  1. The vinyl cost all sorts of prices depending on colour, location, etc etc. I found this image on a post here that shows the price of one variant at 30 Euros in the Netherlands. I think in Australia it cost a typical, expensive price for new vinyl - about $60 Australian. http://lanaboards.com/topic/10278-norman-fucking-rockwell-pre-release-thread/?do=findComment&comment=829324
  2. I know not everyone likes Billie (I don't have a strong opinion either way), but this photo is iconic and symbolic of what recent music owes to Lana.
  3. I'm on about my tenth listen, and the changeup doesn't even sound like two different parts anymore, just the logical progression of the song.
  4. Flashing back to one of the worst moments of cringe in LDR fandom - when people were going after and harassing Jimmy Gnecco because they thought he was her abusive ex (from Ultraviolence).
  5. I think this is going to be a bad song for reaction videos, because it gets so much better and more coherent on second/third listen, but here is one that really gets it (he's a relatively new but committed Lana fan):
  6. The transition part that goes from silence to the beat part brings to mind Pink Floyd's ode to paranoia, On The Run
  7. Just listened for the first time after a sleepless night (not because of waiting for the song, but because some asshole decided to let off fireworks at 2:30 in the morning. First feelings. Overwhelmed and crying, but that might just be my tiredness. I think Lana is the queen of making a seven minute song feel way too short. It's been a while since I've felt physically affected by a song like this. Gotta get something to eat and listen again. Lord help us through this whole era.
  8. I've had a feeling all along that Lana's whole career has just been a project to allow Rob to become a star.
  9. I love these verses, in fact the whole song. They're definitely a highlight. On the other hand, I also love 'Hope ..'. The reason I care more about music than sport is that with music you don't have to pick a team above all the others.

    Weyes Blood

Following on from her feature on a John Cale record, Natalie has appeared on a podcast discussing the Nico album 'Desertshore'. https://podbay.fm/p/jokermen/e/1675047600 This is actually one of my favourite records of all time, and this discussion is one of these 'worlds collide' moments for me that seems to happen more than you'd think. I'm not sure whether this podcast allows their episodes to be accessible forever, so if you're reading this in the future and you can't listen to it, hit me up, and I'll hopefully have an alternate link for you.
  11. It's funny how much an insider giving a definite detail and then backtracking on it (or giving unverified reasons why it's been changed), looks pretty much like someone just making stuff up.
  12. I'm also in the '3am' club, which makes me wonder if I should just not go to sleep at all on Valentines Day night lol.

    65th GRAMMY Awards

If you're upset about the G's, be thankful that at least you're not a Christian Right Winger who thinks there was a Pfizer sponsored Satanic ritual there https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7v9gy/republicans-satanic-grammy-sam-smith-kim-petras
  14. I'm not sure what it was, but it happened sometime in 2012 (at the latest).

    65th GRAMMY Awards

Honestly, every year this thread is more fun and entertaining than watching the actual broadcast.
  17. I will forever be amazed at how even most fans (let alone haters) misunderstand the genius of what Lana achieved with 'The Other Woman'. From the sound design, which mimics AM radio - a sound so distinctive to those of us of a certain generation, that younger fans may not even have ever heard in their life, through to the way she switches the meaning of the song 180 degrees without changing a word, from the Nina Simone version, simply through her vocal expression. I can't even remember if I've posted this before, but I'll bang away about this until it's recognised (which will probably never happen).
  18. Regarding 'Let The Light In', has anyone mentioned this Leonard Cohen song Anthem, here covered by Father John Misty. It has the lyric "There's a crack, a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in", which is often attributed to Leonard Cohen as a 'famous quote', but does not always get connected to this song. ETA: Also, it is usually quoted as "There's a crack in everything" (cutting out the second 'a crack'), which proves that people who run 'motivational quotes' websites have no idea how poetry works.
  19. It can be, but again, it's more a convention than a real rule. Some drummers argue that a band can't have two drummers (one should be drummer, the other percussionist), while other people say there's no problem having two drummers if the band needs it. 'Percussionist' doesn't really give us a definite idea of which instruments are involved or not involved.
  20. Drums vs Percussion - in reality, there's no difference, but there's a convention that there is one drummer on a kit who keeps the beat and is the 'lead' percussionist, and then anyone else who plays drums is called a percussionist. Keyboard vs Piano - again, it's more a convention than a strict rule, but usually piano is acoustic, while keyboard is electronic/synth.
  21. I tried to find other examples of 'Visionary Awards' which might give us some insight, and a couple of possibly relevant ones: CMT's Video Visionary Award: ""recognizes an artist's extraordinary musical vision, innovative and groundbreaking music videos and pioneering initiatives in entertainment" American Folk Art Museum Visionary Award: "honors an individual, institution, or project that has made a unique and distinctive contribution to the field" I guess somewhere in there is what the Billboard award is for
  22. Has anyone seen an explanation from Billboard of what the Visionary Award actually is for? It's one of those vague terms that could mean a number of things.
