  1. Are there any other publications we are expecting to post reviews & have it count towards Metacritic?
  2. I was expecting a 78 max on Metacritic before the album dropped given the controversies. I hate that I’m channeling energy to make sure that COCC stays at 80+, music publications are mostly a waste nowadays. Looking back on it, NFR! felt like an album that maximized the general public’s perception of Lana—a Southern California sad girl. But I still love it for the melodies and soundscape. However, I am forever thankful that she recorded and released White Dress, so much so that it dwarfs my high opinion of NFR.
  3. i’m more excited for this than any other upcoming project she has. fewer expectations, less press, but more insights into the inner Lana. I feel like the institutions she would talk about in this book- the music industry/Grammys, her time in boarding school, rehab, Princess Diana?
  4. If it weren’t for the fact that Lana is already mentally over this album, I would feel bad
  5. How does the AV Club’s music section end up getting accepted into Metacritic? https://music.avclub.com/lana-del-rey-s-chemtrails-over-the-country-club-lives-i-1846526282
  6. I’m sure Lana wouldn’t ever let it happen / admit it but I can see LMLYLAW or Wild at Heart being submitted to adult contemporary / soft rock radio
  7. Emily Ratajkowski is a famous model, especially for the Instagram era.
  8. Ben & Ed, get better security so leaks don't come out so early. But I can see why nobody casual is really getting into it. Country/folk not being popular, Taylor did her version of it in 2020, doesn't capture the undercurrents of the times like LFL or NFR did.
  9. Is COCC actually flopping on Spotify? I can understand it underperforming to NFR, but what about it relative to Spotify in general these days?
  10. The good reviews that count on Metacritic are mostly coming from non-US publications.
  11. Yeah, the first 3 seconds of Yosemite are at the end of NAWWAL. I saw somewhere that it was fixed for them but I am still experiencing it.
  12. White Dress is the ultimate ice skating song, with or without the music video. I was reading old interviews during the NFR era and Lana said she had thought what songs would go best to a skating program and if she could incorporate herself skating into a MV. We all know how that turned out...
  13. It would’ve been traumatic. Best not to run into Scooter Braun and Mustin tbh
  14. I loved How to Disappear on NFR but Wild at Heart blows it out of the water. The instrumental bridge in HTD seems kinda filler now
  15. If it’s a Zach Dawes production, Arctic Monkeys’ AM type of rock? or my personal fave, Humbug
  16. I can only hope he disavows her for writing a song called "Tulsa Jesus Freak"
  17. No wonder the head of Polydor sounded so confident I hope US numbers won’t take that much of a hit.
  18. DTWD bridge is about 30 seconds long, so you can just jump to that part and it would count as a stream (i think)
  19. I doubt she plans the rollout like that. My theory is that it was because she was so unconfident about COCC that she wouldn’t want to interfere with the reception leading up to it. For the most part, Lana lets her music speak for itself. She could’ve used the Pitchfork review but that article has less salience because it’s so inscrutable for an Instagram story.
  20. The think piece is gonna include how Lana appropriated culture by going to an Afro-Caribbean two-step when you read the lyrics, it includes Joan Baez but if you’re thick-headed enough, you won’t catch it
  21. She’s working on a longer form version of that article I suppose you can make that argument before COCC was released, there was cultural appropriation with like Florida Kilos or any trap-inspired music, but I can’t wait to read how she’s gonna reach with the songs on COCC.
  22. Lana’s “best friend” is Chuck when all is said and done. And Chuck is much more socially conscious, so I hope Chuck levels things with her. On her Instagram Live for the chemtrails promo, she mentioned that she made a lot of “personal strides” in the past year. She never reveals a lot so I’m hoping that these strides aren’t like her poetry book but also some introspection. In a way, if Lana stays in her lane of “white girl sad music,” it will be ok.
  23. What are some of her songs that take shot at the industry? High By The Beach, Brooklyn Baby, FMWUTTT... She doesn’t really drag anyone in those. They’re all generically targeted, so I don’t have any expectations for the lyrics to be explosive.
