  1. I usually don't take part in the countless (seriously, countless) survivor games around here, but there was one I hadn't seen yet, but thought might be pretty interesting: a survivor game for all of Lana's home-recorded songs, concepts and demos, sometimes called "laptop demos". These are some of her most unique, original, and even strange songs, so I'm interested to see how this plays out.

    The rules are:

    1. Every song starts out with 10 points; subtract a point from one song, and add one point to one song on every turn

    2. Do not take another turn until one other person has taken a turn after you.

Below are a majority of these songs, although I may have missed a few (I'm not including demos of album tracks, with the exception of Methamphetamines, because I feel like it's different enough, and iconic enough in its own right, to be included; and not including Cherry Blossom, because I feel like it's kind of an outlier to these tracks):

    1949 (Demo) - 10

    All Smiles - 10

    Axl Rose Husband - 10

    Baby Blue Love - 10

    Bentley - 10

    Betty Boop Boop - 10

Bollywood Hawaii ("Maha Maha" Demo) - 10

Born Bad Baby ("Kinda Outta Luck" Demo) - 10

    C U L8R Alligator - 10

    Coca Colla - 10

Criminals Run the World - 10

    Crooked Cop - 10

    Cry Me a River - 10

    Dance for Money - 10

    Dangerous Girl (Demo) - 10

    Daytona Meth - 10

    Elvis - 10

    Greenwich - 10

    Hangin' Around - 10

    Heartshaped Chevrolet - 10

    Hollywood Movie - 10

    I Was in a Bad Way - 10

    Joshy & I - 10

Living Without You ("TV in Black & White" Demo) - 10

    Methamphetamines - 10

Midnite Dancer Girlfriend ("Go Go Dancer" Demo) - 10

    Motel 6 (Acapella Demo) - 10

Never Let Me Go (Demo) - 10

    Noir - 10

    Party Girl - 10

Put Your Lips Together - 10

Slow Gin Fizzz ("Motel 6" Acoustic Demo) - 10

    So Legittt - 10

    Super Movie - 10

    White Pontiac Heaven - 10

Your Band is All the Rage - 10

    You're Gonna Love Me - 10

    Have fun! :candy:

  2. Maybe I'm in the minority with this opinion, but this show wasn't really my thing  :(

Lana looked gorgeous, but in my opinion, she seemed distracted/bored with the material, and didn't seem as warm and open as she has lately. I'm sure the mic problems weren't helping at all, but I am just a little bit underwhelmed.

    :crossed:

  3. The only thing that somehow bothers me is that motorbike at the beginning of the song. Can someone explain it to me, or is it just randomly there??

I wanna say it's a little nod to the Shangri-Las/girl group vibe she's going for-- the Shangri-Las' famous hit "Leader of the Pack" is about a girl's motorcyclist boyfriend who dies in a crash. Plus, she semi-references the Angels' hit "My Boyfriend's Back" in the lyrics. :)

  4. I absolutely loved it-- to me, this perfectly embodies Lana's concept of "retro sensibility, with a futuristic flair." Both the more literal callbacks (Lana's outfit, the TV performance-esque setup at the beginning, plus backup dancers) and the more subtle (the sweetness and simplicity, the peace sign imagery) really hearken back to the sixties, while keeping a grip on Lana's current message of hope and stability in today's world.

I also appreciated the connecting sequence to Love-- my theory, like others that've posted here, is that the Love video is what's taking place in her mind as she's performing in the LFL video, ostensibly for TV. I think she and Abel represent almost god-like characters (I don't feel that they're dead, necessarily), and their jump off the sign is not suicide, but descending "down to Earth" to bring their message to the youth of America. It's almost a Ziggy Stardust-type setup, imo-- an alien/supernatural singer comes to Earth to spread a message of peace and love to a troubled and receptive group of young people. I really like the concept, and I'm enjoying seeing how the various themes Lana's presented thus far (1960s, witchcraft, peace/love, space) are tying together.

All in all, I think it's a very lovely treatment, and it's really made me appreciate the song and era more. I'm finally, officially excited for what's to come!

(also, I think it's too common for people today to claim things are "cringey" just because they're whimsical, silly, or fun-- you're welcome to your opinion, but I find little touches like the ribbon boat to be really cute. There's nothing wrong with having a little bit of wonder, and nothing wrong with Lana doing something lighthearted and sweet, even if it borders on childish, imo. We could all use some lightening up, I think :kiss3:)

  5. I've tried looking for ages and can't find a thing. No one else has found it either  :deadbanana:

I just thought-- could anyone get in touch with Kali and ask her? It's kind of trivial, but :toofunny: I don't know how easy it is to get through to her.

  6. Does anyone know what song Kali samples in "Dream"? The line sampled is "what do you do when you find your life is a dream?" but searching those lyrics only brings me back to "Dream". I don't think it's Kali singing, it has to be from another song.

Also, @@BLURRYFACE, definitely listen to the Por Vida EP! In my opinion, there's not a single filler/weak song. "Lottery" is the one that got me hooked. :) It's a good time to become a fan, as her debut album is on its way! :yesnod:

  7. I made a video!

I love this! It was so strange to hear the original samples, since I'm so accustomed to hearing them in the context of Lana's songs-- especially the Rick James sample, as it's practically the backbone of BtD  :D

Also, is David Bowie's "Breaking Glass" sampled in "Oooh Baby"? I remember hearing that mentioned, but couldn't ascertain if it was definite or not.

  8.

i'm never gonna think about this hellshow ever again after this elimination

like... i am one of those stans but i just loved her so much and i'm mad at HER like why didn't you try harder you could've gotten this

    girl

she deserved top 3, no tea no shade no mask

  9. Flaunt is the shoot I always knew I needed, but didn't expect Lana to deliver. She'll be hard-pressed to ever top such a perfect melding of present-day Lana and the past's Lizzy Grant, in my opinion.

In other words, the Flaunt shoot looked like a result of Lizzy's Myspace crawling from its grave, tapping Lana on the shoulder, and reminding her that Lizzy Grant never really died and is always going to be a part of her :candy:

  10. In my opinion, Prisoner and Lust for Life are both good, solid tracks. Stargirl, however, is so unprecedented in Lana's catalog-- the energy and vibe it gives off are so otherworldly and so unlike the things she's done before, and I think that's due to the Weeknd's touch on it.

I hail it as one of my favorite Lana songs and a completely transcendental minute and some change. Breathtaking x
