  1. You and the others are only doing it to defend Lana, though. I can hammer on both but it makes precisely zero sense to do that on a post not about her. Whataboutism is a fallacy for a reason.
  2. No they didn't. They decided it would be a cool idea to completely redirect. People who were already prone to glaze Lana would have found another reason or another way to deflect. Also Domestic Violence is right up there with rape and people are out here running interference to defend Lana and absolve her of what small amount of responsibility she has in the reaction to that.
  3. If this was MelanieBoards and in a Random Melanie Discussion Thread, I would be doing that. Also bringing it up on her subreddit got me and others banned for it, so I've done it before there. Regardless, it doesn't change how I feel about Lana and does not, in any way, make it okay what she's done. You're redirecting to Melanie to deflect. And to me, all of those things that both of them have done are terrible and whether or not you think so has no impact on how I feel. And if I wasn't a Melanie fan, you'd find some other reason to try and redirect things away from Lana
  4. It's not that she made the songs at all that's immoral. I love those songs and can relate to UV for reasons. It's what's happening with this victim that puts everything else into a bad light, for me. Regarding Melanie: I already addressed that. And the fact a Melanie has done fucked up things doesn't absolve Lana of anything. And I can be critical of both, a skill some people seem to lack. Every single artist I like can and have (probably) done horrible things and I can call them out for that
  5. The art people make is reflective of their morals and HOW you talk about it matters.
  6. Regarding this, and I think it applies to every single person, it doesn't matter if someone does a certain value. But if you're partner's values include racism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-migrant sentiment... no matter what you may think of it, by being with them and tolerating it, you might as well have those values yourself.
  7. 1. Of course you'd say that. 2. It doesn't matter why she did it. The lyrics are there. She didn't need to mention it at all. Would it be better if I said she'd decided to use it as her own personal prop rather than something serious? 3. She's responsible for all of the messages she sends by the things she does bc she's a celebrity. Her social power makes it that way. And by doing what she does, she's representing one. She is responsible for that. She's being a hypocrite. She pretended to oppose Trump by pretending to be a witch. She can be held accountable for everything she does, including being a hypocritical, vapid person. 4. She is responsible for hiring them. For making sure they do what's in her best interests. She's does a lot, personally, for a domestic abuser. Gotcha. My last post was posted before I saw this.
  8. To you. But I know you don't value any of the things that I do. The things she's done that I find fucked up are: 1. Question For The Culture (had this been the only messed up thing she did, and it was for awhile, i would have ignored it) 2. Deciding to use Black Lives Matter for clout in a song not even remotely about it. 3. Marrying a disgusting, openly and violently transphobic Trump supporter all the while claiming to oppose Trump and support LGBT people. And following that up with reacting to the criticism by begging fan pages on Instagram not to talk about it. She didn't bother to say anything about it openly except that. But it tracks with her love for the cult preacher. 4. This bullshit. Her team is a reflection of her, acts on her behalf, is responsible to her. Clearly they ghosted the victim. And her manager is blocking people and deleting comments about it. She couldn't have known initially and that's important but her team is still fucked. But I will say I'll give her credit if she actually takes action on this at some point. Just bc YOU don't find any of that important doesn't mean I shouldn't.
  9. Liking Lana doesn't require glazing her or defending everything she does or not criticizing her. At this point, in at least past few years, she's done such fucked up shit that if it were anyone else, I wouldn't just not be a fan or, further, openly criticize her off the fan sites.
  10. If the media found out about this in a significant way, it would hurt Lana. People already think she glamorizes abuse. What will they say when they find out she hires people who engage in it with an inner circle that protects him?
  11. Do you sincerely mean that or are you just ragebaiting? Since you're coming off like a misogynist who thinks domestic abuse is okay. Lana's staff knowing what he did, ignoring it, and doing nothing means they have something to do with it. Also DV perpetrators often do it repeatedly. She has a restraining order.
  12. She has a restraining order but good job letting your fandom of Lana override solidarity with DV survivors.
  13. I do. And I used to defend her actions with Timothy. And regardless of that, I grew up and realized I shouldn't have done that and that are can be critiqued despite my feelings. I don't get bringing her up. Some people need to do the same with Lana Lana didn't know what happened but her staff do. And her staff are responsible to Lana. Lana doesn't bear all the blame but I do think she can be held responsible in part for the actions of her team.
  14. The role of the team is to protect and handle Lana Del Rey the artist and brand. Elizabeth Grant the person is responsible for everything involved in that brand. How the team handles things like this reflects on her as a person bc she created that brand.
  15. Awww. I like you too! She's not responsible for that, but she knows how really bad Ben and Ed are with a lot of things. And those two, or at least Ben, is responsible for blocking people for bringing it up. His reaction and the reaction of the people on her team - the ones she does have the ability to control to some degree - make her responsible in my eyes.
  16. I would tame a velocity raptor and keep her as my pet. I would name her Lucy. What would you do if your favorite video game or comic book or novel series became a TV show if it's not already?
  17. Imo: it's not Lana's fault bc she couldn't have known bc her team is consistently garbage. But it could be her fault debatably bc her team has always been garbage. You literally told someone they shouldn't be here...
  18. You know that people can be fans of someone while criticizing them and they don't even think that they need to be a good person for that to be true, @both of you.
  19. I kind of agree. Except she shouldn't talk about things she'll never actually release. Also her recent projects haven't been timeless. NFR! was timeless. COCC was a good Lana album though she should never have let her terrible friends be involved, but it wasn't timeless. Blue Banisters was a good Lana album but an album clearly not compiled with a vision or goal, just a bunch of songs tacked together and released, some of them with awful sound quality and some of them clearly taken from YouTube. Not timeless. Ocean Blvd was a mid Lana album but the good songs were almost flawless and collectively better than Blue Banisters. But the collaborations were awful and ruined the album. It felt like listening to a mixtape of her friends at times. Definitely not timeless. People care bc we're invested as fans.
  20. I totally agree. Nobody should expect anything from this unless it happens.
  21. Do you think that reflects on her? The lack of reaction, the constantly terrible people, etc ?
  22. The only time I have heard her be vocal about that is when it relates to her though.
