  1. 1. Lana Del Ray

    2. Lust for Life

    3. Born to Die

    4. Paradise

    5. Ultraviolence

    6. Honeymoon

In my first-listen excitement, I claimed that LFL had stolen the top spot from AKA. Listening to it a second time, I realize that AKA retains the top spot, but LFL hasn't had as much time to sink in. Also, of course, my rankings don't speak for what kind of quality I believe each album has-- UV, for example, is definitely a masterpiece, but it's often too cynical and dark for my taste.

  2. Get Free is an ANTHEM. I don't just love it for the Lizzy-esque vocals, either!

I love the message I get from it: your life, your destiny, your happiness-- these things are in our own hands, and it's up to us to make a commitment to break our old, tired habits; to see through illusions and the lies we tell ourselves; to emerge from the deep, dark black into the bright, wide blue.

To me, it's very much a song about breaking the chains we put on ourselves, and learning to claim life and the good and beautiful things it has to offer us.

It's funny, because it's exactly what I needed to hear right now. I couldn't be struggling worse at the moment, and things finally hit their lowest point yesterday, so Get Free felt exactly like the rebirth and push into the blue that I needed.

  3.

I think Wayamaya is an early concept thing of Kill Kill!
    • Slow beginning with barely an inst, and then after the intro there's a "burst" of Hawaiian, beach sounding, instrumental.
    • We get the choruses/verses after the burst of instrumental, same exact thing happens in Kill Kill.
    • Take a look at how Kill Kill was originally set up in The Ocean, it ends with whispering! Just like how Wayamaya does!
    • and we know Wayamaya was done in 2007 with who? Steven Mertens!!!! We also know the version we have is an edit done by Lana and Steven themselves

I'm really convinced that Wayamaya was (if not a demo) a lay out for Kill Kill!

Neat idea! Even if Lana never consciously linked the two tracks, I think Wayamaya must've unconsciously influenced Kill Kill and drawn from the same well of inspiration

besides, they're both Surf Noir classics, and two of my favorite Lana tracks <3333333

  4. WTWWAWWKD-- it mixes a sweet, old-fashioned sound and themes (almost WWI-ish to me; curls and corsets and such) with a more modern, loose sound ("throw your hands up and get loose", "lean into the fucking youth"). Aside from that, her high vocals are threatening to kill me deader than Honeymoon

(Get Free and TNC are close runner-ups for me, though)

  5. Take the dead out of this heat

I hear "take the dead out of the sea", in reference to the Dead Sea.

I think it fits well with the next line, "and the darkness from the arts".

i.e., take the dead out of the dead sea and the darkness from the dark arts  :legend:

  6. I would be upset about Yosemite, Architecture, Roses Bloom for You, and all the unrealized aspects of this era...

But, instead, I'm finally pumped for this era! I've been so ambivalent about the new music and directions, but I'm really starting to get into it. We've got two really GREAT (imo) songs, and apparently there's plenty more on the record-- I'm practically already crying over vocals on WTWWAWWKD :defeated:

So, keep faith, because everything leaks eventually! I'm super excited about "where we're headed"

  7. I don't think anyone has ever drawn so much of the potential and beauty out of Lana's lyrics, ideas, and concepts as David Kahne. We're lucky to have so many demos and early versions of AKA tracks, because it often show how David elevated and smoothed out tracks that were already incredible. I believe there was a very special relationship between Kahne and Lana that added true magic to their work together.

Mertens and Justin Parker are personal favorites, but I think Kahe wins out in terms of quality.

  8. She just did a livestream and mentioned that although she hasn't put out her first album yet, she's headed to the studio and is working on her second one :toofunny:

(She also asked "are we even going to NC?" and completely forgot that she was coming here on tour :hooker:)

  9. Yeah! I tried to also... I don't know anyone who is in Japan ):

Pretty sure the good sis @SwayTokyo is, but I don't think he's ever mentioned being a Kali fan :toofunny:

  10. The video is incredible :defeated:

She's nailing this aesthetic. I'm stanning this era way harder than LFL, honestly. She's slowly eclipsing Lana for me, in terms of how excited I am for the directions she's going in.

And she's playing a venue an hour from where I live in October :defeated: :defeated: :defeated:

Tickets for her show are only gonna be $18 at this place, so even my broke self can afford to see her!!!!! I'm so thrilled :crying:

she's seriously one of my top 3 fav artists, alongside Lana and David Bowie, and Bowie's dead, so
