In case y'all haven't seen this yet – Godless has quite a backstory: Like WOW! That's such a powerful, inspiring example of turning misery into art and eventually getting closure!

Hawaiian Mazes is brilliant, but it's just not quite up there with my favourites from this album (yet). @@Ultra Violet yeah she always has some songs that take quite long to get into... literally one of the last The Altar tracks I learned to appreciate was Mother Earth, and now it's one of my favourites and SUCH a discography highlight!

Start with The Altar, it's easier to get into than Goddess (and III, I'd assume), it's her best album, and it's pretty much all killer, no filler (well one could argue about This Is Not About Us and Haunt, I guess). It's also the album that made me stan her, and you know my taste in music is impeccable.

I'll definitely need some more time to properly form my opinion on this. The only thing I'm sure about is that it's not her best album, but honestly, that's fine. It would be unfair to use The Altar as the benchmark and compare everything else she releases with it. III is a great record, after all. My two main issues as of now: You can almost never clearly hear her vocals, as others have already mentioned. In fact, some of the songs are giving me war flashbacks to Fetty Wap's verse on Gwen Stefani's Asking 4 It LMAO. I know it's an effect used on purpose, and sometimes it works really well, but Banks is such a gifted writer, so I would very much love to actually understand what she's saying. It's all a bit too samey, especially in the middle of the record. Now maybe I only feel this way because it's a brand new album, but right now it seems that it lacks sonic diversity a bit. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate that she tried out new things and sounds, but within the album, III just doesn't have that amazing variety that The Altar had (particularly in its first half). I hope that I'll change my opinion on some of these issues once I get to listen to it a few more times and discover new nuances of the album. Everything I've said is based on the two spins I've given the album last night, and I'm at work right now, but I'm already looking forward to playing this a couple more times later today. My early favourites are definitely Gimme, Propaganda, and The Fall. Honourable mentions: Contaminated, Stroke, Godless. Anyway, I am soo happy she is back! And despite the issues I've listed, I do think it's a fantastic album. I liked it enough to order the red vinyl for € 30, I think that says everything lol.

It's become one of my favourites as well, which is funny because I don't speak Portuguese, nor am I a particularly big fan of Latin pop. But with this album, it just seems organic and genuine. Like, if you compare the Portuguese/Latin influences on Madame X with what influenced Ray Of Light, in both cases it seems like it just happened all naturally. But yeah, Faz Gostoso definitely screams "hit", so I hope she'll capitalise on that and release it with a nice video.

LWYDTM is NOT a bad song OMG!
  13. I have a bit of a weird request, but maybe somebody can help me... So way back in the day (2014/2015) a DiamondGarden user remastered a couple of Marina's songs to recreate the Die Life project, and uploaded those on Dropbox. Unfortunately they don't have access to those original files anymore, and neither does the uploader of the video (yes, I actually sent them an email lol). So if anyone here happens to have downloaded those tracks and still has them, it would be super kind to share them! <3

I just knew this was going to be a banger based on the title alone, and my expectations were not disappointed. What a song!

Can we talk about this? https://youtu.be/TVV2qGgWB9c 0:40
  17. Oh I totally agree! I just mentioned it because some people seem to find it hard to bring the same amount of respect to this kind of music as to "serious", "deep", "more sophisticated" music.

I find it quite impressive that she actually sings in Portuguese on this album. Also, I cackled when she said that Brazilian Portuguese is completely different than Portugal-Portuguese and that she basically had to relearn everything. Multilingual queen!
  21. A historical document has been discovered on Lanaboards dot com. I am in awe!
  22. Mine would be Do Me, Sweet Spot, Personal Hell, Broken, and Icy (!), but I don't even know in which order. However, the whole album is an absolute pop masterpiece, and I love that unlike Era 1 (*cough* Homework *cough*), this one actually has zero skips. I know it's just "basic" pop music, but I still want to say this is my album of the year so far.

Y'all if you have Amazon Prime, go watch the World of Madame X documentary! A really interesting watch, it provides some context to how the concept of Madame X came to be, how she was inspired by Portuguese culture (and by her travels around the world in general), and of course she talks about every song in specific too for a bit. I already loved the album before, but I like i even more now that I know just how genuine and organic it actually is, so I'd really recommend it!
