I HATED Carmen until I heard the Paradise tour version. It never seemed fully formed to me until then.

I'm a little late, but I just wanted to say that I totally agree with what you're saying. In that verse, I think she's writing from the perspective of putting all of her friends and their issues under the microscope. Assuming everyone she knew at that school (and I don't know much about the school) was, like her, sent there for substance abuse, eating disorders, etc., the verse makes perfect sense in that context. On the other hand, I think it could easily be misconstrued.

I have found myself thinking about this quite often... but I always come to the same conclusion. Some might say it's a little dramatic and over-the-top for a funeral, but I like the chamber sound it has, and especially its lyrics! I think this is a wonderful message to send out at a funeral, since funerals aren't necessarily an event of joy. "You will never ever be forgotten by me in the procession of the mighty storm" - isn't it nice to have this sung at a funeral? I think it applies to both parties: the one who's passed and the attendees.
"Carry"
Love hold my hand
Help me see with the dawn
that those that have left
are not gone
But they carry on
as stars looking down
as Nature's Sons
and Daughters of the Heavens
You will not ever be forgotten by me
In the precession of the mighty stars
your name is sung and tattooed now on my heart
here I will carry, carry, carry you
Forever
You have touched my life
so that now cathedrals of sound are singing
are singing
The waves have come to walk with you
to where you will live in the Land of Youth
Land of Youth
You will not ever be forgotten by me
In the precession of the mighty stars
your name is sung and tattooed now on my heart
here I will carry, carry, carry you
here I will carry, carry, carry you forever

Oh wow, for Lana I'd go for a not-that-depressing option..."Angels Forever, Forever Angels" could work, for obvious reasons.
Otherwise I love this song and it's a multi-purpose wedding/funeral song
Just gonna drop it here w/o listening because I can only listen to it like every few months without having an existential panic attack. Just...the fucking lyrics get me: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/catpower/colorsandthekids.html

I didn't come to appreciate it until I saw it as a sort of live album! I think a lot of the songs from The Red Shoes really benefited from the live drums. Plus, that re-recording of Moments of Pleasure is absolutely devastating! The coolest thing for me about 50 Words For Snow was hearing how well her son could sing and how much he sounds like her. He's got such a beautiful voice!

I like it, but I was a bit disappointed at first, when I found out it was only a re-recording and restructuring of old songs... I was a bit like, 'what's the point?'.
I absolutely love the collab with Stephen Fry in '50 Words for Snow' (song)... And I mostly like them, tbh.
And yeah, it's unbelievable... And she's such a genuinely strange person, so reserved and eccentric. I love that aspect of hers.
