  1. California is probably my favorite song right now, which is weird bc it was the one I liked the least when the album dropped  :defeated:

Cinnamon has grown on me too, and Happiness still mesmerizes me  :legend:

Still not a big fan of Hope though, I'm not that repulsed by the song as I was before the album release and sometimes when I'm listening to the album and it comes on I listen to it, but it's not a song I go after y'know?  :teehee:

California is my fave - though kinda similar, the funny thing is that it was the snippet I was least excited about..

Just wanna say that California is so FUCKING POWERFUL. The vulnerability as she expresses that her old lover still has a hold on her and how she admits that she will accept him back in a heartbeat is so raw. I just want to cry and break down every time i hear it

It really is, its so emotional <3

California is my favourite from the album too. With every listen i love this song more. It really gets in my soul. I can feel the emotion in my heart and the was she sings in the chorus..I can really feel that she would do everything for this person. Lana would even start to drink again (the liquor line). Actually this song /the feeling i get from it reminded me of brother. You don't know that but I'm lost my brother in the beginning of 2018 and it was a very hard time and I still miss him so much but I would do anything for him if he would come back to earth. And I would throw a party all night long if he would be here and I would hit up old places with him. It is not same situation like Lana describes in the Song but it reminded of my situation. This song is really a masterpiece.

    Aw <3

  2. please!! remove ur head from her ass u will live a significantly more fulfilling life

Wow your rudeness isn’t appreciated. I did say “sounds to ME”.

Throughout the song, there are various production things going on, the production suddenly disappears and changes in the chorus at ‘this is how to disappear’, and to me, (NOTE I SAID ME), the final instrumental section follows the pattern of change and disruption to production in order to give a sense of ending.

  3. If you think the very obvious volume increase in HTD was "carefully chosen and placed" to create a "retro and timeless" sound, then there's nothing more to say.

There are glaring technical errors that are not conducive to creating a "retro and timeless" sound. They're  mistakes, and anyone with experience in sound production knows it.

Whatever, though. If it's you love it then good for you.

Which increase in volume? The one in the instrumental section right at the end? That one sounds artistic to me without a doubt, so I assume there is another one somewhere else.

  4. the first time i saw lana it was great to hear btd songs, but also she didn’t have anything else out besides paradise so :toofunny: i feel like she thinks her concerts are majority locals with the exception of her stalkers at barricade, so she caters to locals on purpose. maybe she’s scared ppl won’t know the other songs. maybe she’s not confident trying out new songs. she should do it anyways tho

I think nerves stop her from being more experimental with her setlist unfortunately...

  5. petition to change the medley to Terrence Loves You, Old Money, and Love Song

     Brilliant Suggestion.

    My ideal setlist is:

    1. Norman Fucking Rockwell
    2. Bartender
    3. Happiness is a Butterfly
    4. Born to Die/Summertime Sadness
    5. How to Disappear
    6. Cherry
    7. The Greatest
    8. Pretty When you Cry
    9. Love Song/Change/Old Money/Terrance Loves You
    10. Ride
    11. Brooklyn Baby
    12. California
    13. The Blackest Day
    14. Mariners Apartment Complex
    15. Music to Watch Boys to
    16. Cinnamon Girl
    17. Shades of Cool
    18. Swan Song

    Encore

    19. Get Free

    20. Video Games

    21. Venice Bitch

I mean ideally Video games wouldn't even be on there... but just being realistic :P (despite the rest of it being unrealistic)

  6. Venice Bitch is amazing! Winter is over in Australia and we had a 30 degree day (Celsius), I was listening to the whole album, and it was all amazing. Venice Bitch is so nice in the afternoon when its warm. Also on afternoon drives. I could have a 30 minute version and would love it <3

She really did bless us with an amazing album.

I wish the greatest had more choruses and verses!!

  7.

Nek minute, Norman Fucking Rockwell, the extended fucking soundtrack edition featuring 'Don't Call Me Angel' and 'Season of the Witch'.

I go hard for Lust For Life and I know based on many comments made from the fan base that I’m in the minority that believes Lust For Life the song is fucking amazing and probably in her top 10 of all time.... but the album as a whole is not better than NFR. sorry not sorry.

LFL (The song) is a banger! Though I would love a version without the weekend.

  8. My ranking...

    1. California = Venice Bitch = Love Song = Cinnamon Girl = How to Disappear = The Next Best American Record = The Greatest = Happiness is a Butterfly

    2. Norman Fucking Rockwell = Mariners Apartment Complex

    3. Bartender = Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have, but I have it

    4. Fuck it I love you = Doin Time

    Huh?

It's not a nod if your song sounds nothing like the song you're attempting to emulate the sound of.

    That's a reach. Not a nod.

    I disagree.

You can reference another artist, through using a specific instrument, The song doesn't have to sound the same.

  9. I disagree. God Only Knows has a completely different sound - it is far more upbeat and surfy. There is literally no similarity between the two songs at all, other than the fact that they both have bells. Maybe God Only Knows is what they were going for, but if so, it didn't work.

Honestly, if you're gonna say that it sounds like God Only Knows then it's also fair to say that it sounds like Jingle Bells, because it's about as similar to the former as it is to the latter.

Didn't say they had the same sound, but that doesn't prevent the use of sleigh bells from being (as I said) a nod to the Beach Boys who used them in multiple songs including Dance, Dance, Dance, I Can Hear Music and God Only Knows.

  10. I liked the bit where she said she let her friends listen to NFR to gauge whether or not it was good.

    That would include Chase.

Imagine having a boyfriend with a terrible moustache who goes to vitamin IV parties and leads you to believe that the jingle bells in HTD are in any way acceptable.

    Stan Larrie 2.0 :smile3:

    The jingle bells are acceptable.

After being used to the piano version it was a bit of an adjustment but has really grown on me. As someone else mentioned its a nod to the Beach Boys in God Only Knows and I like that.

it'll be over for me if she performed tbd

    Same...

Is it wrong that she could do a concert where all she did was like a 20 minute version of the Blackest Day and I'd be happy with that?
