Ohhhh okay I thought it was a pap pic. Fair enough then -
Yeah it says on the site that you just need to use a new payment method from that country, but she tried it and it didn't work. Maybe it works differently in this instance because it's an actual ban on Russia Anyway I will contact their support later and explain the situation and maybe they will let me pay for it from here for her, or something. Thx

I've been avoiding this thread tbh because I was getting too doomscrolly But anyways my friend is still in Kyiv; the only place they could've gone was Belarus and of course they didn't want to. She's still okay though (as "okay" as you can be in that situation). Other news I heard (idk if it has been widely reported): - FSB agents have been found among the "refugees" fleeing to Poland and other countries (not shocking at all, and I'm also not surprised they found them because in my experience they're not at all inconspicuous ... typically, stern-looking men usually in dark-coloured trenchcoats carrying briefcases . Very easy to pick out at least when I was in Russia but anyways) - McDonald's and Starbucks have left, but will continue to pay their workers. The former's exit is very symbolic because the McDonald's that opened in Moscow in the late 80s/early 90s was very symbolic of the downfall of the Soviet Union. - Senior politicians in the United Russia party (Putin's party) have declared that all of these companies leaving is an "act of war" and they're planning to take their factories and nationalise them. Nike and Ford said they dgaf and they simply won't return if that happens. - Does anyone know about changing countries with Spotify? Has anyone done this? One of my Russian friends is really not coping with all this, she has fled to Estonia and she's pretty isolated. She's very into music and Spotify is banned (or will be) in Russia, and her account is Russian. I tried looking it up but I'm dumb - does anyone know what you need to do to change your country on there? She needs her music. I can't work out if she needs a whole new account or

"Woman has lunch with friend" I hate pap pics of people EATING like that must be so uncomfortable for the person. I wonder if she ever feels like throwing a sammich at them Fr though Jen seems like a really genuine friend, and I'm so glad she has her -
I love that I came into this thread and every single post I read is about some fucked up pregnancy bullshit and then there's this ily

I'm not sure tbh she just put a post up saying they were hoping to leave the city Said she'd update everyone later so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly

I know! Ukrainian women marching up to Russian soldiers who are armed to the teeth and yelling at them, people standing in front of tanks holding Ukrainian flags, etc Total badasses and I'm absolutely sure that type o' shit makes Putin so mad, which is a bonus. I read that Putin told the Turkish President that he'd only stop if the Ukrainians stopped fighting, and that is never gonna happen

Apparently they have opened some more humanitarian corridors, including out of Kyiv, and my friend and her family are going to try to leave Anxious af

Okay sorry for misunderstanding. Zelenskyy, as I said, allowed Azov to be absorbed into his military, but I think it was a "common enemy" kind of thing. I'm not defending it or saying that it was the correct decision (in fact, by all accounts, it's come back to bite the Ukrainian government on the arse), I'm just saying that there is no evidence that Ukraine is full of Nazis.
-
WTF? Full offence but you seem misinformed af. Putin isn't accusing Zelenskyy of being a Nazi. The prime minister is also Jewish, the Ukrainian government also has strong ties to Israel, and for all its faults, it's difficult to see Israel supporting a state of Nazis, don't you think? Putin referring to the far right whose battalions helped fight against the separatists in Donbas and Crimea. The Ukrainian government absorbed them into their armed forces because they didn't want to concede any more territory, but we're talking about 1000 soldiers max (not that it makes it OK to turn a blind eye to far right extremism, but this idea that Ukraine is dominated by Nazis is, as I said earlier, nonsense). The far right - ALL far right parties combined - received less than 3% of the vote in Ukraine's 2019 elections. I guess it's a matter of who and what you want to believe but all I have to say is that the suppression of independent media and promotion of propaganda in Russia is well-known, and it's an authoritarian capitalist state. I have been to Russia twice, I've experienced and seen it with my own eyes. Even the airport was filled with bullshit RT billboards in English about the US, etc (and I couldn't even take any photos because airports in Russia are considered areas of strategic military importance and it isn't allowed). We had to sign forms saying we wouldn't criticise Putin or his government. We were followed by the FSB because we were foreigners. And then there are the accounts of the Ukrainians and Russians who are my friends and every single one of them is saying the same thing - that this war is based on bullshit and is going to ruin both of their countries. Russia is FAR closer to a Nazi regime than Ukraine is, at this point in time. Maybe it was different in 1940, but it isn't now.
-
I have to go to work so I'll write more later but Zelenskyy is literally Jewish so this is an interesting take And if Ukraine is full of nazis then Russia sure as fuck is
-
Putin can do whatever he wants in Russia (which is unfortunate for the people of Russia, but this is how the concept of countries works).
-
I just find it interesting that people continue to cite NATO as the reason for the invasion when Putin himself is not saying that - his reason continues to be "denazification" And denazification is nonsense (as previously outlined in this thread) so it's clear that he's just trying to find an excuse to bend Ukraine to his will. If anyone is behaving like a nazi, it's Putin with his endless stream of propaganda and aggression. And I can't believe people are defending that. Fuck the reason, quite frankly. Ukraine has never made any incursions into Russia, only the reverse is true.
-
I'm not sure what you mean by "overrating" I mean this is affecting people's lives in Ukraine and Russia (and Belarus and the countries taking refugees) to a huge extent. The moment you start letting a dictator dictate is the moment you lose your integrity and freedom. Not Russia's decision whether or not Ukraine joins NATO, never was, never will be. Fuck that and fuck him

They're right and they should say it

Further to what I said in my last post: these prospective soldiers are being told that it's a "special operation", that it won't last long, and that it doesn't involve civilians. One of the problems Putin has is that these soldiers are arriving in Ukraine and finding out that those things are not true. This is one theory as to why the convoy to Kyiv has stalled. I'd like to think that he wouldn't try to attack a NATO country but he's a megalomaniac who is being cornered. He is losing support domestically, his friends are mad at him because all their stuff is being taken away, and many Russian soldiers don't want to hurt Ukrainian civilians - they are friends and family.
-
Many people thought he wouldn't attack all of Ukraine, either, but here we are Apparently he's throwing big bucks at young Russians to go fight, and people are saying he purposely picked now to do it because many Russians (like everyone else) have taken a financial hit due to rona

Maybe I will https://www.facebook.com/luba.petrusha/posts/10160188600827847

So anyways Putin just said the Western sanctions are akin to a declaration of war which sounds very much like it could be an excuse to invade other countries Would not shock me at all Someone needs to take him out, legit

Yes! It's very good. Most people think a book about a nuclear reactor would be boring as fuck but it's not at all technical, it's about human perspectives.
-
If you (or anyone else) ever wants to read a really good book about Chernobyl, nuclear reactors and the Soviet Union, I highly recommend Voices from Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich. It's one of my favourite non-fictitious books. Basically, she interviewed many people involved in the disaster and each chapter is that person's account of what happened. Wives of first responders, elderly people living in the exclusion zone, soldiers, scientists, doctors, etc. I have always been interested in the history of the Russian empire and Soviet Union and I first read it when I was about 11, and have re-read it many times since. Fascinating (albeit sad). I think there was a HBO series based on the book but I've never gotten around to watching it.
-
Yeah and (less serious) but he's also blocking many socials including Facebook. Russians being force fed propaganda with no opportunities to read other perspectives Can someone novichok his blini, please
