People are allowed to give constructive feedback, the consensus over the last few days has been that we shouldn’t flambait-the comment was in response to a discussion about her songwriting jeez. and yes she has used names but not a whole colony of people -the first rule of writing is to be descriptive with the individuals, it’s always been seen as lazy to just name someone and an activity they’re doing. the biggest reach is regarding the analytical side, I highly doubt it was little more than her recounting a series of events- yes a banister represents support? So? even still her lyrical choices are bland and vague.

I don’t see how anyone can say her writing has improved- hope was the right mix of cheeky modern lines and analysis of herself. change was inward and hopeful. blue banisters is just messy-naming people works if it’s one or two at max people-she gave a list- which is messy for people who don’t stalk her family. Talking about painting a banister blue is just odd and awkward for a beautiful melody-I feel like I’m talking to a deluxe paint specialist. The BLM line in textbook and the narrative is also weirdly mashed together with her dads longing and the marches.

The funniest thing is Blue Banisters is not highly complex either nor is most of lanas output , lanas always been good at imagery to paint a story via blue jeans and marinas good at biting satirical songs like sex yeah

I think the comparisons are silly at this point, though surface level I like that marinas viewpoint is more substantial and meaty, she’s dealing with campy wordplay which she’s always done really well and as @BluebirdXO said I’m loving the retro pop rock vibe, we won’t all like the same stuff or subjects.

How did this go on so long...dd I think we all have opinions I was just rejoicing in the fact that I’m really enjoying marinas music atm which is atypical for me as I usually have the same love for lanas.

There are elements of pop here and there sure but she’s done so many mixed genres like soul, jazz,psych,Americana etc that I just feel the term is redundant and odd for her. I also see pop as a clear genre-what else would I call “thriller” or “baby one more time”
