Did anyone else catch a connection between this song and the Burnt Norton - Interlude? She talks about entering the "rose garden" and now her "rose garden dreams (are) set on fire by fiends". I mean she loves roses in general so it could be a total coincidence, but I love finding hints in the lyrics that connect her songs to older ones.

@Tropico Roses Just to clarify, you quoted me, but the theory about Sean is by @strange weather She was who put the clues together.

Wait, do you think this has anything to do with Lana stating that she was recently at a facility by the ocean in her poem Patent Leather Do-Over?

If so, it almost appears that she’s connecting the “rage” of her mother when she was younger to her hospitalization at the age of 34, according to the poem. If she’s not referencing the facility, it’s rather disturbing to think of what else her mother’s “rage” would cause her to be hospitalized.

If I remember correctly, Lana (understandably) responded harshly to what she perceived to be Ann Power’s public suggestion that Lana underwent abuse when she was younger without Lana actually denying it happened. I dunno.

Either way, it’s incredibly sad, but I’m proud of Lana for being this vulnerable and candid

I really like the theory of it being about Sean and it being about how this is what came between them. That makes a lot of sense to me (theory originally from @strange weather )

Also, my bff is coming thru with amazing theories about this song, including wondering if this lyric says "alive" instead of "alike" - Basically referencing people who criticize folks protesting and saying they're overreacting, when really they are "taking initiative to change things and not just accepting the fact that 'this is how it's always been and there's nothing we can do about it'" (quoted directly from my friend). And how protesting and fighting for change will finally help things start to get better

Another BFF theory is that "father" could have the double meaning of her actual father and America.

Ive been thinking about these lyrics a lot... could she be talking about being blonde like she was when she was a child and have the same innocent, loving relationship with her father? Jealous of Patty stealing attention away from her? Especially since she and her mom have a tumultuous relationship?

Is it about going blonde to make her fans love her again? Jealous of fans moving on to loving different artists more than her? - this doesn't really fit with the theme of the song, just spitballin here lol

Going blonde for a lover? She references dying her hair a lot for her partners in other songs.

BFF wonders if it could be about being jealous of other countries? If you go with the theory of America as the father

    All of the above?

Obviously all speculation until we learn more (if lana ends up talking about these songs)

A lot to think about with this song

What I can promise is I’ll lie down
    Like a bed of wildflowers
And I'll always make the sheets
Smell like gardenias wild at your feet
    And I nourish you hazily

Hm I think she’s referring to the media (specifically the Ann Powers article) and their assumptions about her upbringing/lack of authenticity. It’s truly her telling her own story.

Okay so maybe I'm just being extra, but does anyone feel like this part is kind of directly referring to fans/us speculating about her personal story?

"Here's the deal (cause I know you want to talk about it)
Here's the deal - you say there's gaps to fill, so here
Here's the deal - my father never stepped in when his wife
     would rage at me"

Like obviously it's speaking about her past and her family, but the way she says "here's the deal" a bunch of times seems kind of like she's consciously saying "okay, you all have been wondering about this so here you go". And then the way she specifically says "gaps to fill in" reminds me a lot of how people on this board have spoken about the time periods and details of her past that are hard to tie together...maybe I'm reaching, but idk, it shook me

Wait is Jenny in BB possibly Jenny Lewis? She is BFFs w Nikki lane and I’ve always wondered if her and Lana know each other- in some ways they have a lot in common as songwriters. Would LOVE a collab tbh!

Anyhow 24hrs into new songs & TB is def hitting this morning. Listening to the songs loud while driving has been the perfect way to hear them. Whoever said TB has UV vibes I finally heard that this morning- something about the melody of the piano, and it’s resonance, reminds me of UV the song specifically. WW remains unreal and I have to say BB gave me a WHOLE diff story than the snippet implied- thought we were getting a love story, got something way more complex. Love that for her. All in all I am now totally hype for the new album and delusionally hoping it really does come out SUNDAY July 4 lmao…
