that's what I absolutely love about this record, there's so many cross references between songs like this

Fuck yes, it's beautiful. I'm a sucker for Lana's narratives. The development as the album progresses is amazing- the dynamics and everything.

Groupie Love -
"My babe made me sing to a fire escape

City girl but she grew up in the tri-state"

God Bless America -

"I hear the sweetest melodies
On the fire escapes of the city"

13 Beaches -

"And I still get lonely"

God Bless America -

"Even when I'm alone

I'm not lonely
You better believe nobody could make me feel lonely"

There’s a story that goes with the song, where Del Rey calls up Lennon to tell him that she thought his part was perfect, and he says that he’s so happy because no one’s ever said that to him before. He’s John Lennon’s son, he’s lived his entire life in his father’s shadow, and Lana Del Rey has just given him his greatest ever compliment. There’s a tragedy in that, don’t you think?

“I told him, ‘I’m the one who’s honoured, I’m the lucky one; so I just want you to remember that, Sean, I’m singing with you.’”

What a sweetheart!!

why im crying in club right now. I love this woman

My fav user review of lfl:

Shi*-Lana. This trash is like 'Born To Die' 4.0 I won't say that it lacks much, it lacks EVERYTHING. The disc is honeymoon from beginning to the end. Don't reinvents, keep talking about sugar daddys and drugs. Stop right there Fa*s. Don't you see it's the same Malibu Stacy but no hat?

Edit: He gave witness a 10 wtf

Where do you feel this album fits into Lana’s catalog overall?

Lana is a career artist, a defining artist of her generation. I see her as a link on the chain along with Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, and all the great once in a lifetime singer/songwriters. She’s created her own language and her own genre. She’s always inspired and actively creating her body of work. This album is her next offering.

This sounded eerily like Graham ctfu

I love how all of Lana's songs connect in some way or another- even if it's inadvertent at times.

This Is What Makes Us Girls -

"Baby's table dancing at the local dive"

Tomorrow Never Came -

""Hey, whatcha doing?" Not a lot

Shaking and moving at my local spot"

---

Cherry -

"My cherries and wine"

Tomorrow Never Came -

"Just swallow some wine"

---

White Mustang -

"Packing all my things for the summer

Lying on my bed, it's a bummer"

Summer Bummer -

"Hip hop in the summer

Don't be a bummer, babe"

---

Video Games -

"They say that the world was built for two

Only worth living if somebody is loving you

Baby, now you do"

Get Free -

"I never really noticed that I had to decide

To play someone's game or live my own life

And now I do"

---

Ride -

"I've got a war in my mind

So I just ride"

Get Free -

"Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind

I want to get off, but I keep riding the ride"

---

Gods & Monsters -

"Fame, liquor, love--

Like a groupie incognito...

You tell me life isn't that hard"

Groupie Love -

"Key lime and perfume and festivals--

Taking our dreams, turning them into things

It's like magic, babe, isn't life wonderful?"

---

Fucked My Way Up To The Top -

"Lay me down tonight in my linen and curls

Lay me down tonight in my diamonds and pearls"

When The World Was At War, We Kept Dancing -

"Girls, don't forget your curls

Girls, don't forget your pearls"

---

Video Game -

"This is my idea of fun

Playing video games"

Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems -

"It's more than just a video game"

---

Groupie Love -

"My babe made me sing to a fire escape

City girl but she grew up in the tri-state"

God Bless America -

"I hear the sweetest melodies

On the fire escapes of the city"

---

13 Beaches -

"And I still get lonely"

God Bless America -

"Even when I'm alone

I'm not lonely

You better believe nobody could make me feel lonely"

---

Heroin -

"I hope that I come back one day

To tell you that I really changed, baby

Makes me feel like I can change all of my evil ways and shit"

Change -

"Change is a powerful thing, people are powerful beings

Change is a powerful thing, I feel it coming in me"

Awesome thing is there's hundreds more than just the ones I listed above.

Just got done through first listen and was really impressed. Lyrically this is so so solid. Like shockingly so  :O New themes, new perspectives. Same unnecessary fuzzy vocal filter where it isn't needed.

Immediate standouts are 13 Beaches, Cherry, Beautiful People, When The World Was At War, G.B.A. and Get Free.

Tomorrow Never Came is such a great story, not sure how I feel about Shawn Lemon, however not as highpitched as i'd expected.

Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems are like her best lyrics ever.

The pre-chorus of When The World Was At War... is one of the best moments on any Lana song. So sick

Cherry is so fun. What Freak tried to be. Her voice in bridge is so cute and playful.

I think this album has so much more personality than Honeymoon, apparent straight away.

"It's 2011, and we should all be aware of exactly how fast technology is developing" - Lana Del Rey

it'd better be on the deluxe version released (by Eclipse?!) someday in the future along with Roses Bloom For You, BAR (well-mixed ver.) and Yosemite.  :defeated:

Gorl, before I need #AKAMertens  :hooker:

First time I don't like a Lana Del Rey album :( I wanted to, but I can't. This type of music is not really my style, I can't really enjoy this as an album. Love, Groupie Love and Get Free are the best ones, though, and I don't necessarily dislike the songs, but they are not that great.

I will probably listen to it more times, I hope it grows in me. UV and Honeymoon were my favorite albums, I loved so much the path Lana was taking. I expected this album to be different, but most of these songs lack something to give me that Lana Del Rey feeling :(

We both know that it's not fashionable to love me...
