There is so much hate for the percussion on How to Disappear.  I haven't seen anyone mention this yet - so let me share some facts about the "jingle bells" on HTD.  And maybe this will help you all have less of a problem with them. 

 

I personally love them. 

 

First of all, they are called "sleigh bells" by musicians in the studio, and they were a big trademark of Brian Wilson's mid-60s Beach Boys productions.  He used them the way other producers would use tambourines, and they always added a distinctive sparkle to the Beach Boys.  You can hear them most famously on God Only Knows from Pet Sounds.  So over the last 50 years when another artist uses sleigh bells it's 9 times out of 10 in an effort to reference/pay tribute to Brian Wilson/Pet Sounds.  Being that Lana is always finding new ways to reference California, Laurel Canyon, the 60s, Beach Boys this makes perfect sense. 

The sleigh bells really get on me. I absolutely love all of HTD its really really really beautiful. Especially the little instrumental break, makes Verse 3 and the Outro so beautifully emotional. 

This album is so good I still have no words even after multiple listens... I'm close to putting it above Honeymoon

That other Guardian review is the Observer review...both count.

 

Also, UV is her other album with no bad songs. HM starts so well, but the end is a major let down. DLMBM is so poor compared to TOW, and 24 is rather mediocre. I also think Swan Song is highly overrated.

I really can't pick favourites off this album.... 

That being said... California is pretty damn amazing. 

How to Disappear has also grown massively on me. I loveeddd the piano version, was thrown by the album version, but it has grown on me massively with each listen. The instrumental bit towards the end is really beautiful.

Hard to tell. This is following the pattern of Honeymoon which she announced and followed through with, but the rollout of NFR says otherwise.

She thought she couldn't write again after BTD, then Dan Auerbach inspired her to do UV, and then she did Honeymoon so soon after.

She wasn't writing after LFL, then Jack Antonoff inspired her to do NFR, and then she will do this so soon after.

I want another Honeymoon so fricking badly.

It's still hitting me that the album is out, Its so amazing. There isn't a single song I want to skip. 

OH MY GOSH SHE SNAPPED 

I love it now I've heard it in full. Only negatives I thought was the production on HTD - with just a bit of tweaking and the removal of that weird vocal filter/random 'drop' where production disappears it would be perfect, and TNBAR - I'm spoilt by the demo. Otherwise its an amazing album.

It’s what it deserves.

White Mustang was an early fave for me of LFL... but I feel it hasn't aged well.... Its too short, it needed another minute and a half where it went somewhere epic

Lana just gives off some republican lady vibes.....especially back in 2013-2014 lol

Tbh I always thought lana was a republican and that’s why she never talked about politics lmfao....

I began to think that but various interviews and stuff she's said during the LFL period convinced me overwise 

so by the looks of it, everybody on this site has already listened to the album. i can't be the only one waiting for midnight 

I haven't - still waiting. That being said, I've heard the snippets Lana posted + MAC, VB, HIADT, DT, FIILY and TG. 

NFR is lana’s best album to date, her magnum opus!!!!
