Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

March will be the month things will begin again. I’m pretty sure. We already have a tease of her book with Happy. Wouldn’t be surprised if both the book and NFR got released at the same time. -

She said she was working on a Broadway with him. Probable she works with Rick when she doesn’t work with Jack. Don’t think he can « touch » the tracks as he / she pleases. -

All the songs from this record, so far, have haunting chord arrangements. Even Hope (it’s really subtle yet effective). All the melodies stick in my head for hours. Also, i’ve Rediscovered MAC over the last few days (VB kinda eclipsed it from my attention): what a fucking good songs! The lyrics are so beautiful and the melody is sublime. -

maybe she’ll « break tradition » and have the track at the end of the record? -

I honestly feel she just does what she wants after the big LFL era (big promo, big videos, big tour..). She wants to write and sing. Period. Plus the recording took some time with Jack being NY-based. About the happiness part, HIaB could be her new found answer on the matter: happiness is leaving and coming fast; in the meantime, enjoy your life. With LFL, she got caught up in a very intense period of super happiness : she was probably falling in love, recording something new, making peace with her past. But it didn’t last, it never does. I guess she didn’t want to sing about being peacefully in love (Yosemite) when she just got dumped by G-Eazy. I feel she needed to take some distance from the public spotlight, regather, and do what she wants, including in the promo (being minimal) of this era. -

She was visiting the children’s hospital, there was a radio interview and she was asked to sing Once Upon a Dream by one of the kids. She also started playing a few chords on the ukulele of a song she called Starry-Eyed. It was regally rough and she promised to finish it. I think there might still be a video on her Insta of her playing that. As for the chances of ending up on NFR, it’s anybody’s guess at this point. Did she really finish it (will somebody please think of the children!??)? -

Is she big enough to do that? The names you mentioned don’t need publicity to reach number 1. Lana... not so much. True, her albums are doing well over time, especially on the streaming services. But to surprise release an album, you have to be a big name I think. (Though i’d Love her to surprise release one at some point) -

Many female singers are releasing later this year. She could still release on a « quiet » week, and yet, I feel she missed her mark by not releasing the damn thing in the winter. -

My feeling is she might be adding one new song, like Hey Blue Baby since the response was overwhelmingly positive at the December benefit. I think her team and her might want to release both the poetry book together, thus taking more time. It's honestly been too long, though. -

We always have to take what she says with a grain of salt: she did say after all that HM was inspired by the golden age of jazz (I only hear " jazz inspirations" at the end the title track and Terrence). She did say that some NFR songs had some surf undertones to them, a bit of RHCP... I guess she refers to the end of MAC and the synths-guitars of VB. Maybe the synths of Cinnamon. But not fast-paced songs like RHCP have, maybe more the "beach feelings" that some of their songs have. Anyways, I associate Lana to ballads. Hey Blue Baby might be her fastest song, with Off to the Races. You're right. I was just thinking there might be a continuity between Get Free and NFR since Get Free ends up on such a high note, one you'd wish she'd revisit on the next album. But you made a valid point by saying MAC, lyrically, is sorta in the vein of Get Free and it is indeed a solid possible opener to NFR. -

Venice Bitch feels end of the album but not the last song. How to Disappear could be the closer. Or Yosemite if it makes the cut? Ever since January, I thought that In Your Car would open the album, followed by Mariners. But last week, something popped into my head: we know a lot of the last part of Happiness Is a Butterfly... but what about its beginning? What if it begins with a cool piano-driven intro and therefore, opens the album? And it could posisbly transition well between LFL's Get Free to NFR. But I really don't know. It's anyone's guess at this point. And i nver know where to put Cinnamon in the lot. -

We know that she is telling a grand story where each album is a chapter of her life. Is it possible the we caught up to her present timeline? It's easier to tell a story from a distance: we know what's important and what's not, making it more cohesive; when you are in the middle of a story, things are a bit more blurry. HM felt to me that it was inspired by past events. Plus we know she had the whole concept - mood in mind before embarking on the project. From what we gathered from the interviews, it seems that after the whole LFL chapter (tumultuous times in her life, the drama of the album itself and the tour afterwards), she wants to go her own pace and do what she likes / wants: so no promo, having fun inbetween sngwriting. Plus there's the fact that Jack is based in NYC and cannot be available 24-7 like Rick was. -

Yeah but is it for NFR? We know that she is working on a Broadway with Rick and that she works only a few days a month with Jack for the record. So maybe in the meantime she is doing another project with Rick? -

I don't think she wishes to go back to being unknown. She loves to work: whether it's music or poetry, she loves what she does. She also loves to perform live, to a certain extent (not a 3-year-long tour like she did at the beginning of her career). She doesn't like however to do the promotion part: the endless interviews and such. She hates having to explain what she meant by that song, or if it was inspired by her life. With the UV era, one reporter asked her if she indeed had fucked her way up to the top; like really? He's really gonna ask her that? I bet she got tired of it. She prefers to release songs and have us do the math or leave it to imagination. With the LFL era, she chose the mediums and magazines that don't put her down. With NFR, she also said that she did much of the interview part (lol) before Hope was released: I guess she didn't want to explain it and justify such personal lyrics. -

I had the feeling that with LFL, critics only heard it like a week before, on an iPod, to avoid all possible leaks... Anyways, that album was done like what? Two weeks before its release lol? -

I agree with you. If you want a surprise release, you do it all the way, not half-ass way like it would be with NFR at this point. -

Highly doubt it at this point. The ones that had the chance to listen to LFL months before its release were the reporters who did the magazine interviews. And well, I don't see many magazine interviews this time around. -

I don’t think it’s like that this time around (but who knows). If it’s the case, maybe she’ll do a « High by the Beach », which was the only « radio-ish single » of HM. I don’t know why, but I think that if she adds more songs, it’s probably one that is more « summery » since we are likely getting a summer release. -

Well she sure is vlogging her life these days. -
Her managers, in all the debacle yesterday, confirmed the poetry book would be sold worldwide (probably to avoid this)
