  1. Weird comparison. Cosmetic surgery doesn't really harm you like an eating disorder does. In some severe cases it does become a product of mental illness and it becomes an addiction, but most of the time people just want to get it for aesthetic purposes. People wanna change something about their face/body cause they think it'll look better so they get it done. It doesn't harm anyone. It's not really that deep most of the time. If it makes people happier and they get it done safely I don't see why people got a problem with it.

It doesn't harm anyone? You do realize that surgery is a big deal, right? Every single surgery carries the risk of death with it. People--mostly women--are risking their lives to conform to an arbitrary standard of beauty. That's harmful.

  2. In the distant past, relatively speaking, artists like Carly Simon sailed into their 30s and 40s looking as beautiful and striking as ever--and also mature and womanly, stylish and attractive, if not overtly sexual. And continued to be successful in the pop market. Debbie Harry of Blondie did the same thing--she was born the same year as Simon, and greatly reduced the more obviously sexual aspects of her persona as she aged.

More recently, Tori Amos has struggled to find the right pop persona after 35 years of age, but has done a reasonably good job of it.

There's no reason at all that LDR can't present herself as a beautiful, classy, sophisticated woman in her 30s or 40s, as Simon did, or as Julie Christie and Lauren Hutton appeared to the world in their 40s.

'Attractive' when applied to a woman doesn't have to mean 'cheap' or 'obvious' or 'overtly sexual.'

    But what about their ears:w8ing:

  3.

She looks more like her Aunt.

Hilarious. Her ears are too big for that hair-behind-the-ears look.

Additionally, her ears are also too low on her head for ‘classic beauty,’ as the upper spot where the ear meets the head should be directly in line with the middle of the eye.

As long as she’s happy with her appearance, I am okay with however she wants to present herself physically.

But these recent looks sure aren’t glamorous, which, of course, I am sure she realizes.

the misogyny jumped out. now women's fucking EARS are points of criticism? jfc.

  4. Does it bother anyone else that the album goes from Love to Fear? Isn't that the opposite of her message? I feel like it would make more sense the other way around, ending with "End of the Earth."

  5. i don't mind that she doesn't wear makeup and put on fancy clothes every day, she has no obligation to perform for us when she's not on a stage.... makes me think of how mean some of you can be too which really bothers me, i used to do a full face every day for years and was extremely insecure, and now i only put on makeup when it's a special occasion where i know i will be photographed, and it's not because i'm lazy (i'm not). learning to love my unaltered appearance was really hard but worth it, i think lana looks gorgeous without makeup and i would want to look like that any day. i'm happy that she's comfortable enough with herself to go out without anything on. at the end of the day that's how we all look and i feel like u guys forget that sometimes :/ obviously she looks a little different lately because she's always doing something w her face but honestly i don't care.. she can do what she wants and if she's happy with it then our opinion doesn't matter anyways, she should do things for herself and no one else. but it really is super disheartening to see so much criticism towards a bare face :( and don't even get me started on what u all say about her weight.... anyways i love her, and while i absolutely adore all of her looks that require more money and more effort, i really admire more that she goes out looking like herself. but yeah. margaret atwood was right. male fantasies, male fantasies...

thanks for this post. i wonder how many of these comments are coming from men who have no idea what it is like to be judged for not putting a mask on every day. lana is comfortable with herself and that's all i can hope for any woman. i think criticism of her laziness when it comes to promotion and her music is beyond fair--but she doesn't need to dress up for anyone if she doesn't want to. she doesn't owe us glamor when she's obviously so over it.

  6. omg does she say "strange weather" at the end? now my username applies to both my faves  :defeated:

I like the song a lot, but I think it will be a bit of a grower. Ready for the album and glad we don't have to wait that long.

  7. I understand a woman has every right to do whatever she wants, to me thats what feminism is. But i'm just not on board with the whole "acting more like a man to be equal" sort of thing, it's just annoying seing a woman repress her power like that. Men are fugly so why are so many women nowadays trying to be more like them?? there's nothing wrong with being feminine

What exactly is masculine about a woman in her natural state (that is, without makeup)? She's not in drag. She's just not the over-the-top beauty queen that shallow fans want her to be anymore. Femininity is imposed upon women, so yeah, there is something wrong with that.

I, for one, am loving natural Lana. She has shed all pretense and I'm happy for how far she has come to be this comfortable with herself. It's not easy.

  8. - Lana only sang half of some of the lyrics on the BTD songs and let the background singers/tracks or the audience fill in the rest - sometimes it seemed as if she was a little bit bored by those songs.

    - too many effects on her voice on some of those louder songs – why, Lana? Your voice is so beautiful, it doesn't need (too much of) those gimmicks.

yikes, i have been enjoying this tour so much (her attitude! her ad-libs! her lyric and melody changes! actually performing songs off her latest album!) but seeing the show in full (on the the professionally recorded livestreams that we luckily got this era) has made these exact issues sorely stand out. certainly they can alter the songs to make them shorter/in a different key? or alter/omit sections she wants to avoid? i'd prefer that to her letting the backing track/audience sing for her.

"get free" is an example of lana at her best this tour. you can tell she believes in this song. there is the right amount of audience interaction and it's shortened so she can give it her all.

"and the darkness out of MY art. . ."

interesting. i'm ready for a happier lana.

  9. Struggle to find the right key? How can an artist struggle to find the right key to their own song it's ridiculous lol

well...singing a song in the studio is a completely different experience from performing it live, which is more unpredictable. on the other hand, does lana rehearse much for her tours? because it comes off like she doesn't--she could overcome these things by taking the time to plan out ahead adjustments to songs and such. love isn't even her most challenging song!

  10. i think lana doing collabs was important in her journey. i remember writing and seeing so many comments on here begging for lana to switch it up and do something out of her comfort zone, and she did! i don't really care for the outcome of those collabs, lol, but i hope they have inspired her to do new things and take risks on her next album. i only want a marina collab in the future, no one else.
