I definitely respect your opinion. Old Money is one of my favorite songs ever, but I really do enjoy Hope’s lyrics in particular due to the references/parallels to Sylvia Plath’s writings, specifically The Bell Jar and her journals. This is coming from someone who is a big fan of Plath’s writings however so my opinion is different from many, but I thought the way she wrote the lyrics were genius (other than the iPad line yikes). -

while I adore Old Money, the lyrics are Lana cliche to the max. Colors? Check. Cars? Check. Hollywood reference? Check. $$$? Check. New York? Check. Queen of x? Check. And that’s just the first verse. Along with this, the song samples What is a Youth by Nino Rota, which I’m sure has had an influence on the lyrics and direction she chose. -

I think holistic picture matters as well (but this is coming from someone whose favorite song is VB, so I might be biased lol). Born to Die and National Anthem both have trip hop elements and somewhat outdated production and sampling to them, and are associated with the glamorous image she was trying to portray at that time (she was literally portraying herself as Jacky O, Marilyn Monroe, and the Queen of Heaven in these videos). They also are much more chamber pop, and the sound is pretty identifiable with the pop of the early 2010’s (Lorde, etc). Venice Bitch on the other hand has quite clear influences of 70s folk rock, which in my opinion is a more adult sound of her music, and this further signified by the 10 minute length. I think maybe it’s just the nostalgic sound of it that makes me think differently of it from other other songs. I guess what I’m really trying to say is that I associate BTD songs with early 2010 pop, while I associate NFR songs with 70s and 90s folk rock and jazz (MAC reminds me HEAVILY of Fade Into You by Mazzy Star, HTD reminds me of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, VB reminds me of the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel, NFR song sounds like a Fiona Apple song, and her other songs just really have a sound that we haven’t heard from her before, so it’s exciting for me). -

How to Disappear is about how life goes on and coping with its negative events. Venice Bitch also reminds me of just aging in general (“and as the summer fades away...back in the garden, were getting high now, because we’re older”). -

also this HAS to hint the album’s coming or at least we have to get some info because she teased the actual title track? I hope?? ( -

This is coming from someone who hasn't really cared about Lana's absence due to my own life being busy. Honestly, Lana is changing. I may just be pulling this out of my ass, but most of the songs she's been teasing/released could really belong in an adult contemporary album (I've always thought Love was the first one to really have this sound), and I think it's because she's getting older. I also think she's trying to distance herself away from the tumblr reputation she's had all these years because other people didn't take her serious because of it. NFR (title song) really reminds me of Fiona Apple's songs, such as Why Try to Change Me Now. The moment the strings start to build up is absolutely breathtaking by the way. -
the Fiona apple jumped out wow

ugh Venice Bitch is amazing. the closing lines are what makes the whole 8 minute interlude worth it. it's such a haunting song and my thirst for NFR is still quenched because of it -
