else, after 40 years of zero concerts).

Just one-offs at festivals followed by a bonus show in a nearby town and it is not considered a structured tour

However, her words were not necessarily referring to not touring-
they implied "Honeymoon" tour. Now, her last tour wasn't an ultraviolence tour it was "the endless summer" tour.

being that Lana most likely would only play 3 to 4 songs from Honeymoon interspersed with her greatest hits and not play the album 1 to 14.

I think in January and Feb. they will start to announce the lineups for the mega-fests of 2016

Save it for the new album in 2016

actually, 2 or 3 albums a year would be perfect

Elton John used to have that many a year in his biggest years

and Johnny Cash had a great song titled "What is truth"

as the helicopter was at the start of the song and the video, and Lana said at some point she had the image in her mind, both came together at the same time
