  1. A real 'N Sync reunion would have been fun and entertaining, so naturally MTV didn't do it. They try so hard to be "edgy" it is like watching a B movie in which something is always off enough it draws more attention to what is wrong than to what is right. I'm glad Lana didn't attend.
  2. What they can't stand is the indisputable fact that Lana is not only sweet to her fans, but she is just plain "cool". That can't be bought or manufactured. She is the real deal, and she is just getting started in Hollywood.
  3. Nothing wrong with Lana letting the public know she's back in the U.S. (hopefully for good).
  4. Lana's passion seems to be writing for movies, so I expect that is what she will be doing for a long time. There was a time when the best songs composed in America were sold to movies first, to be sung by people like Fred Astaire. (I have a CD by jazz singer and ex-pat Stacey Kent - she lives in France - of songs that were introduced in Fred Astaire movies.) I hope she will continue being a pop star as long as possible, but I thing she will end up doing music for Hollywood and its European counterparts eventually. If she gets nominated for an Oscar for "Young and Beautiful", I think it will help validate her in the U.S., and make her more comfortable performing here. I hope, anyway. If she wins, it could rehabilitate her image completely in the U.S., like it did Frank Sinatra back in 1954, who won Best Supporting Actor. Instead of being the singer who flopped on SNL, she'll be the Oscar winning singer and songwriter, Lana Del Rey. Forever.
  5. I wouldn't feel to bad about it. From the interview above: "I love to write, I love to record in the studio – that’s what I love." -Lana Del Rey
  6. SS #10 in Ireland, 1st week on chart.
  7. With Lana one always ends up reading between the lines, but I think she is referring to the American market. The choices for her two U.S. appearances were a small venue she knew she could sell out, and a music festival which was going to have a hundred thousand people attending whether she was there or not. A couple of safe picks for an act that had been selling out all over Europe. She mentions its been a long time since her album came out in the same breath as her "last" live committment, so I think she is concerned about creating buzz for an American tour. The new record could do that, especially if she actually got out and promoted it, but it has apparently been delayed. So, she feels she is kind of stuck, I think. She knows she needs to get moving before people forget about her because that is the way it works in the music business. For example, "Black Beauty" has maybe a total of 250K views on Youtube, while Miley Cyrus' latest single has over a hundred million. "Summertime Sadness" is a hit, but it would be hard for her to get out and promote it by doing live performances of the version that is climbing the charts. I suppose you could sum it up by saying Lana knows she needs to capture an American audience, but she just isn't in a position to do it right now. I personally think she has a lot more fans here than she thinks she does, and her fans could care less what the critics say. I don't think she understands while she is obsessing about new music, her fans just want to see her in person.
  8. Come on, Lana - you are a songwriting machine if there ever was one. Plus, I'll buy your next record the day it comes out, and I don't care what's on it. That said, I'm getting the vibe from this interview she has to produce another record, sooner rather than later. I hope I'm wrong about that because even a great songwriter like Lana Del Rey can't pull music out of the air on demand. She has to have time to wait for the spark. I hope she doesn't have to rush, but just her average songs meshed with her wonderful voice will keep her relevant for a long time.
  9. I'm torn between "Push Me Down" and "Out With a Bang".
  10. The dance version of SS has grown on me. They are playing it on 107.5 in Memphis, which means Lana has arrived. It is the first time I've ever heard one of her songs on the radio.
  11. I think she just wears the hat to keep her hair from blowing all over the place in her convertible.
  12. I've never seen any evidence that gays are any more or less predatory than non-gays. I've worked with many gays, and those who haven't and expect them to be different would find they are surprisingly "normal". They go to work, try to do a good job, then go home to their personal life just like their non-gay counterparts. The idea that people who are "different" are evil is just stupid and based on nothing. Don't fall for it. Of couse, generally it is a good idea to ignore anything you hear from Russian skinheads, or any other skinheads, as well.
  13. As long as Lana keeps writing and recording great music, I'm happy. I can't believe some of the things I've read in this thread; it's like a few members forgot Lana is the very same gal who recorded as May Jailer with a southern accent. She sings with a strong New York accent on many songs, yet when she talks I've heard it disappear. She doesn't mind playing a role, plus she has always been a little testy when interviewers skew towards her personal life, especially her past. Her idols are Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison; think about that for a second... I don't care if she is the sweetest girl or the biggest bitch on the planet, I just love her music. I also want to see her in concert in America, and she needs fans here to book concerts. I think if we love her for her singing and songwriting, she will love us back for it and book some concerts around the country. We don't want her to think her fans are so shallow they would dump her because she caught an interview with someone who wanted to concentrate on everything imaginable except for her amazingly successful European tour, huge album sales, and writing the words and music that made it all possible. Instead, the interviewer provoked her with questions about patriotism, politics, feminism, and her personal life. Lana responded to her with what seemed to be mostly a barrage of bullshit. Fine with me.
  14. Clearly Lana's family has money, and one would presume they have supported her career, but why wouldn't they? Not only does she clearly have oodles of talent, but it is abundantly evident in her body of work. Those close to her would have seen this as they watched her grow. She has always had a one-in-a-million upside, and it is still evident today. She just keeps getting better. As Lana said: "It's money and technology. Together we'd be deadly. You know the world is mean. Nothing is for free."
  15. I think Lana talks to her fans as if they are her friends. It seems like she tells fans the same thing she would tell Barrie and others in her inner circle, it's just that when things change, they find out about it but her fans don't. Why? Because when things change, like with these three songs, it may not just be a change from go to no go, it may be they decide to do two instead of three, just do one, do two but put them together, postpone them all to do something else, etc. By the time the dust settles, what she said one night in Europe is long forgotten.
  16. Just one last song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d6-TpWdoWg
  17. I would say "Puppy Love" is underrated, if anything. I think it has nice lyrics and an infectious hook for a song that was never released. This begs the question, how can a song that was never released be overrated?
  18. I just saw the trailer for "Dead Man Down", and I would love to hear Lana sing "Shine On Crazy Diamond".
  19. Hmm, I wonder what happened to the other two? (i want them now. ) I recall an interview in which she said she was doing music for three different movies, all of which take place in the 1920's.
  20. Lolita I know that I'm a mess with my long hair and my sun tan, Short dress, therapy. (bare feet) Go Go Dancer They call me Firecracker, an alcohol disaster. (and alcohol's a factor)
  21. It's probably syrup. I think she is saying, "You're golden grill, your purple drink". "Purple drank" aka "sizzurp" is made from codeine cough syrup and fruit punch or probably any other soft drink available. Abuse of this concoction is what put Lil Wayne in the hospital and ended up forcing number one overall draft pick Jamarcus Russel out of the NFL. Even if she does say "purple dream", this is probably what she is talking about.
  22. I have bought the albums on MP3 from Amazon. The only other thing I have is a picture she signed in London. I bought it about a year ago for 50 euros after watching her perform "Without You" at Amoeba on Youtube.

In the performance video, Lana doesn't quite make her own Lolita check list: Long hair - check Short dress - check Bare feet - check Sun tan - nope
  24. My pick would be "Backfire". To me, Lana's voice has never sounded more beautiful.
