  1. it was her choice, but so is this. course they're going to take notice, that's why i said previously a dramatic shift in persona is often to keep interest and longevity in the industry. it presents her to a potential new audience, it allows her to express herself in a different way. she has many different influences and whether that shift is dramatic or gradual to me is just pedantry. david bowie's shifts weren't gradual at all, even musically. he risked alienating his audience on many occasions. lana has said herself losing fans isn't something that worries her, so unprofessionalism aside, i can't see why this wouldn't be deliberate.
  2. david bowie went from plain folk type singer to ziggy stardust in a very short time, it's the reverse but i don't see how it's different cos he's a man lol.
  3. the way i see it a shift is a shift. only difference i see here is she's not choosing makeup and is going quite androgynous, the instagram post of her wearing a suit being one example. i just don't see how her new look isn't 'beautiful' just because it's not as sexual, i also know people who went wild for her bare faced wearing that suit so it's subjective.
  4. i think what's being forgotten though is change in public appearance/persona is not a new phenomenon when it comes to artists in music, it's often a way of keeping longevity. what IS new and unusual is the way she's not releasing anything and conducting her career unprofessionally
  5. love this and agree. i don't think she should be policed on how she chooses to look, no matter what that look is and why. i think it's problematic to assume something 'negative' is afoot because she doesn't look how we want her to. people are free to change and changes in how you present yourself can be a natural progression. i hoped the bare face was indication she was more comfortable with herself, but ultimately the most revealing thing overall is how she behaves towards her fans and her work. we're all fighting a similar damn battle to be 'beautiful'
  6. i don't see how it's an 'identity crisis' or a call to be 'taken seriously' just to tone down your image tbh. i feel more like she's trying to transcend and show different sides to herself. her influences are pretty diverse, so it makes sense she's not gonna be UV era lana forever. it's bizarre however cos in that sense it's almost like she's wanting a career with some longevity (reinventing yourself seems to be the secret to this), her music and her slowness at putting it out says something else entirely though.
  7. lana i bet you smell like buttercups, toasted sandwiches and lavender xoxo
  8. to be fair we'll probably have heard virtually all of it before it doesn't come out lol see what i did there? -crickets-
  9. the cellophane video is what you think you look like when you're drunk and fooling around with someone's floor lamp and i'm here for it
  10. i thought she said this was the happiest time of her life though? hence her new relaxed and even make up free image, whereas previously she'd openly said she was depressed. obviously i know she's had a complicated relationship with fame and not everything she says can be taken at face value. i'm inclined to think she's just complacent, has pretty much everything she wants in terms of career and doesn't care. even in terms of awards, i think if she'd ever cared about that she'd have been way more interested in doing promo which has always been nonexistent with her. i think she's just achieved everything she wanted to
  11. i feel like in the future honeymoon will be regarded as her low-key masterpiece, i'm not suggesting it's my favourite album of hers but i think she massively grew up in terms of sound on it and it was ahead of the game and unlike anything else released at the time. was it particularly fun? no. were there many bops in the traditional sense? no and i think in some ways it was darker than ultraviolence, but it was such an incredibly mature record. i genuinely feel it had some of the greatness of some of the old time singers my grandparents would listen to
  12. agreed. i know she hasn't been around that long and 33 is nothing but she defo seems to be at that stage in her life where she wants a more domestic existence. i remember when she was about 30 saying she hoped for marriage and babies "within the next 5 years." i do love the NFR songs for the most part but yeah, ANYTHING but a slow decline for the love of god
  13. her lack of promotion has been a frustrating problem anyway, but there's no way she's gonna have any enthusiasm for promoting this, which is a shame cos i genuinely felt like she could finally get a grammy for NFR.
  14. not gonna lie, i'd rather she just quit music than keep doing this. sorry if this has been said before but i remember when born to die came out and she said she "may make just one album" (sorry can't cite the source, was an interview), i feel like the intent to drop what she feels is her best work and then stop is the kind of thing she always felt romantic about, she just probably hasn't been able to do it cos the stakes are higher
  15. on the plus the cover means we don't have to deal with some of her mediocre lyrics that have been repeated 4000 times, i think wild on you is gorgeous..... if you listen to it with amnesia
  16. wow, i've been officially registered for just a day but we're losing her aren't we.
  17. so uh... does this mean stuff is happening? guys? guys? hi
