Valentino 884 Posted February 15, 2015 Put Me In A Movie is about the plot of Lolita ._. Everything that references the film industry is about Clare Quilty and how he attempted to get Dolores to film child pornography. "If he likes me, takes me home." Quilty liked Dolores, so he stole her from the hospital when Humbert was gone. "Come on you know you like little girls." Self explanatory, "You can be my daddy." References how Dolores never had a real father, so it could either be an "invite" for either Humbert or Quilty. "He didn't know he'd have this much fun." Analysis is quite open. Could refer to a real life relation of Del Rey's, could refer to Humbert but probably not referring to Quilty as ultimately he kicked her out when she didn't do as he said. "You're my little Sparkle Jump Rope Queen." Obviously just referring to Del Rey. She could possibly be putting herself in Dolores' place. "You know I can't make it on my own." Refers to how Humbert would blackmail Dolores. If she ever left him, he would be jailed and she would be take into care and "lose all of her possessions". She didn't have a mother to go home to and couldn't survive by herself. "Put Me In A Movie." Again, refers to the child pornography that Dolores was asked to do by Quilty earlier in the novel. Another point is that it is one of Del Rey's, if not her overall favourite book - she writes a lot of songs about Lolita so it's very much possible that what was just stated was quite true. It's open to debate but I doubt it is about her own experiences to some extent. That's an interesting point, and it does sound like a real parallel. I haven't read Lolita (yet) so undoubtedly I miss out on a lot of the references like "light of my life, fire of my loins." Nevertheless, I think Lana's lyrics are a lot of mixture between reality and fantasy. Little Girls is from the point of view of the little girl, who is asking this guy to put her in 'a movie.' She is actively seducing this guy with her sly insinuations 'come on you know you like little girls' and 'you can be my daddy.' From what your post says, it seems that Dolores was asked to do this child pornography and didn't want to do it. Maybe it's an inversion - Dolores begging a man to put her in a movie. Considering Lana's references to sleeping with guys in the industry (probably not for favors, imo, but she's talked about it enough for it to be worth noting), I don't think Little Girls is just a retelling of Lolita. It could be her drawing from multiple sources, mixing something she or someone else experienced with one of her favorite books. In one interview she says that the verses are "based in reality" and the chorus is "fantasy." Now, she says a lot of contradictory stuff, but she said this about both Video Games and West Coast on two separate occasions, so maybe there's something to it.
Divisive Princess 3,754 Posted February 18, 2015 I don't love Francesco, but he's the most glamorous and they make a good looking couple. I was sad when they fought at LAX. But yesterday they were having a blast at LAX, so I can rest easy for now. wait...what? When? How? Why?

BabyTonight 77 Posted February 24, 2015 I'm curious - Why do you think Put Me In A Movie is about Jimmy? That song doesn't really sound like a relationship, either. It's exchanging sex for favors. Maybe it's about the "handsome record executive" she made out with... or a reference to "sleeping with the boss doesn't get you anywhere nowadays. " And it's not shady because what he said was true; people were misinterpreting it for whatever reason. Or do you think there's reason to believe he IS trying to say he met Lana there for the first time and never before? I remember someone saying Put Me In A Movie was about that older man she was seeing... Forgot his name, I can't remember. But the dates weren't cohesive to this. Then I remember someone suggested it was about Jimmy because he was relatively "older" than Lana at the time and that was her way of tying her relationship into a Lolita-esque fantasy. Also, there's a video of Jimmy performing live with the almost exact same instrumental as Put Me In A Movie, they are almost the same. So I believe this theory on the song more than the others. This song would make more sense to me if the first theory was correct. People were speculating that this song was about that older guy I mentioned who lent her clips or whatever, because he was a small time filmmaker or some jazz like that. And this was her song to him to "put her in a movie" lolol but like I said the dates weren't cohesive. And about the Jimmy post, at first I thought he was trying to fabricate it because of the claims that he abused her. So "We met in Jan. 2014" was kinda his way of saying "I could never have hit her when I only met her this past year" ... I mean regardless I still think he has a funny choice of words but we all still are aware that had a relationship and what not whether he was trying to hide that or not.

It's the same chord progression. It is striking for us as Lana fans, especially since we know Lana and Jimmy (and Reeve, with whom he was performing) have some kind of history, but I don't think two chords repeated is really enough to peg this as anything other than a coincidence. I've definitely heard it before in other songs as well; if I can remember names, I'll post here. How old would Jimmy and Lana have been when they met/"dated" (I put it in quotes because it's fuzzy as to whether it happened or not)? I know he was older than her, but I don't know during what time period they hung around or anything of the sort. I think Barrie is the first confirmed relationship we know of where she's dating a younger man, interestingly enough.

So she definitely met and had whatever relationship she had with Jimmy. And I don't think it's a coincidence tbh! She loves to tie her inside jokes and pet names and etc from relationships into her songs. It doesn't surprise me if she purposely used a similar sound for a song that a musician she was dating had. Also to point out Jimmy was 36 in 2010! So I think it makes sense. I know that age gap is probably not a big deal, but I know for someone who's kind of fascinated of the fantasy of being with someone older you try to tie it into any different age gap. Even just by a couple years, I definitely do this and Lana probably does too. Since we know how she is.

That's what I'm trying to say while providing evidence lolol I definitely think it's about Jimmy, however their relationship seems so peculiar when you listen to You're Gonna Love Me Rob I am.... electriclavender 143 Posted February 28, 2015 Her and Barrie were really cute but I think they made each other kind of miserable or fed off each others misery. He does seem like a very depressed person and I can imagine that was hard for Lana to deal with. I don't buy that Lanz and Jimmy met for the first time in 2014 like he's trying to insinuate, there is too much that ties them together. But then again its all only on Lana's part, maybe she was just an obsessed fan and wrote about him a lot like some people think.

The Reeve Carney thing is much more believable as there's is proof that they knew each other/had a relationship because of the amount of pictures they're in together and the fact he's shown in a Gramma video and so on. (I would put it the other way round, Reeve was the one she was in a relationship with a Jimmy was his best who she was sleeping with on the sly like in Get Drunk). But with Jimmy there is no actual proof apart from song he's mentioned in. I'm not stating any of this as fact, again its purely speculation.

Lol I always had thought she dated Jimmy and slept with Revvee, tbh. And I think I still believe that I mean, they Tweeted each other back in '11 or something and I doubt they'd be on good terms if she slept with Jimmy while still invested in a relationship w Revvee, but it seems like Jimmy is still on good terms with Lana after that so I guess you could say it's a fucked up holiday. I really do believe her and Jimmy had a relationship. For whatever reasons, fans need so much "evidence" to agree to that but I feel like the songs speak for themselves and I doubt she'd write such deeply invested songs to guys she never dated or had relationships with. Also, do you think Jim hit her tbh?

annedauphine 35,812 Posted March 29, 2015 I only want Lana's happiness but when I look at pictures of her and Barrie and when I watch/hear Summer Wine I can't help to think that they're a match made in heaven, even though they probably separated for the best. I hope she's happy with Francesco!
