  1. I actually love this. I think longer songs are more well-developed and constructed, with interesting and complex melodies i compared with most 3-minute-lenght songs. That's what I feel about her last two albums, which are made of mostly long songs. I think her lyrics are kinda basic sometimes, the chorus of mostly songs on Ultraviolence was made on repetition on the song-title, but the melodies behind all this was always rich and intriguing. I really enjoy a long opening with instrumentals and then a song where you can feel everything that's going on with a beautiful closure and not a rushed one, which is different from 3-minute-length songs that have to be short to be played on radio. But I'm an exception here, I love Honeymoon and all that it contains. After Ultraviolence, it is undoubtedly my favourite record.
  2. I got it as a gift in 2013! I don't know where the person got it from, though...
  3. i am laughing so hard at this
  4. West Coast - 1.256 Born to Die - 1.240 National Anthem - 1.117 My last.fm profile shows it all: http://www.last.fm/user/WKing500
  5. I'm pretty sure there are other moments where this pattern exists, but I don't recall any other right now. If someone has noticed it, post it here!
  6. I don't know if you guys ever realized that, but the Honeymoon instrumentals (and vocals) play a lot around the "time present and time past are both perhaps present in time future" theme (and some people here even say the Burnt Norton interlude is useless in the album, when, in fact, it's a major role in the understandment of the album themes) which I believe is a central role in the album and the thoughts Lana put in its creation. Like, if you listen to "Music to Watch Boys to" you can hear, right in the beggining, that the chorus without instrumental goes forward, while, in the back sound, the echoes are played backwards. We have this again in "High by the Beach" with the vocals being played going high and being repeated right after backwards and that goes throughout the entire song, everytime these "scream" (yawns? I don't know how to describe it) appear. The instrumental itself is also going forward and backwards sometimes. Art Deco brings it again, with the trip beats in the beggining being played forward and backwards. The instrumental in Burnt Norton is essencially this. Played forward and backwards, forward and backwards, giving the feeling of an endless loop. At the end or Religion the beats slow down to bring Salvatore, where the flutes are first going up and in a second beind played in reverse. And the best of all, right in the beggining you have the sound of a man crying compulsively, which is repeated a lot of times. The cry itself lenghts less than a second, but they repeat it like, 9 times, so it seems like a continously cry. At the end of the bridge, when the violins rise again (at the end of the piano part) you can see that the cry is now going up, like a laugh, 'cause they're playing it backwards. God, it's fu**ing amazing. This part is more notorious if you listen to the instrrumental isolated, you can find it in here: . I listened some of the same pattern in the Swan Song instrumental, but right now I'm not remembering to tell you especifically. Overall, that's just shows how Lana is a fu**ing incredible artist, how everything is planned and she is really focused in materializing an idea, a thought, a belief in what she creates. It's simply overwhelming. P.S.: I copied it from the "your fav instrumentals" thread 'cause I have never read someone discussing this before and I'd like for more people to know about it!

  8. Hey, I loved reading about your experience. I think it's so enriching to share these thoughts and feelings, and just to imagine Lana is the one who lights the fire and units these reflections in us is simply too beautiful to me. By the way, @FourAlarmFire contacted me in private to discuss about religions, beliefs and philosophies! Would you like to join us? I'm kinda new around the community, so I don't know if there's a tool that allows us three to talk simultaneously, so if you would be kind to do it for me it would be great!
  9. Can someone post it here all the three versions of Pin-Up we have now? I would like to listen and compare them.
  10. OH, THIS IS INTERESTING. I have a Lana tattoo on my wrist. It's written, basically, Lana Del Rey, I'll post a picture here in a minute. The first spiritual consult I had, I was wearing a jacket, so my wrist was not exposed. The entity looked and me told me "you carved her name there, let me touch it." I FREAKED OUT, exposed my wrist and offered my arm. The woman said "I feel how important she is to you, and you would be impressed if you knew how much you lived together, in other days. She is here now to help a lot of people, that's why she's not close to you anymore, and it makes you sad, because you misses her presence and the music is the way you found to keep her close. Don't worry, she misses you as well." You guys, you have simply no idea how that was. I listen to Lana compulsively, I think I might be one of the top listeners in last.fm. For the past five years she has been with me every single day and I feel something I really can't explain. To listen to that was like something finally got clear to me, these intense feelings that almost anguish me and the way she simply moves me around my life, helping me build myself and change myself. I wonder that, if we were close... What did we were? Friends? Lovers? Son/mother father/daughter?
