I start.

Lana Del Rey's debut album is probably the most exquisite thing she's ever done-- a great mixture of different genres combined with sweet vocals and surrealist lyrics. 88/100.

Excuse me, where's the masterpiece aka gift from the heavens aka Sirens???

LDRAKALG is one flawless album (most songs are awesome, the only 'disappointing' one being brite lights) and she did that all without people telling what she should write, etc. 10/10

So we only have to write about AKA here? You say rate Lana's albums but then the OP only talks about that one...?

We're currently reviewing/rating Lana Del Ray. We'll rate Born to Die next week :)

Exceptional work from Miss Del Rey, as expected. ★★★★☆

I'd say this was an era when Lana Del Rey was experimenting with her vocal abilities, seeking her strengths. Lana Del Ray was not as strong as Born To Die, though it's arguably stronger than Ultraviolence. However, the recording of "Yayo" was at its best on this record. It was indeed a fabulous debut. Yet there are a few qualities missing. There is a lot of controversy upon the spelling of "Ray" as Miss Del Rey's current stage name is spelt with an e. Even though that is not important, I believe the artist received a fair bit of unnecessary negative criticism, like she wasn't already receiving enough. It is a great shame that a lovely piece of work like this album was removed from sales due to lack of popularity and a new start in which Del Rey sought. But thanks to the Internet, this lovely album is still accessible to those who wish to listen to it. The most spectacular feature of this record--and also the most disappointing, regarding it being removed from stores--is that all the songs were solely written by the songstress herself! Very rarely you get this and I find it truly remarkable. This is what gives her debut a goddess-like glow, almost setting a role modelling example how other records should be. You can most definitely see Del Rey's talent, not only in her gorgeous voice, but her striking songwriting skills.

That sounds so fucking professional... I would give it a five buuut I want to be professional.

AKA is a collection of mostly good songs, and it contains the signature Lana original: Yayo. Kill Kill and Yayo have the best production from the album, the instrumentals really compliment the atmosphere the whole album tries to create. About half of the songs are super, some songs are average (Raise me up, Jump, For K Part 2). Also can we talk about what a huge downgrade the final version is from the demo when it comes to For K Part 2? I think that Lana definitely grew a lot as an artist after recording this album, as all of her other albums are far better than this one.

I KNEW you were going to post this lmaooo

And you still ignored sis Jailer  :judgingu:  :eartha2:

Even if Sirens was not released it deserves to be here. It's so personal and very different from her other records. Find My Own Way (Move) slays all of BTD lyric-wise for example :oprah:

Where are all little jailers at? Rebel!

*goes out with a bang*

:toofunny:

No lies were told though

:fabcat:

You have to give it a number too!

Okay, then 60/100

It's good, but all her other albums are better

And yes, that includes the legendary Sirens/From the end/Young like me (I'm with you @ :legend: )

Lana Del Ray is a beautiful, dark album that takes the listener to a totally different world. Lyrically it's probably her strongest album and the production, even though it lacks refinement, is some of her most interesting. The best tracks on the album are in opinion Mermaid Motel, For K Part 2, Gramma, Kill Kill and Raise Me Up, but each track has it's strengths. 9/10

I give Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant a 6.5/10. I listened to it after discovering that unreleased Lana songs were a thing and that she had this album before Born to Die. I was mostly impressed. It's quirky, which made me like most of it. I never skip Queen of the Gas Station when shuffling through my library

Lana Del Ray is almost a perfect album. The production is strong and varied through every track. The lyrics are thematically a lot different than her current style, which can serve as a nice break every now and then. Overall, I'd rate it a 95/100.

(I tried to sound 'professional' I hope this doesn't come off as pretentious lol I tried to make it seem like I knew what I was talking about)

As a debut album, Lana Del Ray is quite an astonishing accomplishment. An artist's first album usually reflects its creator's identity crisis through a glaring inconsistency, but LDR is incredibly coherent and thought-out. Del Rey had meticulously crafted the sound and imagery of her project. The lyrics, reflecting those from later works, both embody her own personal struggles and utilize a vintage, melodramatic aesthetic to convey these emotions. The album combines a multitude of diverse genres, but rarely feels inconsistent, thanks to the artistry of Del Rey and her producer, David Kahne. The minor missteps are found in tracks that try a bit too hard to sound innovative, particularly in the partly-spoken track, Brite Lites. Fortunately, though, the blips are fleeting moments of experimentation amidst a larger experience and geniously-crafted atmosphere that gradually takes hold of its listener. Most importantly, however, is the ingenuity of this album that solidifies the originality and creativity of an artist, who is far too often misconstrued as being manufactured.

90/100

Recommended listens: Kill Kill, Yayo, Pawn Shop Blues, Oh Say Can You See
