LDR5 Pre-Pre-Release Thread - Take 2
Flipflopfan replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
The leaked song is generic Lana (theme, lyricys, melody). I have to say that is boring (which is now expected from a Lana-Nowels colab). The song has absolutely no commercial value so stop the drama, listen to it and buy it when it will be available. YAIL could have been easily on HM in my opinion and LDR 5 it's shaping up to be a HM level commercial flop: my prediction is that the album will struggle to sell 300-350k globally and she will seldom enter in any top 10 chart in the first week. I didn't expected anything commercial from her (she's out of that demographic anyway) but this song is not the quality switch that I expected from her. -
LDR5 Pre-Pre-Release Thread - Take 2

This is shaping up to be an epic fiasco. In my view, the only one to blame is Lana and this is an expected result of her unprofessional approach regarding her career. Her managers have their fault in this but I'm not entirely convinced that they can really do their job with her. She doesn't seem to care and the way that her mangers and label are reacting is clear that they don't care either. She can go forward with this as "planned" anyway because no one is expecting any commercial success with LDR5. Is just infuriating to see someone who had the dumb luck to build a career and a following and to see these botched releases one after another. I would really love to see that Eclipse and Chine Place people prosecuted on this -
LDR5 Pre-Pre-Release Thread - Take 2

Please stop the drama 1. the snippet is not that good. In fact there are much better moments on the boring HM. Maybe this will end up like BB from UV 2. stop calling the feds. because nobody cares besides the hardcore fans and former hardcore fans (me). she has no team besides that cute blonde assistant who is good to help her buy groceries and her sister (who will shot the cover of course). she doesn't take her own career too seriously so everybody just chill and wait for her insta announcement, don't be delusional there will be no "era", she will tease her stuff on social media and she will do some festivas and that's it. 3. the only thing that matters it's the quality of her music (lyrics). as I said the snippet is not promising (after YaB she comes with YaIL I don't see any progress here) -
LDR5 Pre-Pre-Release Thread - Take 2

In my view LDR5 will be the ultimate test if Lana can morph in a true quality artist. She has 0 commercial appeal left, she and her label knows that and even her non-delusional fans know that. Probably, the forthcoming "era" will not have any serious promo and the videos will be in the same halfhearted, amateurish style that she adopted starting with the UV era. BTD+Paradise was a provocative era on all levels: sonically, visually, she had some controversial messages, with a clear pop appeal, UV was a good shot at the quality artist status with a cohesive sound and message (yes UV had a message in my view it was her response to her detractors), but HM was a botched attempt to continue that trend: HM has a boring sound, visuals and there was no message (the lyrical content is forgettable). So LDR5 will be about her capacity to convey a message and put it consistently in a lyrical context and music which any quality artist do. But after following her for 4 years I don't have high hopes of something interesting coming out with LDR5, I think that it will be more like a continuation of the HM era -
It's amazing to see that Lana still has such a dedicated fanbase taking in account how little she has done since the UV era. I don't know if her contract it's up but in my view HM was a pointless album that can be very well defined as a contract filler. I expect her next album to be in the same mold as HM, Lana has a strong esthetic vision but unfortunately little else. She can write 1000 HM songs with Nowels that are pretty and occasionally interesting but they will be easily forgettable and overall boring. She has no commercial power anymore, I predict that she will hardly open in the top ten anywhere in the world and that she will struggle to sell 350k worldwide. She clearly gave up up her pop aspirations, she has a subpar management which is massively scaled down (when Eclipse type of online trolls are leaking your new material...come on!) so I don't expect any promo besides her silly online strategies. I think that she wants to become a quality artist but I don't see that happening and not only because she still has a predominantly negative image in the business in the US but mainly because I don't think that she has the lyrical talent or the live chops necessary to achieve that. But kudos for her fandom because they are the only reason for a lifeline in her fading career
-
I don't think that there is anything that justifies following her anymore. I don't see how she could reinvent herself or do something relevant musically. She has an intriguing voice but that's about it. I clarified for myself that she represented to me some kind of a demented online crush (she got me somehow with her morose attitude and her sexy voice) which is now fading away. All that is left is the neurosis and the bafflement about the time that I spent thinking about a virtual entity because she never become something real to me. I went back to listening classical music as I was before discovering her. Since this is my last post here I recommend to all of you to listen to Bach and his peers and maybe some of you will be embarrassed by the scrobbles you had recently. I wish LDR/E. Grant the best

