She might as well throw her on the track... "it's cry baby and eh-x-c-x charli"
-
I completely agree, but I think you might've missed my point in the sense Anne Marie released 2002 this year and therefore 1999 might feel like a less relatable imitation of it... Again, I was only joking ahaha,
-
Urgh that's so awkward, why didn't she sing about being a teenager and do a song called 2005? Y'know she could reminisce about being young and name drop musicians and include throwback hits into the lyrics... A song like that could've been a hit in 2018.

November 9th (with 2 shows in Japan to follow on 20th / 21st). Also a theory, what if in the video diary where she's running around screaming, what if she'd found out her label were gonna release an album? And that's why the monthly drops stopped after Girls Night Out to allow some hype to build?
-
I think it's just representative of an era, the XCX tag kinda marks her PC music phase (beginning with After The Afterparty and last being used on Pop 2) If the release is an album and not a mixtape etc. I think there will be a physical release - likely to be CD and LP, unsure if the album will be promoted / available worldwide like Sucker though.
-
How do you mean, KILLED it? And I think it's extremely unlikely that this album will get a Target exclusive etc. Likely to be one edition, with one tracklist (no bonus tracks etc.), her last 3 releases (Vroom Vroom, Number 1 Angel and Pop 2) weren't even available on CD, despite there being demand from fans. There doesn't seem to be a demand for deluxe editions of albums anymore - I know Atlantic are pushing a deluxe edition of Rita Ora's Phoenix, however she hasn't released an album for 6 years, meaning there's a demand from her fans. Also 6 out of 12 tracks on the standard edition are hit singles (an advantage Charli doesn't have) therefore the deluxe edition seems to be for fans who have been waiting so long for new material.
-
Ah nice, sorry I must have missed that. Well then if the version we are getting has Troye featured then I think that should be the only version released... cos I agree with KillForLove, having 2 versions out at once would be lethal for her streaming numbers.
-
I think it would be cool and wise if 1999 is the lead single, to start off the campaign with a creative direction - for example the slime / futuristic style is for the monthly drops and the XCX logo hasn't been used since the mixtapes (other than for After The Afterparty and Boys). I think a new logo and a new style would give the upcoming era some identity so it doesn't feel confused with the previous releases. I'd rather her release 1999 as a solo single (is Troye even confirmed?) and then if a version does exist with Troye they could drop it as a remix to gain momentum before the album?
-
I think everything will be fresh, I think that we can expect a new creative direction in terms of artwork / imagery / logo etc. And I believe we can expect a pop record (with very few if any PC music elements).
-
I absolutely believe that Boys will be on the album, purely for streams and appeal of another song people will recognise. I don't think any of the XCX World leaks will be on the new album, I'm imagining new material and potentially the tracks she played for fans at the Spotify event (White Mercedes, Blame It On Your Love and obviously 1999).
-
I don't believe she'll have a hit this era, but her last single as a lead artist to make top 40 was After The Afterparty, so it would be nice if she could make the charts again. And I reckon if an album is on the way it will be much more mainstream pop compared to her previous releases in order to appeal to the GP, so songs like Boys and Blame It On Your Love wouldn't be out of place. I also think that we should care if we want her to release an album, drop singles, release music videos and tour more often. And part of me does believe that Charli cares, like people pointed out she was upset that True Romance bombed and with Sucker she did get 2 hit singles plus hit collabs - so to then be unable to reach that success again after her sophomore record will have had an effect on her.
-
I just think that it would appeal more to the GP than say songs like Taxi or Girls Night Out etc. and at this point it's chart success she needs. I agree that Track 10 is superior but it would be nice to have the 'original' too.
-
Also excited to hear that 1999 is being promoted as a single rather than a monthly drop. Really excited to see and hear the direction of the new project - also wouldn't be mad if Blame It On Your Love and Boys make the cut; Boys purely for the streaming numbers. Unlikely but imagine if she announced 1999 alongside an album pre-order. I really think a shorter campaign is what's needed at this point.

But when exactly was it confirmed that the album was shelved pre-leak?

From what we've seen it seems Atlantic are quite comfortable with her not releasing an "album" as such - that way they get to keep her as an artist and a writer, allowing her to release EPs, mixtapes and singles without fulfilling her contract and ultimately moving on. I can see why fans are sceptical about an album release, however I think a project of some sort will be released in 2019 to keep momentum going.

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Hmmm, I wouldn't be so sure, it's evident that with Lust For Life (the only record she's delayed and changed repeatedly thus far) something wasn't quite right and she was finding her feet with this lighter tone and more hopeful lyrics. After hearing Mariners Apartment Complex and Venice Bitch, and her confirming that 11 tracks are complete, I believe that this record is very much finalised sonically. -
I'm still confused about the whole scrapped XCX World concept? Why do people believe the album was scrapped before it was leaked? After The Afterparty was released in October 2016 with the album to follow in May 2017, correct? The single underperformed and they clearly went on to revise the tracklist, but Charli continued to talk about the record publicly, even performing Bounce (arguably the most experimental track on there) live on TV. Even around the time of the Exchange show, she confirmed the album was very much a thing, announcing which songs wouldn't be featured and which may be on the track list. Continuing to talk about the album whilst recording and promoting Number 1 Angel - describing them as ying and yang to one another and suggesting that Number 1 Angel was an introduction to the album (at this time I assume songs like Boys and No Angel etc. were being added). Boys was released as the second (or new lead) single from the record in July, with the release date of September being announced by Charli and her team. And then a full version of the record leaked in August... When exactly did the label shelve the record pre-leak? It also doesn't make sense that the label weren't happy with the end product. Vroom Vroom tracks were obviously too experimental for the album, but we've seen now that the artwork and logo design etc. was all finalised late 2016 or early 2017. Surely if the label weren't supportive of the record, they wouldn't have allowed it to go that far ahead? Also, why would Charli be so upset (even calling out the hackers this year when performing Taxi) that fans got to hear the record if she knew beforehand that it was shelved? Surely she'd be pleased that fans got to hear what she intended to release if the label were trying to stall the release.

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

I agree, in the sense that the Ultraviolence trailer was just footage from the West Coast and Shades Of Cool music videos - and Honeymoon was behind the scenes of the album shoot. However the Lust For Life trailer didn't match the aesthetic of the record, I really wish she's fulfilled the space and witch themes more in the lyrics and artwork. -
Do we actually believe that Taxi was going to be released? Surely if that was the case and she had the authorisation from the label then she would've dropped it in August? Or even as a b-side to Girls Night Out.
-
I always wonder about the Sucker era... Did she suddenly have a change of heart and decide to push Doing It as a single (to appeal to the charts and become more pop) or was it the labels decision? Cos she went full pop with XCX World. I also think that Sucker is much more Charli than True Romance, lyrically songs like Doing It and Famous etc wouldn't sound out of place on XCX World.
-
Atlantic see Charli XCX and Rita Ora, other artists struggling / struggled to release non-debut albums through the label
-
So was Blame It On Your Love recorded for some version of XCX World? I'm trying to work out how many songs were considered for each variation of the album... For example: Her teasing Vroom Vroom as the lead single from the record in 2016. Hey Boy, Hey Girl was confirmed to be on the album, however at the Exchange show it was scrapped... Same situation with Taxi (even though she never spoke it about). Then there was obviously the 2017 version which would've included Boys and I'm assuming No Angel (a song she was unsure about at the Exchange show)
-
I really hope that some of newer stuff has a bit more depth, like I enjoy the party stuff but I miss emo Charli - like True Romance / Caught In The Middle / Lucky for example.
