LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
ednafrau replied to Sitar's topic in Lana Thoughts
YES! it really does. her 3 great loves, each represented by one of the songs. I agree: BTD-Jimmy / VG-Mike / Blue Jeans-K. Sitar: isn't it awesome how - even though lana can be vague and dodgy - she has given us good clues? -
i meant that (fantasizing) maybe jimmy thought of the riff when lana was writing her song, or contributed that intro (this is assuming they were together in that time), and thus, he felt free to re-use it in "saints" just pure speculation, based on the fact that the opening riff is identical to lizzy's song.

LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
ednafrau replied to Sitar's topic in Lana Thoughts
hey! this is the place for some relationship info (and speculation) i posted on the LANA SLEUTHING thread, so i'm copying it here: (...) if the ex-boyfriend(s) knew her 5 years ago, it would've been 2007 and i speculated it could be jimmy gnecco or reeve carney, but i didn't think of arthur lynn, her guitarist in "lizzy and the phenomena"! she *allegedly* had a fling with him, but who knows? still, i hope it's jimmy they talked to now, he's never explicitly referred to lizzy/lana, and we have no photos of them together, but when i heard his song "saints" (written for jeff buckley ♥) that he performed live in 2011 with reeve, and the intro *was* "little girls/put me in a movie" that's a confirmation of sorts to me. maybe he inspired that riff and loved it and thought, "hell, i wanna use it"? along with lizzy's posting of "yayo" on his facebook wall way back when, dedicated to he of the blue ink snake tatoo, and the songs she refers to him by name, well...it's proof enough for me that they were together THERE'S MORE INFO, like the (quite telling) link to arthur's blog by evilentity and the much awaited screenshot of lizzy's post of "yayo" on jimmy gnecco's facebook back in 2009 by trailerparkdoll in the LANA SLEUTHING thread. sitar, you can copy that and all the relevant new details over here, right? all hail the nancy drews and sherlocks of the forum! -
sitar, it's a fragment of this early 2010 lizzy interview with blurt magazine: you can find it here: http://blurt-online.com/features/view/1074/ now, what i can't find is LANALYSIS...where is the thread located?? i seem to have lost it

trailerparkdarling, you are a god!!! the diety of online sleuthing! i had seen that same image when it hadn't yet been deleted and also thought, how lovely she had jim and pam as her profile pic! your boyfriend is ♥ i'm so glad you found it (see, sitar, we weren't crazy!) now i see why lizzy said the he was the worst she'd ever seen: jimmy really was mean! i mean, to get posted such a beautiful song, inspired by and dedicated to you, and not even give it a thumbs up?? that is COLD!

one more little thing before i (finally) go to sleep: May Jailer was born Elizabeth Grant in New York City and grew up in Lake Placid, New York. When she was 14, she attended Kent School, a boarding school in Connecticut. She has Scottish ancestry, and is the daughter of domain investor Rob Grant, who supported her in her early career as a singer. At age 18, her uncle taught her how to play guitar, beginning with basic chords: “It was G, C, A, D minor, A minor and some diminished chord as well. Some trick, some shortcut,” May recalled. “I realized I could probably write a million songs with those six chords, so I moved to New York and I took a couple of years to just write whatever I wanted. ” She began performing in clubs while living in the city. i loved the last part on her guitar beginnings (those are the first chords i learned as well!!) and had never read this before! found it searching the may jailer tag on tumblr http://ldrakalizzygr...ant-in-new-york

me too! like i said above, if the ex-boyfriend(s) knew her 5 years ago, it would've been 2007 and i speculated it could be jimmy gnecco or reeve carney, but i didn't think of arthur lynn, her guitarist in "lizzy and the phenomena"! she *allegedly* had a fling with him, but who knows? still, i hope it's jimmy they talked to now, he's never explicitly referred to lizzy/lana, and we have no photos of them together, but when i heard his song "saints" (written for jeff buckley ♥) that he performed live in 2011 with reeve, and the intro *was* "little girls/put me in a movie" that's a confirmation of sorts to me. maybe he inspired that riff and loved it and thought, "hell, i wanna use it"? along with lizzy's posting of "yayo" on his facebook wall way back when, dedicated to he of the blue ink snake tatoo, and the songs she refers to him by name, well...it's proof enough for me that they were together P.S. sitar, should this be in LANALYSIS?

i always loved that interview here's something i re-read recently that sheds some light on what really went down behind lana's departure from 5 points records and the way the new management (it's obvs he's talking about ben) un-did her deal with them and were adamant to take LDRAKALG off the (virtual) shelves: http://www.mtvhive.c...cords-interview (thanks to your link, trailerparkdarling, we know that david nichtern was not only head of the label but also one of america's foremost buddhist meditation teachers!) also, since i haven't seen it posted here, a 2010 interview with one of the local adirondacks papers: http://www.adirondac...1.html?nav=5050 (evidence that her dad did help her, if not financially, to market the album - and i don't think there's anything wrong with that, he's a fan of what his daughter does and he supports her.)
-
that is exactly what i thought! damn these dudes (or dudettes, cuz the spin interviewer is jessica hopper) for not including some of the most interesting parts (for us *lanalyzers*) of her history in the final article! i always considered it weird that no one asks her about her past loves in a more direct way (especially because a couple of them are kind of famous). these little extra bits show that they have asked her and that she actually gave up the names, so they were contacted and actually answered questions and commented on her, on the record! why do they not publish these things? boo!!! it would save us so much time and energy spent on sleuthing, wouldn't it? imagine:100% facts and no more (or at least less) speculation!
-
awesome little facts! i want to know who the ex-boyfriends were, ha! if they met her "5 years ago" from 2012, that would make it 2007, so...did they talk to jimmy gnecco? or reeve carney? was the cigarette-burned A&R van wilson? o_O (EDIT: re-read and no, it's probably her current one.) the spin interviewer left out the best bits, imo!