HM isn't a bad album (it's rather mediocre). I have a feeling that Lana could write 1000 songs like those on HM which underlines her undeniable talent as a songwriter. But she's too relaxed about her career and I'm afraid that she just lost interest in conveying, representing something and keeping the interest around her. I can understand her reasons for winding down her career but is frustrating nonetheless. Not singing live her material from UV and especially HM (some very good songs) is lazy and inexcusable. I really don't see the point for her to come out with another album unless she changes her attitude -

There is a lot of negativity towards her on twitter, it's not late to cancel tho. I thought that she is liked in Mexico but the Spanish "aficionados" are the worst. She doesn't need any BS, her tour so far was sell received in most places. Why is she pushing these festivals tho?! -

I would really love to hear from Lana and her team the reasons behind releasing HM one year after UV without promoting it. HM is "cohesive" only because is slow, monotone and dwells around Lana's main tropes. Ok, I still use some of the songs from HM (MTWBT, AD, HBTB, TBD and HM minus that lyrically awful bridge). The main problem is with Lana's relentless lethargic delivery which is both pointless and jarring listening to through 14 songs. I think that HM had some good ideas and melodies but it was rushed. Released one year after the equally non-commercial UV, carrier-wise it was a pointless move, it just alienated further the GP diminishing even more her commercial potential. HM, like UV, was another release to please the critics and they weren't nasty towards her just bored, in the end it's obvious that she paid too much attention to their opinion. Unfortunately HM isn't the quality masterpiece that we thought that she's capable of (UV it's better lyrically and sonically) and commercially was an undeniable flop. The negative effects of HM will be seen at her next release when she will struggle to sell 350.000-400.000 copies globally and she'll fail to open number 1 or 2 in any market. The only viable route for Lana is to come out with that quality masterpiece some of us are hoping for, she has to improve further her live vocals and stage presence and then she has a shot to stabilize her career as a quality artist (she still has some rabid fans left and some flip-flops like me). -
Today was for the first time since I discovered Lana when I didn't enjoyed any of her songs. Her voice was something that I had to listen periodically, it was like an addiction, but today I had to stop listening to her. It's not the case of an overload because I didn't listen to her in a long time. Maybe that's the beginning of the end of my Lana obsession

Britney is practically just a (good) dancer but she has no voice, this cringey auto-tuned bullshit that she's forcing is unbearable. Lana can't dance but compared to Britney she has a voice of a siren, she is a lyricist and a producer lately so why Lana said that Britney was an inspiration for her? They have nothing in common

Looking back HM is the album that I listened the least. That means that is worse than BTD or UV? Musically I think not, in my view BTD is her worst album quality wise (I cannot connect to the most of the lyrics on BTD and some of them are outright cringe-worthy so I listen only to OTTR nowadays). But I think that HM is her emotionally weakest effort and at a end of the day you want to listen to music that will stir some emotions in your soul. Besides HM and TBD no songs on HM have this emotional quality for me. (It's a pity that she doesn't sing TBD live) -
I don't like when she points the mic towards the audience.

She didn't post anything from Osheaga. She's clearly pissed at something...

