In the month of the disappearance of the Malaysian airline, Lady Gaga's GUY video featured a brunette phoenix falling from the sky, before being resurrected as a blonde in Hollywood. At the same time, Lana Del Rey was photographed diving into the waters of Marina Del Rey for her "West Coast" video.

Ingmar Bergman's Persona (1966) is the story of two girls, one blonde, one brunette, who in reality are only one girl. Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana (2006) is the story of one girl who masquerades as two girls, Hannah Montana and Miley Stewart. Gaga and Lana are likewise two hemispheres of a single archetypal feminine principle; one which directs itself outward into phenomenal play (being "born this way" and fashionable), one which directs itself inward into melancholy reflection (dye your hair a darker shade, to suit the mood of your soul). Only one of these personae can be So Legit.

Therefore, whenever Gaga goes brunette, it only figures that she would then start to mimic her brunette alter-ego.

I sincerely doubt that Lana covered Leonard Cohen as an ode to Gaga..

yes. There's a dude behind the scenes pulling the ropes , making Lana and Jazzy Gaga move around and write songs.

Nothing to do with Jazz being a trend for almost 4 years now or Gaga being, prior her pop days, a jazz influenced artist. Nothing to do with that, it's for certain someone pulling the ropes

YES. lana is not a role model, she isn't here to tell you how to think or feel, she doesn't have to do anything 'right and correct' for you. she's simply an artist who's telling her life story and sharing her feelings. the whole think is so fucked-up because everybody is judging lana for feeling unhappy and thinking it would be much easier for her if she was dead. depression is a mental illness you can't control so a few 'pls lana stop glamorizing death you're so talented and have so much ahead of you!!!!1' sentences don't help her at all. if lana feels like she wants to live a wild life and die young, she has the right to. if she's scared of death, there is nothing wrong of it too. everybody has their own personal relationship with death and we can't tell anybody shit about it.

    smh.

    ugh
lana obviously struggles with depression and believe me, the 'you know only one life!!! live it!!' cliche doesn't help
i get that she's upset about how everybody glamorizes the death of her father but she doesn't have the right to tell ppl how to feel about death.

It's not poorly produced at all.

I like all tracks across both albums, but Perfectionist was honestly overproduced

I dont think anyone really gives a fuck what "other people" will think, most of all her. She is bashed already, she'll be bashed some more, just another day in Lana-land tbh.

Umm , it's cute . It certainly has potential but I don't want Florence to colaborate with the likes of Calvin Harris. My favourite songs of hers are Howl , Heartlines and Never Let Me Go

I can't believe I forgot to mention Video Games. It was the first Lana song I ever heard, and when I first heard it, I wasn't entirely sure what the appeal was. But listening to it on a more frequent basis, it has become one of my favourites. One thing I love about Lana is her idea of honouring lost love. I'm a huge believer in still caring for and respecting someone you loved who you aren't with anymore, and I feel like this song is the epitome of that. She turns the simplest of things (getting undressed, playing video games, etc) into this simple love melody. As well as all the big things in life, I like to remember details, no matter how mundane they are, and I think people forget how much happiness can be had from just simply sitting around all day playing video games with the person you love most in the world. To me, the simplicity sold it to me. It's quite a stripped song, compared to most others on BTD, but I love that. You can hear the haunting sadness at the same time as understanding her love for this person. I just feel a really strong connection with it, and of course, it was the gateway into my Lana Del Rey obsession.

What are your favorite Lana songs and why? I'm really interested in reading about everyone's overall favorites, since we only have threads about favorites per album. She has so many more songs than what's been officially released and I'm curious to know what you guys rank above everything else out of her huge discography! I'll put my favorites below. Let's discuss.

I only wrote about my top five favorites because I don't want to spend another 30 minutes typing, but don't limit yourself to five if you don't want to! Long responses are encouraged, I love reading other fans' perspectives. I swear.

"The Alexa bag was born in January 2010, inspired by Chung, and today it's all about Lana Del Rey, because Hill's interest was piqued when she saw Video Games on YouTube. "The way her brain worked felt very similar to the way my brain works," says Hill. The two met, and the result was £4,500 of white ostrich Del Rey bag; a classic shape, deconstructed, with gold hardware."