  11. Ok, I'm not a native english speaker, so this may be hard to explain, but I'll try (if I don't make myself clear, tell me and I try to write again in different words) For a year now I've been a part of a religion that mixes spiritism and aborigenes entities, which were a very wise folk in their days. Our cult is based on spiritual contact, with mediums that estabilish contact with them so they can talk to us through them. I often frequent spiritual consult, where an entity talks directly to me, trying to clarify my obstacles, difficulties in this life and what I have lived in lifes past that somehow have influence in this one, such as in my behaviours and feelings, for example. It's really peaceful and deep, sometimes they ask us to do some exercises to relax our mind and open ourselves more to their leadership and guidance. This is just the base, but there's a lot more if you want to deep your knowledge. I was an atheist for some years and never thought I would someday believe that something bigger than us existed, but the experiences I had there changed me completely, mind and soul. Sometimes I think Lana would enjoy being close to that (that is, if she hasn't done it yet, 'cause we know she's close to indian causes and philosophies)... It's really thoughtful, it's a belief based in philosophy, science and the concept of universe, time, existence is approached deeply so we can come to understand a little bit more of how this universe was built and what role we are playing in here by living.
  12. GOD, YOUR DREAMS ARE FREAKY AWESOME! hahahaha i'm laughing so hard at this, it's the best topic ever. This one was kinda freaky to me. I have been going through some tough moments in my life and I believe/have contact with some spiritual entities often. So, one night when I was having a hard time falling asleep I asked this entity that's close to me to help me feel good again, to send me some sign or help anyhow. I went to sleep and dreamt of Lana the entire night. It was bizarre, 'cause I normally don't dream much. It's like it was really sent to me. In the dream, me and Lana just talked. We were in a room and I believe this was a way of this "entity" sending me messages I had to listen at that moment, and the Lana image was just the person to channel these messages (please, don't laugh at this, I'm serious!! hahaah). After all, I woked up better and got this weird feeling about that night that is still stuck in my head. P.S.: When I asked her, in the dream, about the new record, all she told me was that she had to drive some courage and have "balls" to write it. She said it would be really surprising.
  13. GOOOOOOOOOOSH WHERE IS THE RECORD INFORMATION, B*TCH
  14. I had never heard this before, but it's fuc**ing awesome! Would love these vibes too.
  15. Oh my God, apparently she's always introduced to you guys during high-school or college there. Here in Brazil she's not famous, actually the schools/college is more focused on Brazilian literature (which is very rich too, I'm fascinated by it). It's so awesome to see that lots of people know her, including at some young ages. She's really incredible. The only novel I've read was "The Bell Jar", it made me reflexive and in a melancholic mood for a long time so I decided to take a time before going to another one. If I connect my mindset to a depressive mood for a long time things can get out of hand and be hard to go back to a "productive" state. Even my parents noticed I was affected by the book. I'll look after the other novels, I'm eager to read them now
  16. i'm dying here! Gimme me the leaks!! hahaha
  17. Hey, guys. I searched but didn't find a topic discussing this, so I decided to open one up. Do you guys know Sylvia Plath? She was an American poet and novelist from the 20th Century. Her work is really reflexive, melancholic and says so much of what Lana atests, I bet the reads her hahaha. She has way with words that is almost as touching as Lana songs to me. If you like poetry and are unaware of her writings, check it out. Here is a poem that I'm very fond of. Hope you like it She wrote it when she was 14 years old. I thought that I could not be hurt by Sylvia Plath "I thought that I could not be hurt; I thought that I must surely be impervious to suffering- immune to pain or agony. My world was warm with April sun my thoughts were spangled green and gold; my soul filled up with joy, yet felt the sharp, sweet pain that only joy can hold. My spirit soared above the gulls that, swooping breathlessly so high o'erhead, now seem to to brush their whir- ring wings against the blue roof of the sky. (How frail the human heart must be- a throbbing pulse, a trembling thing- a fragile, shining instrument of crystal, which can either weep, or sing.) Then, suddenly my world turned gray, and darkness wiped aside my joy. A dull and aching void was left where careless hands had reached out to destroy my silver web of happiness. The hands then stopped in wonderment, for, loving me, they wept to see the tattered ruins of my firma- ment (How frail the human heart must be- a mirrored pool of thought. So deep and tremulous an instrument of glass that it can either sing, or weep)." P.S.: If somehow I violated the site rules or posted it in the wrong place, forgive me (and tell me about it hahaha)! I'm still having a little trouble getting used to the community
  18. Oh my God, Currents is mindblowing. One of the richest records of 2015. I would love that influence.
  19. That. Honeymoon is truly the most consistent and most beautiful/touching album she's put out yet. It impresses me how she's always capable to overcome her previous records (which are flawless, to me, in every way), making a new album that's even more overwhelming than the one before everytime. I had this feeling with Ultraviolence and Honeymoon. Back in 2012 I swore to God she would never be able to put out something as sensitive and as perfect as Born to Die was.
  20. That is one of the most heartmelting videos she's ever made. I literally cry a little bit watching it everytime...
