  1. People saying UV is her magnum opus when it was already topped by Honeymoon... the clownery  :toofunny:

    My thoughts exactly :D

HM didn’t top UV. UV was definitely her magnum opus. HM is a close second, but by no means beats it. The collection of songs from Cruel World to PWYC are top tier. HM just doesn’t have a strong run of several songs like that.

The entirety of HM besides HBTB and DLMBM are top tier.

For me HM is her magnum opus. The whole thing is just so immaculate, the lush beautiful production, the transitions between Freak & Art Deco, Burnt Norton & Religion & Salvatore.

  2. Honeymoon deserved an intimate venue type of tour where she didn’t have to “perform” on stage and just be creative with her vocals by herself. Like the way she performed Terrence Loves You, she takes a seat, belts and gets into it during that song. The stage set could’ve had the same color theme as the Endless Summer Tour, but smaller, indoors, and would make the audience feel like they’re in a jazz club. Ugh... what could’ve been...

I was thinking about this just the other day... Oh my gosh it would have been beautiful..

Just wait for 10 years and we'll have Lana do a tour where she performs with symphonies around the world. Dare to dream.

    A boy can dream......

  3.

Maybe she's avoiding social media. Must hurt to have the album leak. I'd avoid social media as well if I was her. So much hurtful stuff has been said by fans this era who somehow think they're owed something.

  4. I thought that too, but the song structure (as we know it goes)

First verse: John met me down at the boulevard . . .

    then

Second verse: Jim met me down at the training yard . . .

The album sample we have starts at the end of the first verse, where we hear the beat is already there, and then goes into the second. So I don't think so.  :noparty:

Plus, we haven't heard the whole thing yet but it sounds like HIAB and Hope are the only 'piano' ballads now . . ?

    Oh very good point :P

It's not about opinions about how Lana looks, it is about ridiculous societal expectations of women. Why does a woman need to put makeup on to attend a party? LDR is wearing respectable clothes. Men aren't expected to put on makeup to attend a party or put endless time into their hair. Why should women?

Pretty sure the effort required for a party is a) look respectable (which Lana was) and b) be there.

I've got no issue with anyone commenting on whether or not they like a hairstyle/clothes/whatever on LDR, but when it crosses over into saying that it is an expectation for women to wear makeup, I have an issue with that.

  6. But LDR was a "grown woman" then too. She's just older now and, like so many artists, has decided that she has to become 'relevant' and 'woke' to be taken seriously. This has happened to pop stars, especially female pop stars, since at least Marianne Faithfull in the 1960s. Some, like Tori Amos, started out singing about heavy issues, and just continued. I'm glad that Madonna, who I am not a great fan of, also went through this phase, was later able to drop all the seriousness and return to pure pop.

This to me seems like the opposite to what has happened. She’s less constrained by things like needing to make a hit record, then she was in the BTD days. Ultraviolence, Honeymoon and NFR (based on what we’ve heard) is Lana making the music she wants to, because she’s made it now.

  7. not sure if this was discussed. but im upset over how chuck is treated. i understand and i agree, she isnt the best LDR photographer and the urban cover was a CHOICE (even though i did buy it :hooker: ). but when she posted the cover yesterday, god the comments were awful. people were flat out telling her to fuck off and get away from lana. some fag even went on a whole paragraph rant about why this is the biggest disappointment, first off its not that deep damn. second, this is lana's sister! lana probably hates us enough lets just fucking directly attack and harass her sister. and im really not being dramatic. go check out the comments urself if you didnt see. some were seriously not ok and i cant even imagine how she feels being obviously happy with her first version and seeing all this unnecessary direct hate, over what? a picture? being so dramatic and crude over a P H O T O. directly attacking the photographer? i really hope ive seen it all but god knows how far these fags will go

People can be so mean sometimes.

I love her last three covers (NFR, LFL and HM). All shot by Chuck. At the end of the day it's a personal preference whether you like a cover or not....  not something to go attack her about.

I'm fairly sure Lana is the sort of person who would be happy to just go make music for herself and live her own life. She probably has all the money she needs, and the amount of hate that gets thrown at her would be pretty off-putting for someone like her. Anyway... just my 2 cents.

  8. I think TNBAR was there since the beginning. One of the songs she added is HTD because she announced 11 tracks in September and was working on HTD in October, and then announced 13 tracks in December or January, I don't remember. Maybe the other one is Cinnamon Girl since she teased it around the same time as HTD

I agree - she said in an interview that she already had three songs when she first started working with Jack - so I think TNBAR, HIAB and Bartender were part of the original 11.

I’m almost sure that Doin’ Time was the last thing added.
