It really would be such a serve, but I don’t see it. Aesthetically, COCC is at her plainest and she was already heading that way with NFR with those homemade movies. It’s already hinted that she’s going even more country Americana next. I have faith that she can make folk glamorous but that’s only if she chooses.

The Slant review is fair. NFR! is loved by critics because it packages all the things Lana is known for (Southern California, good melodies, lyrically contemplating about dark things) but there’s not much risk taking vs COCC.

UV > NFR! > HM > COCC > BTD/P > LFL I think Honeymoon edges COCC because it’s more aesthetically realized, especially visually.

I haven’t listened to the leak for a few days and instead have been re-listening to older albums, particularly Honeymoon since the first go-around I was ambivalent about it That might be a mistake because Honeymoon sets a high, high bar for what peak Lana is

Ever since QFTC, the tide has been against her in the US. Annie Mac interview did nothing to fight back the Lana Del Reycist memes. But also, COCC is the opposite style of the music that’s making her popular amongst that 14-21 demo (Queen of Disaster, Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight etc)
