Nightwolf liked a post in a topic by elllipsis in Lana, Lorde, & Feminism
I agree with a big part of what you said, but I don't think she was trying to be controversial tbh. If anything, she was trying to be politically correct by saying something *a lot * of people strongly believe in these days. I think it's kinda sad that a portion (because not all of it is like this, not by any means) of the feminist movement is less about true empowerment & telling women it's ok to make their own choices, and more about dictating how a feminist & empowered woman should behave and be like, and trying to impose those views on all other women regardless of how they actually feel about them.
This pretty much sums up my opinion on what I just said:
It sure as hell wasn't right when men did it, and it's still not right when women do it either.
About what Lorde said: imo (and like I said before in that status) that's an invalid criticism when it comes to music or any other type of art. I don't think artists should 'moderate' themselves or 'rethink' what they want to sing or write about because of a potential copy-cat effect on their audience. She didn't lie though, the drug-loving, adulterous & men-dependent lifestyle Lana sings about & seems to be fascinated with isn't exactly the healthiest in the world; however, and even though she eventually became a role model (even if she never wanted it, she didn't have a choice), Lana is first and foremost a musician & imo her primary concern while writing music can't be 'oh dear, how negatively will this influence my fans?'.

I'm down for this logic, as long as Khaleesi =/= Daenerys in this context. I wouldn't wish Daenerysism (well, I suppose it's a word now) on my worst enemy. (Unpopular opinion, I know.)

The remix is so generic and shit, honestly. Sigh, happy to see this do well for her either way, but i can only feel depressed that someone had never heard of her before and heard this shit remix first and thought "god she's amazing", not realizing her music is actually so much more interesting and beautifully produced than that cheap Guetta crap.

I don't mind covers if they are done well (which is, like, 5% of cases, tbh), but most of them just end up being a showcase of a dude's/dudette's pipes and that just makes Lana's songs sound really generic (this may be just my bias against oversinging speaking). Or worse, they might actually try and fail to sound like Lana. Lana's songs are just really hard to cover successfully.
I don't mind remixes as long as they stay in night clubs and beach parties, where they belong, but radio release of SS remix really annoys me. It's a really bad marketing move, imo, since many GP people who liked Y&B may now throw accusations of selling out (again) or radio play thirst, or whatever and most GP people who like the remix will just not be interested in her actual music, so it's a no-win situation. Doesn't help that they chose the most basic remix they could find. They could have just used that German radio mix, since it's awesome, more radio friendly, actually has a character and isn't a big leap from Lana's actual sound. Or, you know, the album version, but I guess that's too much to ask.

I kind of agree about Y&B, but, out of curiosity, would you feel this way if it was on Paradise, as it was initially supposed to be? I feel like it's more scrutinized because it's a single. Now if her next album is a turd, then I'd start to worry, but for now, I'll reserve my judgment. Not that I'm trying to force you my opinion or anything.

Every time I see this Yayo hate I just sigh and shake my head. Then I remember that Lana likes what she's done to it just as much as I do and I feel better.

You can't expect someone to walk a completly straight line when it comes to delivery HQ art to your liking. First of all, IT'S A FUCKING SOUNDTRACK SINGLE. NOT THE FIRST SINGLE OF AN UPCOMING ALBUM! She's ON TOUR, did you really expect smoke and mirrors for the video? (Okay, we did get mirrors, but C'MON)
Yikes. Yall need to chillax, especially when its still this early in someone career.

I think it's difficult to say that she's going downhill on the basis of the only track released since Paradise, and a seemingly phoned-in video. If you disliked Paradise, too, then fair enough, but I think that judgement should be reserved until we have more substantial new material to make an informed statement. Both Young & Beautiful and this video have quite clearly not been her primary focus; considering that this track is lyrically adapted for the movie rather than a bespoke creation, and that the video was likely done inbetween recording sessions, photoshoots, possibly touring (if having to "re-record" is accurate) then she's obviously going to stick to what she knows, play it safe, and not devote all of her time and attention to it.
I do agree that Young & Beautiful and this video are far from her best work, but I wouldn't use it against her just yet.
