This is going to be a bit long and personal and dramatic, but Lana's music and lyrics did a lot for me lately and acknowledging it in writing is a way to say thank you!
-
Oh god I'm like one of the 'come to my country people' I asked if she's gonna have an actual concert in London because every time she played here you had to freaking win the tickets and I'm not lucky so . Then I asked some boring stuff about her writing (specifically, if she writes other stuff apart from songs too and if she thinks she'll ever publish anything) to connect our writer souls.

Her abusive mentioning of Diet Coke/Cola/Cherry Cola/Pepsi has to go in here! Pepsi and Cola should both compete in giving her free drinks or something to pay her back for all the marketing :badbitch:

I think Lana simply doesn't adhere much to feminism, but I agree that is not anti-feminist in itself. The only sort of 'anti-feminist' song of hers I can think of is 'This Is What Makes Us Girls' and the quotes like the one Maru mentioned - I think she's sort of projecting her own feelings and attitudes as a girl into what all of us are supposed to be, which of course some women will disagree with because not all of us enjoy being told to "shut up, I got this". If it's right or wrong that Lana or other women like her think this way, it's not my place to tell - I think in a small dose it can be fun, especially when you're young and all, but it can turn much uglier. However, coming back to anti-feminism, I think Lana just gets a bit carried away with her lyrics and art sometimes and starts saying stuff like [that quote], but I'm sure she is aware it's her own view and she just likes putting these feelings and attitudes in her songs. I think 'tumblr feminists' just have to face that not everyone has the same ideas and standards like them. In a perfect world, everything would be politically correct and it's good to try to 'educate' on this subject, just without imposing their perspective when they don't understand where women like Lana come from.

I went from "is this guy using the same gif in all his posts, wtf" to "no, it's probably his signature" and now back to, oh he actually did . Reminds me of gagadaily

Is it wro-wrong that I think it's kinda fun When I scratch you on the back of your hand with a paw? My daddy's in the hall on his brand new mat I really want it back, but I'm sadly just a cat
-
That would make much more sense! I never thought very highly of that line before, but now I feel that I'm 'getting' it better was the same with 'the ghost in your machine' in She's Not Me.

reading this just made me horny.

I really wanted to wait for the full songs but I figured I won't remember much of the snippets if I just listen to them once! People's opinions made me curious/kind of scared it's gonna be terrible, but I liked what I heard . I never really liked Body Electric lyrically, but I always liked the sound of it, it's still awesome. I knew and loved Ride, Burning Desire and Blue Velvet already. Not crazy about what she did to Yayo, but it might grow on me (I realize my brain might be 'NOPE'-ing because it's so different than the version I knew). The other songs seem really okay on the first listen, I love Bel Air already! (I wrote this while listening to the snippets so excuse my lack of coherence )

LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
Poison Ivy replied to Sitar's topic in Lana Thoughts
I don't think she would romanticize and cherish the idea this way if she actually was in a lolita-esque relationship. Maybe we're very different people, but in my own experience it's something I cringe over and try to forget it actually happened. -

My Lana COLLECTION: I'm poor
-
According to last.fm, which sometimes stops working for weeks at a time and ignores some songs no matter how much I tag them: Born to Die: Video Games AKA: Yayo Sirens: My Momma Unreleased: Puppy Love Demos: Radio (Demo) Collabs: Gloria (feat Mando Diao) although it's more their song and all but I love it and probably replayed it desperately
-
1: When did you first discover Lana Del Rey - Around a year ago (I think?) when the Born To Die video came out. I used to dislike her for some reason (it often happens that I first dislike artists I end up loving, so I suppose it became a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point). 2: What was the first song that made you fall in love with her music - Well, Born To Die was the first I heard (in the video) and I kept shamefully raping the replay button every time I had the chance because the song was so addicting. Then I got over my 'hate', downloaded the whole album and holy shit I fell for her hard. 3: Favorite Lana hairstyle - BIG, I love her big hairstyles or those slight curls of hers in her more relaxed hairstyles. Oh yes and I like her as a redhead the most, all shades of red worked great. 4: Favorite live performance - I never got into watching her live performances much (I've seen a few, but I want to see her live myself) so I can't really choose. 5: Favorite lyric - THIS IS HARD. "And there's no remedy, for memory, your face is like a melody/ it won't leave my head" but really the whole Dark Paradise is so brilliant lyrically. 6: Would you make out with Lana if you had the chance to? Oh yes. Hard. 7: Favorite facial feature - Well it's not really a facial feature per se, but she looks so amazingly cute when she smiles, she has a very sweet smile so I'll go for this. 8: What's one thing you don't like about Lana? There are some things I morally disagree with a bit, but they're a bit long-winded and it's not necessarily something I don't like about her. 9: Have you ever met Lana? No 10: Who's you favorite artist after Lana? Johnny Cash/The Ronnettes/Amy Winehouse 11: Would you say you're obsessed or just a really big fan? Big fan. 12: What if Lana was secretly an evil zombie would you still love her? 'Course, that'd be two of us.

Yeah, that's what I mean! As soon as I "got to know" Lana better I never associated her with all that again, but ehh I guess I should be thankful they introduced me to Lana to begin with in their own way.
-
Ha, well I think I first heard of Lana on tumblr/gagadaily around a year ago or so and only watched Born To Die with the young tattooed guy who looks like the type typical-tumblr loves and I just kind of associated Lana with the places I first heard of her (which I dislike in terms of their tastes generally). Otherwise, I guess I didn't like the video overall and the 'sk8r boi' guy just added this over-polished hipstery look to it while Ride feels very raw and those men feel very 'real'. Of course, it was my loss to hold that opinion about Lana for a little while - till I fell in love with her music, pretty soon after that - but I'm still not a fan of the BTD video. tl;dr version: I prefer raunchy old men over pretty boys
-
I quite like Match Made in Heaven and read somewhere on here that she made it like that to make fun of popular music/Kesha or something If Lana used men like the Ride ones in the BTD video I would have taken her seriously a lot sooner.
-
And I said: how do you spend your nights, honey? - the live version of Trash kills me generally, it always did. And Dark Paradise, everything about it. There's a lot more but I fear that I'll start to mention bits I love of every song and make this post crazy-long

LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships

^ Sounds like something we'd like to hear. -
I loved this one from the first second of it, this just doesn't happen ever but it's so beautiful and sad with the way it's sang

Would Lana be as well-liked if she wasn’t attractive?
Poison Ivy replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
Hilariously enough, I never found her attractive at all before I started loving her music. Now I think she's a babe but I don't think she's a 'standard' beauty, there's just something about her.