that's the msypace post i'd read on archive.org that i'd referred to when i talked about wanting "ruby tuesday"! and then some people were like "it's not a song/it doesn't exist"! thanks darling for screencapping it

Lana Del Rey performs with Bobby Womack at Le Grand Journal
ednafrau replied to TrailerParkDarling's topic in Latest News
loved this performance! what an amazing triad of artists - all collaborations should sound this good ♥ you know i can't catch what she she was surprised by either...did anyone else? -
good catch! it's a possibility - especially when you take into account that she originally spelled her name Lana del RAY !!
-
poor lana!

yes!!! you know, the other day i was going to say i could totally see you with devendra, but i assumed you might not have been aware of who he was! i should have known! he played here in buenos aires in 2006 (for the "cripple crow" tour) and after the show, he just walked off stage and into the crowd, naturally, saying hi to people that came up to him, chatting and drinking beer. he was so warm and open and accesible that i mustered the courage to go up to him (he was so charismatic and awesome that even guys were fangirling! ^_^)...he was truly adorable! i told him how much i loved his music (how original! :/) and he hugged and kissed me (he smelled sooo good!) and when i asked him if it was OK to take a picture (which was an embarassing request in that context, cuz he was so effortless and acting *his kind of* normal), he said, "claro que sí, bella" ("of course, beautiful" - he speaks perfect spanish) in a really sweet way, and he put his arm around my shoulder and i almost died of happiness. to top an unforgettable moment, since the local concert promoters charged so much for tickets, when he found out he was outraged, so he started passing the info through word of mouth - to me, amongst others - that a couple of hours later he would play a free, smaller show at a nearby bar, and he did! i can tell you it was magical ♥ he is a truly magnetic man *sigh* unfortunately, after he shaved his beard, he kind of lost his mojo and his music has suffered, too but i don't lose hope that he'll return to top form - and that you'll get to meet him too, maru! i told you the story so that if you ever bump into him, be your fabulous self and talk to him! sorry, everyone else, for the off topic comment but it is related in how affecting it can be when someone you admire is nice - fingers crossed that we all will get to meet our dear lizzy lana!!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this video I just saw on Tumblr, but I wanted to share it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfDjO_lZG8s I never cease to be amazed at how genuinely kind and sweet Lana is! I think it's something to highlight, especially as the novelty effect of her stardom has probably worn off, but she still keeps that smile and warm heart, with an appreciative attitude and an open, present disposition. I really think she possesses the virtue of compassion, which is sadly so rare nowadays. Not many famous - heck, non-famous! - people are this nice. I had one good encounter and that was with bearded troubadour Devendra Banhart (he was lovely), but most stars are bitches. Disaffected irony is overrated.

CC, for now there's no crystal castles concerts in sight for me...i hope their new tour brings them down to argentina again! deathray, thanks for sharing "wrath of god", i love it!! some info direct from alice and ethan that i read on pitchfork.com: "Oppression is a theme, in general… A lot of bad things have happened to people close to me since II and it's profoundly influenced my writing as I've realized there will never be justice for them," Alice Glass said in a statement. "I didn't think I could lose faith in humanity any more than I already had, but after witnessing some things, it feels like the world is a dystopia where victims don't get justice and corruption prevails. I'm one step away from being a vigilante to protect people and bring justice to the people I love. I've thought about it." "We wanted the new album to sound like a completely different and new experience," said Ethan Kath in a statement. "Any keyboards and pedals used on I or II were traded for different keyboards and pedals so that there would be a new palette of sounds to work with. We wouldn't allow any computers near the studio, everything had to be recorded to tape. We'd limit ourselves to one take because we believe the first take is the rawest expression of an idea." alice is right, and it's a chilling realization. i can't wait to see to how the music on (III) will reflect that, sonically.

LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships

oh my G! i didn't know jimmy and reeve were friends! sure enough, here they are performing together (and jimmy says that reeve's a friend of his): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X-Stu8IXjU and listen to this...hello "little girls"! (!!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbpsSn8sxO8&feature=related still floored at the possibility of "get drunk" being about these two gorgeous and talented guys (good to see they're still amigos!) TrailerParkDarling, just... -
she's also doing well in australia! france and australia (sometimes along with germany) are special places, with an acute sensitivity and appreciation towards beauty (in general and particularly in music - jeff buckley was first celebrated there, too!) regarding my area, here in argentina some people are aware of lana, and i've turned a few onto her, including my mom (!), but irl i don't know any true fans most adored "video games", but i have to say that those i showed her music to, it had to be with no visuals, because when they saw her image in videos they were immediately prejudiced :/ people can be so stupid sometimes, can't they? to miss out on a wonderful artist because she altered her name and look...it really is a pity. as many of you know, i wish lana had never had any work done (because it is notorious that something isn't natural about her face, especially in the "blue velvet" video) but i never forget what's important: the amazing music and the complex and wonderful singer-songwriter who makes it! thus, i will crusade on and try to spread the word. lana's worth sharing ♥

might it not be the song she did with mando diao?
