i think her heart was in the right place when she wrote coachella, i just think it was uh... quite reductive and this really contrived attempt at pushing herself in a different direction. i think she was really out of her comfort zone and it just came off corny as hell

i could be wrong but i feel like hardcore lana fans (say this loosely now lol) are feeling this intense disappointment at her laziness and want to punch her whereas normies who have never been stans probably just think the delay is creating excitement and anticipation... and that could be why it sells a truckload and does really well (granted i could be delusional here)

i don't know, i definitely have to be in the mood for it but i think hope is an achievement in the respect that it's solely about her and there's a tonne of very literary creative imagery in there with inspo that doesn't involve the colour blue, men, drugs, cars, LA or any of that vacuous stuff that has been really fun but has got quite repetitive. i'd say it's the most serious actual songwriting she's done in a while, especially since LFL

i've had a think about what it is we're actually waiting on and when you think of it as several songs we've already heard as well as extra minutes of songs we've already heard and no accompanying music videos, most likely no performances..... it really seems like.... nothing.

in a way i do think it's always been there. i mean she's always unapologetically documented the most vacuous aspects of LA and celebrated them, was easy to see it as this cultural snapshot showing the good and bad, but she's obviously about that life

i also thought she was way deeper than she is. i thought she had way more about her, but given the descent of her lyrics and her repetition i've started to realise she's pretty much a one trick pony who is actually very one dimensional. i think that's why her drastic and unexpected change of image gave me some hope and i do like it, but given her output is lazier and nonexistent ehhh. not to say i don't enjoy some of the new stuff, she definitely knows how to present things really beautifully musically. it's just theorising any deeper leaves you disappointed these days

she is so prolific when it comes to songwriting and has god knows how many great songs she just tosses into the air THIS MAKES IT ALL EVEN WORSE. never been more convinced this is just defiance

have to say, i know straight guys that have 'tried her' but that's been it. they uhh, haven't seemed like they've 'got her' at all what's to 'get' i don't know

my heart did break a bit when i discovered 13 beaches was written for the fans, really starts to feel almost apologetic the more you listen to it

same pretty much. i love aesthetics, i think her lack of videos has been a huge shame and i've loved how she's styled herself, i even appreciate her minimalism of late cos it's brave but it's mostly about the music for me.

i think your personal preferences about how she looks are greatly influencing your "logic" here and tbh i'm really not hearing anything of substance other than "i personally find the way she's presenting herself ugly now and i can't understand why she'd do that so i doubt it's her choice to look how i personally find ugly." no matter how many people and bands you reference (i'm 30 by the way, i'm aware of pretty much everything and everyone you've referenced, isn't news to me) i'm done here lol. this is circular.

sorry but some of the discourse here is basically "BOO SHE'S NOT LOOKING AS PRETTY AS I PERSONALLY WANT HER TO AND SHE HASN'T EVEN GOT AN EXCUSE LIKE BEING AN ADDICT." and it's so tiresome and absolutely problematic af. "she's looking ugly in photos now." is really not a good intellectual argument. and acknowledging people "like looking at beauty" without acknowledging the standards involved and the myriad ways which they oppress people is gross as hell, sure people like 'beautiful things', what we associate as being 'beautiful' is also greatly decided for us in society at large by multimillion dollar companies and it is garbage and should be challenged. aesthetically i understand the disappointment absolutely, but tearing apart her features and imperfect 'angles' now? it's weird and creepy and not a good look. by all means we can notice she has had surgery, by all means we can have an opinion on that choice but some of this is just... nauseating.

think you've answered this yourself here. it is and maybe that's the whole point. as i said i don't think it's entirely about 'maintaining interest' it isn't if she isn't concerned about losing fans, which she isn't. what it can be is creatively self explorative.