Lana looking ravishing in Manhattan with Chuck - August 1st

She doesn't look gorgeous in these pictures. She and her sister look like someone dragged out of their bed and thrown out on the streets. Her casual look is boring and tragic for a long time now but idgf -

I was like that too. I remember her 2014 US tour when she had a lot of negative press and I had several meltdowns. I even lied in the comment section that I was at her concert in Dallas just to counter the extreme negativity of a journalist named Thor (LoL). It was a ridiculous behavior but I couldn't help it. My problem with the writer of the negative article from the Toronto Sun is not that he doesn't have valid points about her show, it's that he was negatively biased from the beginning. I had this feeling about him and I visited his Twitter account where he presented his article with "Sry Lana fans you would not like what I have to say" Really? This is a just a click bait to provoke Lana fans? The article wasn't vicious enough for that and it will be forgotten as soon as it was written. Today I accept some criticism of her live appearances because not everybody who watch her show is a fan who came to worship a goddess. Some people are casual fans or just curious, who maybe will be baffled at her lack of movement, engagement with the audience, monotone delivery, awkward stage presence (like she is apologizing to be there) and some people just cannot accept that she just vanishes for 5-10 minutes to sign autographs and take selfies in the first row. That is the risk to perform at large festivals. But she was lucky so far in the US because there were many Lana fans in Chicago and Montreal. So far so good, her press in the US was mostly positive. -

She has no press in the US practically before the show, no one cares that she's headlining there. It's strange -
Yea she fucked with her face but I doubt that she's having work done every time when some idiot (fan or not) "observes" something strange on her face.

If we are talking about underrated by the GP then OTTR if we are talking about the fandom then is HM (i dislike it myself at first)

Even if I'm greatly disappointed in her live performances I wish her the best and I hope that she will perform, exceptionally, well at Lola. I think that people moved on in the US regarding LDR and she will not be as scrutinized as she was before. But this time around she needs to stand out (in a positive way hopefully) to rekindle the buzz around her because so far nobody really cared about her festival tour. She's unpredictable, so she might come out with some new things, which I highly doubt, but if things will be as they were in Europe her show will be probably evaluated by the media as boring (or as appealing only to her dedicated fans) and people will move on. And that will make the forthcoming LDR5 a tough sell. But if I want to be more realistic about it I have to say that she would be in a better position further down in the lineup because she's in no way headline material for Lola. A more intimate set with an audience comprised mostly of her fans, that would be something optimal for her. Lola will not resemble to Greece, France or Russia where were many Lana fans in the public. Here I think that max. 10% of the audience will be Lana fans and the rest will have to sit through her mumbled, slow set while she's strolling around the stage like she were at some pageant. Her voice is weak for a main festival stage and she's still barely controlling it and she's not interacting with the audience (besides the first line of fans). So I don't expect that her show will have a great reception at Lola, at best it will be similar to her Govball or Glastonbury set. -
In Switzerland she did two gigs and she did an interview. She kind of promoted there! But the sales surge won't last more than 2w. Instead of this festival tour she would have needed an extensive theater/arena tour with a lot of dates in Europe and not only in the countries you mentioned. But for that she should have to learn a lot of new songs to perform live which she clearly is not intending to do. In my opinion this festival tour was another bad decision from her and her management in a point of her career when any bad moves threaten to end her career as a major act. So far this tour didn't do any damage but didn't helped revive her flopping career either. Let's wait for Lola and SF but from what I saw so far I'm not optimistic about her reception there.
-
So far it wasn't a good decision in my opinion because she didn't revived her fanbase in Europe and the media coverage was rather weak. I have the feeling that she choose festivals to not change dramatically her setlist. The only thing that will matter for her career wise in this tour is Lola and SF in the US which will get a fair amount of media coverage but with this level of performance she will be rather ignored or slightly criticized as boring.
-
I blasted her performance in Russia and I wanted to see again that performance in better quality to feel better about her show but I couldn't suffer through her set-list (especially the overdone BTD and Paradise songs) and her boring stage presence. I don't want to post anymore in the actual show threads to not spoil the experience of the forumers who still think that she is a good/watchable performer. In my opinion she's not and I don't have hope that she'll ever improve significantly live. Her latest interview, otherwise incredibly boring and calculated, surprised me regarding one thing: she said that she no longer has stage fright anymore. Strangely I'm kind of disappointed because I always hoped that she refuses live tv shows or performs badly sometimes because she's a pathologically shy performer and not because she's just another bad live singer. I still think that she's full of shit as usual and I'll believe what she said when I will see her again on live television.
