  1. PSA: when people bring up the fact that “she’s 35 years old” it’s not to say that 35 is an “old” age (just saying because there have been countless times where people interpret that argument as ageist), but rather, there is a natural evolution that we’ve been socialized to undergo as we approach our thirties. I see what both sides are saying - but I personally think that the music is going to continue to get deeper and more vulnerable, and that may be reflected in the production. It’s not inherently “better” than her previous records but it’s more mature (I’m using that term objectively) and representative of who Lana is at this moment in time. I’m always here for wherever Lana takes us and that seems to be the majority, which is amazing. I get the qualms about comparing an album she wrote when she was 25 compared to an album she wrote at 35, but there is naturally going to be a shift there. It would be weird if there wasn’t.
  2. I really, really like how when she says “hot coffee, I’m better...” it almost sounds like she’s saying “hot coffee, I’m bitter.” Coffee on its own is often thought of as having a bitter taste, and given the lines about her “father’s wife” and the second verse and chorus in particular, I wonder if that was intentional — to have it sound like both “better” and “bitter.” It would definitely fit thematically because there is a hint of bitterness in the song, but then she affirms to her lover that she won’t “burn like the others” which links back to the line actually being “I’m better with you.” Ugh!! she’s brilliant
  3. This album and Behind the Iron Gates being released close to each other is going to be such a moment. I fear the earth to be scorched when she drops these 2 projects. The heat and fire of artistry will be too much to handle
  4. OK a couple thoughts about the release of the album - 1. The use of the term “buzz singles” in the press release is probably the same thing as NFR. I remember when MAC, VB, and Hope were referred to as “buzz singles” and it sent everyone into a frenzy about whether or not they’d be on the album, and they of course ended up on the record so I think these 3 tracks are going to be on the album and the term “buzz single” is probably used very loosely. 2. A few days ago, one of the ATRL insiders (I think @/issgoulding) said that the album is out in less than 2 months ( @Nikogo posted it pages ago <3). People knew two weeks ago that the singles would come out this week so I imagine that they would also know when the album was coming, especially since they have the songs. I really think and hope July 4th will happen, or at least the album will be released this summer.
  5. Mike Dean clapping back on Twitter is who I aspire to be professionally, karmically, and in every word with a suffix of "-ally"
  6. <3 Oh my goodness, that’s awfully sweet to say! Thank you so much, same to you
  7. I know I’m always in this thread but I swear - the writing on these songs is just phenomenal. It’s truly lightyears ahead of anything else she’s done; she has always been an amazing, gifted writer, but you can objectively feel the growth in these 3 tracks (as if there was anywhere to go for an artist who is always at her lyrical peak, in all honesty). They’re just so stunning. This record already feels really special in that the writing is confessional, revealing, and poetic at the same time. The words sound so euphonious and her vocals are strong as ever. I love all her records and she’s always been a genuine, true artist, but there’s really a weight of emotion that we’re really lucky to be hearing from Lana this time around. I can’t imagine baring it all to the extent that she did to anyone.
  8. I just want to point out that it’s interesting she chose a selfie from when she was blonde for the single covers, given the lyric “Do you think if I go blonde we could get our old love back?” That, paired with the lyric, “My father never stepped in when his wife would rage at me,” also makes me think about the “bruises” she added onto two of the covers, as well as the promised-challenging of accusations that she glamorizes domestic abuse. These two things considered - alongside the theory that she’s playing into the jokes people have made about her previous single/album covers - really shows that the single covers are well thought-out. You may not think they’re the most aesthetically pleasing, but you can’t really deny the fact that Lana is clearly trying to evoke something out of her listeners. I love it
  9. Blue Banisters - Gabe Simon Text Book - Gabe Simon and Zachary Dawes Wildflower Wildfire - Mike Dean
  10. Gabe Simon confirms in an IG post that Blue Banisters and Text Book were written in October 2020, when Nikki Lane introduced him to Lana while in Nashville. https://www.instagram.com/p/CPHVrySh-Qx/?utm_medium=copy_link Zachary Dawes reposted it and also tagged Dean Reid (who has engineered previous records for Lana, notably Lust for Life and “The Next Best American Record” on NFR!), Darren Weiss, John Congleton, and Melodye Perry (who was one of the three backing vocalists featured on Summertime the Gershwin Version and LMLYLAW Live on Fallon), indicating they were also involved on Text Book.
  11. Probably Lana’s close friend, Jen Stith!
  12. If she does post on the anniversary of QFTC tomorrow, I think it would be a typewritten statement announcing the album. I don’t think she would address QFTC directly, but rather deliver some preamble for the record now that we have 3 songs from it.
  13. @Elle I didn’t see your thoughts on the new songs! What did you think?
  14. Thank you! <3 I think so too, I feel like cover will either be really thought out in terms of design, like the NFR cover, or really simple and pared down but in an intentional way, like the single covers. I’m excited to see!
  15. Cover concept! Lana “burning” the narrative of her critics. If you look closely, her name, the album title, and various pictures of her - including the infamous car selfie - are on the newspaper. Edited to mimic the BB video as well. Hope you like it - the three tracks we’ve heard today are absolutely godly so I’m really revelling in Lana’s creative genius <3
  16. I really love this. I always love reading your thoughts and hearing what you have to say <3
  17. Where do you guys think the three songs are in the tracklist? She usually releases the songs that are at the front of the album as singles, so I think: - the title track is track 1 - Wildflower Wildfire is track 2 - just because her track 2s tend to stay within the same vein as the opener, sonically, and both BB and WW begin with piano - Text Book is track 3 - it has the most different production compared to the 2 songs and I could see it being the start of a different sound developing throughout the record. Plus, her track 3s are always standouts in terms of lyrics and production and this song is no exception (although all 3 tracks from today are standouts for those reasons!)
  18. They’re just so good. What the hell. I seriously cannot get over them. I think my favourite Lana tracks are always the ones where she goes all the way in about her life and turns the most inward. These 3 are the epitome of that!
  19. All 3 of these songs are thematically very heavy. And I love that. I really appreciate Lana’s vulnerability because she doesn’t have to put this all out on the table. But she does anyway.
  20. When she whispers “hot fire, hot weather...” and sings with breathy vocals at the end “like the others baby, burn, burn, burn” in WW
