People see these lyrics and think oh no she's singing about her family again, when I see that she's singing about relatable concepts such as worrying for loved ones, wondering if those closest to you will always be by your side, asking if you'll one day have the same good fortunes that other people have. An emotional rollercoaster I fear

Lana feature in Billboard Magazine - February 25th, 2023 [Print]

Exactly! People are too lazy, like maybe I can't relate to the specific members of her family, but I can relate to the feelings she evokes while singing about these things. Even Jenny jumping into the pool, or Chucky's making birthday cake, these moments paint such loving and nostalgic pictures that I almost feel bad for people who can't connect.- 143 replies

That's really interesting! Maybe she's calling him a charlatan and then using that reference as a way to prove it, because turning a woman into a pillar for looking back when she wasn't supposed to is just absurd, and kind of ties into themes she's explored with women not being free to be themselves without persecution. Also Lana's always had a complicated connection to religion it seems, she clearly goes to church and probably believes in God, but I think she also sees a lot of the hypocrisy surrounding religion and has no problem calling it out. She even says in I Talk To Jesus to only read the red, so the words of Jesus and nothing else.

I couldn't get through it but all Lana promo is good

A&W is obviously innovative in my opinion but the fact that we can even discuss whether or not it's one of her best tracks is wild and amazing because it goes to show how incredible her music is. Most artists could only dream of having a song as good as that. She really is the greatest and we are so lucky to be along for the ride

Okay interesting thanks for the insight! -
This album is going to be so peaceful Hollywood Bowl is an interesting closing title, it really doesn't fit with the rest.

What do you guys with all your vinyl variants? Like do they all sit together on the shelf? Do you display them in some sort of grid? I always just get the standards but I'm obsessed with all the variants this time, much to contemplate -
Norman Fucking Rockwell - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
DCooper replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
I get what you mean but I also think there's a lot of uncertainty beneath the surface that mixed with the breezy feeling of the record makes for a really interesting and relevant experience. I love the way it explores Lana's anxieties as a girl who's just trying to do the best she can as she navigates life, without even realizing that the world is collapsing all around her, which of course it does in The Greatest, the album's climax and a shift towards the more complex self-discovery that she's pursued since. She briefly tries to escape this new reality in Bartender and Happiness is a Butterly, but by Hope she's finally facing the weight of the world head-on with one of her starkest and boldest songs ever that really ties the album together. So while I agree it's not overly political, I think the social landscape of the country subtly affects her personal journey on the album and it all comes crashing down in a really incredible way. Maybe it's just the way I interpret the album but those are my thoughts, I love it so much -
It's probably unlikely but I wouldn't be completely shocked if the oceanblvd account is some sort of tour account like some people were speculating, and they just set it up way too early. Or in a hilarious turn of events it has nothing to do with Lana and we never hear from it again Also I'm not convinced they were actually mad about the release date leaking

Tbh I like their approach right now, like what is she supposed to be saying about the release anyways this week? A&W should speak for itself, I think it's smart after dropping a song like this to stand back and watch it work its magic. For me she's building the best kind of hype We also have strong reason to believe that we have at least one if not two more magazines coming, and I personally don't want any more music except for at most one more single a week before the album.
