I do like Little Boots too! Her last single was fantastic, quite Saint Etienne-esque. Some artists/bands I like a lot: Mylène Farmer - she used to be my favourite female singer for about 20 years (until Lana came along ). Her early clips were epic, dark, mysterious pieces of art. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbXKOmnEKvQ For a bit of noise I fancy Danish duo The Raveonettes: http://vimeo.com/50751476

You're definitely right about that! Mylene's latest musical efforts are quite disappointing... (After "Innamoramento" in 1999 the quality of her music steadily declined imho.)

"First of all, the internet had already been invented when Mylène Farmer began her career." Ah, come on, but not the "normal" world wide web that could be used by millions of people at low cost. No one shared mp3's in the 80's or early 90's . I got my first email address in 1994 and I was the only one around having some sort of online access (using a modem ) It would have been extremely expensive to share a single song back then, let alone an entire album. I'm not so sure there's an easy, direct way to relate the music sales to filesharing - as I said there were several studies about illegal filesharing and their effects on the music business and they couldn't decide on the effects of illegal filesharing (f.ex. http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/EU-Studie-Online-Piraterie-schadet-dem-digitalen-Musikabsatz-nicht-1825271.html). But of course you're right that a lot of people have to be paid in the music business (especially when you're doing a huge tour like Lana's). But 70 $ for a shirt is, well, pretty heavy... I wouldn't pay that much for a shirt. Although it does look really nice. As NamiraWilhelm wrote - if people are willing to pay such prices there will be products offered at that price, especially if you're the only seller.

This is an interesting theory but I doubt you really can draw these conclusions ("piracy" => higher prices for merch). There are several studies who showed that this illegal sharing of music in fact helped artists getting recognition and convinced people to buy the music or go to a concert. So I don't think merch at those big concerts is so expensive because the "poor" megastars would starve otherwise but just to get as much money as possible from the devoted fans. Years before the internet was invented Mylène Farmer f.ex. sold really expensive collector's items to her hardcore fans = to people who want to collect everything ever issued from their idol... (This always appeared to me as a way of almost "ripping of" fans. But on the other hand those guys who bought these collector's stuff were happy, even if they had to pay several 100 bucks for it so no one to blame here maybe.)

My favourite Lana-song is "Ride". I love the lyrics, I think the song has one of the best bridges in musical history (the part from min. 3:40 til end got me totally hooked), the clip is breathtaking and I almost cried when she played the entire version of "Ride" (including the spoken word intro) live. "Cola" would be my 2nd favourite - her coolest sounding track. "She's not me" is 3rd - can't believe such an incredible song was just a demo and never released!

Plastic surgery is stupid and I hope Lana won't do that to pump up her breasts. The lip injections are already too much (for my taste). A natural look rules.

This is one of my favourite Lana tracks! Reminds me of Goldfrapp.

Oh yeah, bring it on, Lana! -

Songs & Musicians That Sound Similar to Lana
CatchTheBreeze replied to Fluorine's topic in Lana Thoughts
I don't know if you guys ever heard of Gemma Ray - I think her music bears some resemblances to Lana (and not because of the "Ray" ). She's pretty cool live too. -
I just found this pretty cool song by Berlin based band The History of Colour TV. Has a bit of Crystal Castles aesthetics in it... Pretty noisy stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNahR4II0dA

Those prices are ridiculous indeed. Does anybody really pays that much?? I wouldn't do it.
-
Nice pic but it looks a bit too photoshopped for my taste.

Yeah I really like this article too. And it made some people I know rethink the "not authentic" issue that so often surrounds discussions about Lana.
-
I think Ghetto Baby is okay but a bit meaningless.

I know this article is quite old (it's from January 2012) but I think it's an entertaining read for Lana fans and an essential read especially for all those Lana haters out there – "Deconstructing Lana Del Rey". Pretty interesting stuff. http://www.spin.com/articles/deconstructing-lana-del-rey
