Yeah, and TerrenceLovesYou have also noted how often I bring her up...their careers really bleed right into one another, time-wise.
I'm not a great fan of FTCGH but BFP is one of my all-time favorite albums, my favorite of Amos's albums, and SW is just beautiful. Having been working in Manhattan on 9/11, I have great appreciation for it. I also love 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin,' and 'The Beekeeper,' while not cohesive, is a great combination of pure pop songs and much heavier material.
Glad you're a fan.

i feel like, at the beginning of her career when she said “all of my music is 100% autobiographical” or whatever that quote was, people took it the wrong way. you can make art that is 100% about your life and still use metaphors or references to other things to talk about your actual experiences, that doesn’t mean you’re lying, it just means you’re making art which isn’t always supposed to be taken literally or at face value. she used to do that a lot. or she could’ve just been flat out lying she also did used to do that a lot lmao

I'm wondering if this is the BB slander thread or still LDR9 pre- pre-release thread
Nah seriously BB gets hated & dragged on here on a daily but like dragging it every day won't make LDR9 any better. I get the wish for a different richer sound & something that is not a piano ballad, like I want something bigger & sth new too but you all act like BB is the worst album ever created Like it has some strong lyrics, the production is not that bad, the production is actually good it's just that those are ballads mostly. Also this album has, especially vocally, some new & interested moments too. I know we are all tired of piano ballads but like hating every day on an album it is just not it & won't make anything better.
I get if you don't like the album & are scared that LDR9 won't be much different but the amount of the drag here recently is not it anymore. You guys are really picking up on even the tiniest things to crititze. Not saying that BB is perfect but I mostly only see negativity & dragging on here.
Anyways whatever

i think fine china and a few others could be released especially if she goes in a pop direction, most would be better with a rework though obv as her voice has changed

i disagree.. if it wasn't for leaks nobody would know they were old songs. it's still her original work and she didn't intend for anyone to hear it back then. it isn't really her responsibility to cater her albums to what people decide to leak.. trust me, TONS of artists release tracks recorded years and years ago it's just that nobody knows about it.. like yeah it's "boring" for you guys because you're huge fans and listen to every leak but for the general public and the vision lana has for the album she (imo) shouldn't be judged or seen as lazy for using songs that didn't fit on previous records

i'm personally fine with including 1 or 2 tracks that we already have, but when they make up half the record then that's just lazy and boring. especially if we had them for years

for the record, i’m somebody who is very against the idea the idea of putting leaked tracks onto albums because of the fact that they’re already out there & people have heard them, especially in the case of blue banisters where the leaked tracks were recorded 8 years prior to the other tracks & are still at a demo stage of recording, i think it’s better if the track is reworked, though, but with the case of thunder, she didn’t re-record the vocals & from what i’ve heard (i only listened to the album version once) it was like they filtered out the previous instrumental, idk, i think it’s subjective & nuanced, i do consider adding leaked tracks without any changes a bit lazy & less enjoyable to me compared to entirely new songs, but that’s just how i feel

I don't understand the sudden disapproval of Erickson? His compositions are masterful. If anyone is responsible for the weaker Blue Banisters cuts (Beautiful, Violets for Roses) is Lana herself. He does a great job and I'm super excited for this new record.
I also don't think this will be another "Chemtrails over the Blue Banisters", as I have been reading on social media. I feel like this new one and Norman will sandwich Chem and Blue. I always see those records are just little projects, although they are some of my favorite work of hers.

Does anyone think Rick will come back at any point or is she just done with that style of songwriting? I miss his work!

It's amazing how different lyricism hits different people, because I find nothing redeeming about the lyrics of Watercolor Eyes and they don't touch almost anything on the past three albums in terms of that

Yup. This is exactly why I think that while a song like "hope", while lyrically interesting, is a dud, it's boring, it doesn't make for casual listenings.
I think the stream of consciousness lyrical style works on certain songs, like "Text Book", but otherwise it's not really the vibe I prefer from her.
The "wordiness" doesn't always sound very melodic to me either tbh, it's kinda jarring at times, especially when it's paired with the faux-grand/understated type of production we had on NFR.
I'm just cautiously excited for new music at this point.

exactly speak your truth. i think most OG stans feel this way (most of them do they just don’t wanna admit it but we know)
i think after this album a lot of stan cards will be handed in…once again but hey that’s just what it is can’t do much about it anyway. If this album is another bb or dare i say it even worse/messier (which for now doesn’t exactly sound very different especially with the producers involved) it’ll be the 4th album on this downward spiral for many people in the fandom and it’ll kinda be pointless to expect/wait for her to give us what we want/need again cause it just won’t be happening. Unfortunately no relationship lasts forever even with your favorite artist, we can only wait and see

I completely agree. While Blue Banisters is good, it’s very hard to just casually play and enjoy the songs, it takes a very specific headspace and when you’re in that headspace it isn’t a ‘jam out’ mood.
I do fear that her and I are going different directions, and it’s super easy for other users to say “well if you don’t like her or the direction she’s going, stop being a fan” because truthfully I’m not as big a fan of her as I was and it breaks my heart. I’ve had such a connection with her and the music for 10 years and it’s sad that I can’t vibe to her new music like I used to. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m so happy for the people who are happy at the direction she’s going and are getting exactly what they want from her, but I’m not anymore. When she describes the new album as wordy and raw it just sounds even less like what I want

yeah I think the super wordy, stream of consciousness lyrical style she has lately kinda kills the vibe.
It’s really impressive songwriting but personally there’s no replay value for me. The music isn’t catchy or “fun” to listen to. And paired with the bare bones instrumental style she’s arrived at…not really easy listening
but I have faith, she said there’s drums and orchestra right?

the thing about 'wordiness' that gets me is she also says she isn't using colors and is just singing what comes to mind. So many of her songs have been super descriptive, and quite frankly she's doing the opposite of what I've been wanting her to do. Instead of going back to a creative writing style she's doubling down on her more recent writing style. I'm trying hard to not be negative, and I'm going to wait until we get a taste of the new music, but I am a little nervous

And that's something we have to remember---she changes her mind so often, and a lot of times, her comments on an upcoming album, and what is eventually released, don't seem to jibe...
Even the songs that she refers to with the excessive lyrics might be cut from the album, or may have already been, between the time she did the interview and the the day it was released (yesterday). Do we know for certain that the interview was done much earlier than the photos?
Lana almost always takes us down the rabbit hole in terms of expectations and what ends up being released. Let's not forget that she dropped perhaps as many as half of the new BB songs and changed that album's course in what might have been midstream. When not even release dates or album titles remain in place, or are accurate, there's nothing we can hold as definite.
