Rolling Stone reveals collaboration between Lana Del Rey and Brian Wilson
sjrq replied to Just Cherry's topic in Latest News
I suppose one could say "Driving In Cars With Boys" - the version with the high chorus - is a "Beach Girls" kind of song. -
She probably just wanted to add another year to make it in the music business before she got "too old". Nothing unusual about that; people in the entertainment industry have been lying about their age forever. Maybe it was intentional, maybe someone got the date wrong and she just went with it. Not being famous, she probably didn't think at the time anyone would ever even look into it.

Lana Del Rey Cancels Performance on David Letterman Show
sjrq replied to kingadam's topic in Latest News
Lana and The Wolverine will be in the green room together. I wonder if sparks will fly. -
There were thousands of well-behaved teenage girls at the Dallas show. I think just knowing you will have a chance to actually meet and touch a star like Lana Del Rey is going to bring out some serious competitive energy in people of any age. It's the chance of a lifetime, and no one wants to miss it. In any case, Lana is fortunate to have a fan base that is so young. She is going to have a long, rewarding career as her young fans stick with her, and that will keep the music and concerts coming for all of her fans for a long time to come.

It was perfect - 6500 people who stood up the entire time she was on stage and sang along on every song. Lana just doesn't have a connection to her fans, it is a conduit straight to our hearts. I've never seen anything like it She is literally like a goddess on stage who can do no wrong. I can't believe I'm even saying that, but it is oh so true.

Wonderful concert in Grand Prairie. We were up in the nosebleed seats, but Lana was beautiful, the band was great, and the vibe at Verizon, with thousands of Lana fans singing and screaming, was exciting and unforgettable. There was a lot of love in the air tonight in Dallas. I have no doubt she will fill the American Airlines venue when she comes back to perform here next time. The crowd couldn't have made more noise if Elvis himself was on the stage, I don't think.

Thanks for the link - and to think all of the haters think Lana is just a vacuous bimbo.

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
sjrq replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
There is a leaked song at Youtube that sounds like Lana called "In The Sun", but for some reason I can't copy and paste the link here. Could someone please link to it if it is genuine? Thanks. eta: Never mind. It was put up a month ago and some way, somehow, I missed it. -
Lana needs backup singers to do Off To The Races live, IMO. Not only would it sound more like the record, but they would give her a chance to catch her breath.

Come on guys, it's just rock and roll. "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" were both big hits by Britney Spears and Pat Benatar. -
I've never heard Lana speak with a New York accent, but it can be heard in her singing. For example, the way she says "dirty" in "Behind Closed Doors" is straight out of NYC. (I worked there for three years.) In the fadeout at the end of the song (behind closed doors, doors, doors, etc.), she clearly says "doas, doas, doas" with the almost silent "r", which is common to various degrees all over the northeast. (For those outside of the U.S., there are many, many accents in this country. If one drives up I-95 from NY to Massachusetts, the accents are much different and easily identifiable. Accents in Houston and Dallas are different, too. No one on the TV show "Dallas" sounds anything like they are from Dallas - not to me, anyway, and I've lived there.) Lana has great control of her voice, and the southern inflection she injects into some of her early songs is pretty much perfect. She doesn't overdo it, so it sounds smooth and natural.

I think the best song in the Black Beauty era leaks was "Hollywood", believe it or not. I still listen to it all the time. -
Lana said she picked the name "Lana Del Rey" at least in part due to the influence of some Cuban friends down in Florida, so that could be the connection. Maybe true, maybe she made it up....
-
edit: Now "West Coast" is at 12 on iTunes top singles.
-
It's at 19 in "Top Songs" right now.
-
Official or not, I'm still hear "Queens of Saigon" every time, and it does rhyme with "icon" better than "cyclones".
-
The Youtube video at at 558K views already.

Wonderful song, and I think Lana's performance of it at Coachella has permanently buried SNL. Now she is going to be a rock goddess, and I hope we don't lose her with all of the heightened expectations - not to mention temptations - that come with being a superstar.
-
Does anyone know who opened for Lana?
-
With any luck, Lana will sing "West Coast" tonight in Las Vegas and someone will record it on their phone and put it up on Youtube tonight.

That snippet sounds like "Songs of the Humpback Whales - on Acid". -

I wonder if this focus on the west coast means she won't be singing with her New York accent on "Ultraviolence"? -

Well, Lana said she used to live in Brooklyn.
