I’m genuinely conflicted as to which version of ‘The Next Best American Record’ that I like best. Initially I hated that the lyrics were changed, but now I appreciate it just as much as the demo, but for different reasons...
I’ve said it time and time and time again, this album is such an experience.. one that I listen to almost every day and seem to never tire of.

I co-signed this.
My problem with Ultraviolence is that Cruel World, Sad Girl, Money Power Glory, Fucked My Way up to the top kinda merge into a dirge for me (sometimes Pretty When You Cry as well) + Guns and Roses and The Other Woman are both very meh (to me). Ultraviolence, Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Old Money, Black Beauty and Florida Kilos are all fantastic, which is why I'm not the biggest Ultraviolence fan despite my 7 standout tracks.
My interest in Ultraviolence is very up and down. Sometimes I really enjoy the 5 (Cruel World, Sad Girl, Money Power Glory, Fucked My Way up to the top and Pretty When You Cry) but often I really don't. Thus Ultraviolence moves around in my ranking - it's always below Honeymoon and NFR but sometimes I like it better than BTD, sometimes I don't.

I'm also hoping that this album is like burnt norton and has music in the background, sound effects etc. I'm really looking forward to it, I love listening to her speak.

all i want is a honeymoon-esque sound with a honeymoon type rollout like that’s all i want
Same <3

all i wanna say is that Jack ruined NFR for me. I HATE THIS GUY.
i tried to listen to the whole thing, like 3 or 4 times, and it's always the same things that bother me, things that actually could've been removed in a blink of an eye, which is even more annoying. i get that this is Lana's vision but dude you're a producer.... you're supposed to like, you know.. produce..? if you see any minor issue, like white noise or literally awful digital instruments, aren't you supposed to... speak up?
also, believe it or not...... the fact that Jack produced her album.... is what made NFR look so good to Grammies, Pitchfork, & Co..!!
these mfs payed her dust and TRASHED her throughout her WHOLE career, and suddenly.. cuz :
- they rate NFR 9.0 (which clearly do NOT deserve such a high rate considering how awful the production is and how the work is half assed done),
- they call NFR album of the year
- and out of the blue say Lana paved the way for so many artists of the decade...
y'all care? y'all keep Jared-ing us with those "no!! 1! NFR is her best album cuz critics said so!!¡1".. it's not cool..
don't be that delusional......we all know that if Jack didn't produce NFR, sure, she maybe would've gotten nominated..
but she would've gotten SNUBBED! like every year!! LMAO, and NFR's rate wouldn't be better than 7, or 7.5 at last! (+ the album would've been 100% better if Beef Stroganoff didn't ruin it which just shows how stupid and full of SHIT critics are
)
please be better than this. i don't think it's fair to suddenly suck their ding dongs when they've been so cruel to Lana for such a long time...
Or I dunno maybe the critics just enjoyed the album as much as some of us here did?
Yeah its annoying Lana didn't get the critical acclaim for albums like Honeymoon when she obviously should have but thats the past. I'm just glad she's getting it for this album.

Wow been a while since I checked this thread and the endless hate continues.
Personally its her best album for me. I've listened to it endlessly since it came out. Every song is magical and I love the production. Every time I listen I seem to think of a new interpretation of the lyrics, or notice something different about the production. Definitely my top album of 2019, and maybe my top album of the decade.

Lana sang TNBAR record acapella last night!!
But you could barely hear her bc some fans were singing so loud...
arghhhhhhh

ummm... the Paradise era was clearly the best. Ride, Blue Velvet, (bonus track/video) Burning Desire + TROPICO (Body Electric, Gods & Monsters, Bel Air) makes 6 videos for that era. And between Ride and Tropico these videos were coming straight from Lana's creative vision. No lazy iphone videos. These were top notch visionary. I'd love to see her top this era someday, but it's feeling less and less likely as the years go by.
I forgot about paradise... But still its not like we got nothing in this era.
-
remember when Lana made music videos? those were really the days
Uh we got three proper music videos (well a double for TG and FILY + DT) for this era, same as we got for pretty much every other era except for BTD which had four.

Jeez there is a lotta hate for this album on here.
I still can't say how much I enjoy this album. Honeymoon is the only one I've enjoyed as much, however it took a while for it to grow on me, where as NFR was instant. Perhaps it was the snippets or the early release of MAC, VB and HIADT...
On another note.. time is ticking for the NFR/HIAB/Bartender music vid...

then who was the dude singing in it?
According to slang:
I can see him being extremely bummed about UV, given Brooklyn Baby has a soundalike musician singing the male part at the end of that song (Seth Kaufman, everyone was fooled by this initially and thought it was Barrie). So UV is really the beginning of the end for them.
From wikipedia as well:

I'm shook to have found out that Brooklyn Baby doesn't have Barrie in it
Anyone else really not like the new lyrics in TNBAR but now scream them out like they're the best thing ever??
-
Its funny - from the previews she posted, California and Norman Fucking Rockwell were my least favourites and now California is my favourite and NFR amongst my favourites. That being every song on this masterpiece is a favourite. She better at least get a Grammy nomination.

She mentions during the part wher she is talking about the album title that she was driving in Yosemite with Chuck and they were talking
ohh so not the song but the place?

Here is the full thing
She said she goes to the gym and does power lifting.
She talked about choosing the font for the album cover and the story about the album title
She mentions Yosemite and the american dream
She was asked what is the american dream for her
The guy asked her some question at the very end that she didn't like but he said it so fast I didn't understand what it was
Am I going crazy or did I miss the mention of Yosemite??

We're in the middle of October and Honeymoon stans are still having meltdowns over one of the most acclaimed albums of the decade, NFR!
I love NFR, but just because it has more critical acclaim than honeymoon doesn’t necessarily make it a better album.
-
You mean corner Jack and make him listen to an album that is actually properly produced and mastered?!
You don’t by any chance think that how NFR is down to Lana not Jack?
Jack’s work for others is fine (eg Lorde and Taylor Swift)
That being said I love how NFR sounds.
NFR and Honeymoon are my fave albums.
-
Do we know about any other songs performed?
I'm dying to hear more of NFR performed properly... Can't believe California and The Greatest are being snubbed :'( Don't want them destined for the wasteland that The Blackest Day is in, which has still never been done live besides a small acapella.
-
Can we corner Jack and give him a copy of Honeymoon and get him to do his own take on the honeymoon vibe/sound mixed with NFR for WHF????????

How depressing.... agreed also that if she didn’t win with this one with all the critical reception then what chance does she ever have. Had billie’s album come out before 2012 it would have been trashed. I think Billie is very talented but NFR is such a superior album and Lana has done her time releasing album after album which have been under-recognised.
