THANK YOU FOR THIS! I had been looking for several of those
-
Slay @ someone finally making a thread for her. Found out about her back in May of 2014 and have been dying for an album! I Can't Stop Drinking About You was so close to hitting it big on radios too

From the Target CD listing:
-
It's also not like she's reliable about releasing music she promises to anyways
-
I'm hoping. I know they do more than one when they shoot it and its all recorded in a studio before hand but it doesn't mean we'll get to see/hear everything they do
-
I wish she would do her whole album like this. Those versions of Hurricane and Ghost she did with the electric guitars with the high reverb like this version of HMD are my favorite, it works so well with her voice

Ugh......when is she gonna drop Renegade..........

She was just very dismissive of what little amount of fans she had there at the time (there were like maybe 30 people there and it was a small acoustic set). Most people there only knew her from what they had seen on the Voice, I had looked into her more at that point but she really didn't have much out there. At the show people tried to ask her about the voice and tell her about how much they loved her on the show and she just kind of shrugged it off while playing cover after cover as she really didn't have her own material at that point. She was miserable the entire show and it got to the point where it was like it was pointless to sit there and watch her sigh out the covers she did on the voice and listen to her vague and uninterested answers to fans questions/comments.

I mean I'm not saying they're doing the same things. I'm saying they are geared towards the same market. And their vocal style definitely has very noticeable similarities. I get that whatever Melanie is dong now is conceptual, I just think it all hits in the same 15-25 year old internet wanna-be indie but still mainstream accessible market.
-
Idk I stopped paying attention to her after I saw her in December of 2013 and had to walk out of one her shows because she was being such a pompous douchebag. That Carousel and Dollhouse song sound pretty much the same as Halsey's style to me and imo they're both just as big of douches to their fans so maybe because you're a fan you see otherwise but they seem like they're in the same lane to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

London Queen & Breaking Up were confirmed for the punk album. She had talked about a song with Rivers for it so probably Hanging Around, and I think Gold Coins as well was meant for the punk album (might be wrong on that one) + Mow that Lawn
-
I think the songs are definitely similar & I'm sure Halsey (and specifically her label) are trying to cut into Lana's market because theres clearly a lot of money to be made and a pretty large window for it, but at the same time weren't we saying the same thing about Lorde in 2013? Idk I mean she kind of annoys me as a person (I can't tell if she's just full of herself or is actually just an idiot) but I don't think this is like some elaborate scheme to rip off every move Lana has ever made. I think Lana hit/created a niche with her musical style/imagery and I think other artists are probably inspired by that and want to create in that niche as well. People are bringing up Melanie Martinez a lot on here and form what I've heard of her recent stuff isn't she making like the exact same "Indie girl with raspy voice over slow, heavy beats" thing that Halsey is doing? I think its just artists creating in a genre. Music made in the same genre is bound to have some similarities, otherwise it wouldn't be in the same genre.

ASCAP listing for the Major Lazer collab if anyone cares
-
I mean I guess thats rude in her attitude/wording but like you have to give her some leeway, as she's like constantly hounded and harassed by stans of those boy bands who are constantly belittling her work to fake relationships their fans make up. I mean I'm a big proponent of let the music speak for itself so maybe I'm being hypocritical but like I can't help but feel like I'd be pretty pissed if people tried to make my life work into who they (speculate) I'm romantically involved with.
-
Right here! You're welcome!
-
Theres a difference but I still don't understand what the problem is? Like if she covered the song would people have been offended? The artist clearly consented to the sample and probably got production credits so what is the issue here? Like it's fine to dislike her and her music but like don't act like this isn't a common practice (Charli XCX did a whole mixtape like this. Rihanna has had numerous singles doing this, Run the World by Beyonce heavily sampled Pon De Floor by Major Lazer)
-
Lmao you don't have to define a sample, I know what it is. Literally every song you hear on the radio has some kind of sample whether you can pick up on it or not. Theres also a lot of music that isn't so subtle with samples (Azealia Banks' BWET was literally just an album of rapping over beats dance producers had already put out). Doing that that doesn't diminish the quality of the music and clearly the sample was cleared meaning the original artist didn't have a problem with it being used. I just don't understand when people get so wound up by the term "sample" as if its a bad thing and every artist doesn't do it.
-
No shade because I don't particularly like Halsey as a person but I do have to mention that y'all need to remember that you're bringing up samples as a negative on a Lana Del Rey forum as if Born to Die (and most of Emile Haynie's production work) isn't sample driven.............
-
Didn't someone else from this forum leak the newer version of Machines that day too?
-
Did you listen to her Look Like You Love It - EP? Thats her best work
-
Thats not what I'm saying. I hear Charli but I hear another vocal layer that doesn't sound like her/pitched. Also wasn't she working on a collab with one if those PC music girls?
-
I'm having no luck finding it. Do you know if it was in a video of a whole set or its own video? Just trying to find it again
-
Is Girls Night Out a collab with Hannah Diamond or sone of those PC music girls? It doesn't sound like its just her
