There's this one called "God Bless America", I'm not sure where I got it from, but I really enjoy it (maybe one of you made it?).

Honestly, I really like UV, but Born To Die is absolutely untouchable.
  3. xAlex liked a post in a topic by Poor Stacy in My experience at the Seattle show— just some FYI and warnings
I was at the same show, but I arrived after the doors opened (I had to work before the concert). As soon as I walked into the theater, the security guy was on stage talking about how concerned he was re: people passing out & not moving in the crowd.

While I would normally do my best to get as close as possible (while respecting the other attendees around me), I glanced around at the audience & decided to just stand back by the sound area instead. The crowd was pretty nauseating -- there were a few teenage girls taking selfies in the middle of Lana's set, a few other teenage girls were basically twerking & dancing on each other when 'Ride' was being performed, etc.

I had a nice time because Lana was much better live than I expected her to be, the band was wonderful, & Lana seemed sweet as usual, with plenty of kind words for Seattle. That said, I don't think I'll be going to see her live again if her concert demographic remains the same.

I'm a 23 y/o guy, too, just for context, but I was sad to find out that the horror stories regarding Lana's audiences at her concerts were true. A bunch of really obnoxious, mean, & self-absorbed Tumblr-lite teenagers who seem to suck any meaning or depth out of Lana's music & performance. I secretly hope Lana loses them with 'Ultraviolence'...

@@Monicker sent me a link to this fantastic episode of "Popcast", a podcast produced by The New York Times' ArtsBeat culture blog. A discussion between Jon Pareles, the author of that great NYT review, and Ben Ratliff, the skeptical yet open-minded host, this is the most intelligent conversation I've heard about LDR in the media ever. Truly a must listen. Apart from being just a great podcast, another reason @@Monicker sent it to me is because I'd told him he'd probably think I was crazy, but the guitar intro of "Cruel World" reminds me in small ways of the intros to several different Beach Boys songs. He did think think I was crazy at first, so we were both incredibly amused when Jon Pareles backed me up! Anyway, @@Monicker says it better than I can so I'll let him introduce it:

I actually thought this was a great interview! At this point I don't expect anymore to learn much about her past or anything detailed experiences/events, but there was a bit of both of these things here! And she seems content, not stressed out or upset at anything.

I'm just rooting for her and any signs she's motivated to keep making and performing music make me happy.

Top Trilogy/Perfection: Sad Girl / FMWUTTT / Ultraviolence

Next Best/Seriously great: West Coast / Brooklyn Baby / Shades of Cool / Cruel World / PWYC

Very Good: MPG / Old Money  / The Other Woman

    Bonus:

    1) Is This Happiness
    2.) Black Beauty
    3.) Flipside
    4.) GNR
    5.) Florida Kilos

FK feels so out of place on an otherwise fully formed, cohesive artistic statement. It feels like a throwaway from the LG days, back when Lizzy was more obsessed with being Lolita than The Lonesome Queen.

I'd get reallllllllllllllllllllllllly nerdy about her melodies and songwriting and talk about a ton of unreleased songs, probably. Get really in tune with her favorite places to write, the times, stuff like that. I'm infinitely interested in so many of her songs she'll probably never talk about.

I think UV is definitely about Jimmy ! Call me crazy but here is my Lanalysis:
"deadly nightshade", "loving you is really hard": it wasn't a simple, happy relationship with an ordinary guy. K & Jimmy are the only guys who would've called her like that imo "filled with poison": Lana used to drink a lot of alcohol at this time, so it must be about one of her early realtionships (again K or Jimmy), and we also assumed that they met in rehab "Jim taught me", "your my cult leader" : we've said before that Jimmy inspired her to be a better musician, she used to "stalk" him, so maybe he was like a teacher or idol to her "he hit me and it felt like a kiss", "he hit me but it felt like true love": I don't think this is meant literally, maybe it's more like he wasn't that interested in her in the beginning but she didn't understand his behaviour and was just happy to see him "Jim brought me back", "Jim raised me up": he was her cure in rehab "reminded me when we were kids": the we could be about K & her, we've already figured out that Jimmy probably reminded her of K because both of them had a drug addiction and were "bad boys" "I can hear sirens": again an allusion to K, maybe she left Jimmy because she knew that she couldn't take it to see another boyfriend going to prison as well --> so maybe it was "ultraviolent" for her to leave him ? "I could've died right there": well yes, she had a "bad disease" at that time if you get what I mean "he was right beside me": again rehab ? "we could go back to New York": OMG, they were in rehab together and then they were planning to go back to NY for music perhaps "where they don't know who we are": they are both famous now "I love you forever": she let him come on tour with her

Brooklyn Baby, Florida Kilos or Sad Girl.

    Or Is This Happiness.

If "Say Something" got on the radio, any of UV's songs can end up on the radio...okay, except for FMWUTTT.

i have so many favourites but these are just a few

    YAYO (AKA version)
this song is honestly the most beautiful love song i have ever heard. it captures so much emotion and it makes me so sad to think that lana is no
longer with the man this is about. even though their relationship probably had flaws, i feel like this song captures one perfect moment. it captures how it feels to truly need someone's love. i say captures too much. sorry

    ON OUR WAY
this song makes me cry and smile at the same time. smile because she is so sweet and the way she sings kaaaayy-mart. but cry because i don't think lana and her lover ever really ran away, never really just got in the car and drove away forever. i sound stupid, i know, but i just really love this song. and the video. oh my.

    KINDA OUTTA LUCK
makes me so happy. makes me want to go be a femme fatale. i went through a phase where i listened to it religiously.

    KILL KILL
such a soothing, summery vibe. makes me want to lie down on a sunny beach with my feet in the sand.

    NATIONAL ANTHEM
both versions. but the demo version feels so badass.

honourable mentions: you can be the boss, lolita (demo with the fast music), put me in a movie, mermaid motel, trash magic
  15. xAlex liked a post in a topic by GodBlessMe in Is This Happiness or Flipside - your favorite bonus track?
I actually really don't like flipside. I have never listened to it all the way through...
