love that you just admitted to being a bit of an idiot :oic2:

Self-awareness! 💁🏻‍♂️ I am hyper-sensitive (typical ADHD behaviour) especially if its a matter I care about. That said, it easy to just scroll past my comments or just add me to an ignore list.

I’m not saying anyone can’t enjoy her current music. I’m just stating my opinion on a forum (which is what a forum is primarily made for).

If we all had the same opinions, there would be no need to discuss any of this.

happy uv release year-th thread!! 2014!!!

I said there is nobody LIKE her not that nobody LIKES her. I know yall love to drag me and twist my words but come on…I’m not that much of an idiot. 😂💀

I feel like you got LDR all wrong. She doesn’t make music for you or for the Grammys lol. I doubt she goes into studio thinking “ooo this will surprise them”. She’s just following wherever her muse takes her. She’s probably the only artist who has ever been able to completely not be a slave to their fanbase whims and wishes while still retaining relevance.

you’re gonna like some things, and you’re gonna not like certain things. And that’s ok! But she’s not making the music for us.

She made LFL for her fans apparently and I ate that album up (I know the HM/elevator music clique hates it). At that time, the album was a huge gift although not perfect.

It’s crazy how people can claim to stan Lana but not understand that she’s an incredibly selfish artist. She doesn’t make music for us 😭, she makes it for herself which she has said numerous times, whether we like it or not. So if she wants to make 20 piano albums, she’s gonna make 20 piano albums!!!

I mean we are the people that basically make sure she can afford making music for herself. 💀

She can at least feed us every now and then? If she doesn’t wanna make a new BTD/UV/HM/LFL she can always release that unreleased anthology set she previously talked about. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I'd take that and shut up for a while.

Like I get that from an artistic standpoint she doesn’t owe shit to us but come on…she must know at this point that her current music isn’t clicking with as many people as her discography up to NFR. From a business standpoint that is a bit problematic.

maybe Lana's music isn't for you anymore. That's all.

Her current music? Yeah maybe not but I have her unreleased catalogue and previous album along with a few good songs every now and then to enjoy.

I just miss the days where I hit play and ended up loving each and every song on her albums. Now it’s hitting play and desperately hoping for a song that isn’t elevator music.

I know she still has it in her to surprise me. A&W was fucking amazing. Peppers sounds promising and Grandfather was much better on the second listen. I just don’t like the overall vibe and direction she has been pursuing for the past four albums. She stripped her music from nearly everything that made me a fan in the first place. I know there are a lot of people in her fan base who feel the same way. I’m just not afraid to say it. That’s the difference.

Either way, I'm very happy that she's finally being acknowledged as the talented and visionary artist she is and I will root for her if this album gets nominated for a Grammy even if I don’t end up liking it cause she deserves it so much. This album seems like it would be right up the Grammy committee's alley. So she might have a chance this time around!

Tbh people are going after u cause u said it pretty sassy but I kind of agree. I appreciate the interesting insight into Lana’s past but I do think a song like

      Reveal hidden contents

    Sweet or Fingertips

would work better as a poem. But don’t worry there will def be songs with more melody/production!

      Reveal hidden contents

Peppers, Taco Truck, Fishtail, Grandfather  all have stronger melodies and production

I’m just so tired of this…it’s the 4th album in a row to lowkey sound exactly the same. I’m sick of the piano and the quiet guitar.

girl shut upppp, we get it, you don't like the TAGGED leaks. :thumb3:

are you not even going to give yourself enough time to let them grow, or idk... listen to the entire album as a whole?

I will and I hope listening to them untagged will be better but so far I am not impressed. The songs are leaning more towards the title track which I listened to twice and then never again.

I just really can’t stand her automatic writing songs. They just aren’t interesting to me. They are like long poems without memorable melodies imo.

  8. Not sure if I already did this but overall her openers tend to be hit or miss for me.

1st ranking: Song quality (How I would rank the songs regardless of them being openers and more based on personal preference)

    1. Love
    2. Cruel World
    3. Ride
    4. Born to Die
    5. Norman Fucking Rockwell
    6. Text Book
    7. White Dress
    8. Honeymoon

2nd ranking: Opening (Does the song set the mood for the rest of the album? Was it the best option from the album overall?)

    1. Ride
    2. Honeymoon
    3. Cruel World
    4. Born to Die
    5. Norman Fucking Rockwell
    6. White Dress
    7. Text Book
    8. Love

I think the only one here that really shouldn’t have been the opening track is Love, especially when 13 Beaches was RIGHT THERE.

"Most people" = the very loud and obnoxious minority of people who feel personally victimized by a musical instrument

The song just doesn’t make me feel any type of way and trust me, there are some piano ballads that give me the feels. With Hope I feel she tried to convey a certain type of emotion that simply doesn’t click with me (and the majority of her fan base).

Give me Bel Air, Old Money, Love Song, Is This Happiness, Happiness Is a Butterfly any day over this. I think she's much better if she sticks to less complex structures because that’s where her melodies and the emotions of the songs truly shine. A&W and Venice Bitch however, are examples where she managed to create some sort of excitement through a rather complex song arrangement and structure.

The thing that annoys me with Hope in particular is how awfully pretentious it sounds in terms of lyrics and how the change in dynamic in the chorus leads to a dead end. It’s just very very unsatisfying for me, personally.

There's a lot to unpack with this song but imo it is up there with Hope, lyrically

I think the opening lines set the scene really nicely: "haven't done a cartwheel since I was nine" (that was the turning point in her life when she was forced to grow up/realised things and nothing was carefree anymore) and the line about Patty. And she goes on to lament that she can't be normal and have normal relationships.

It's only speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if "American whore" is something Patty called her given its context in this song. It seems almost sarcastic to me. And I think the "your mom called," etc is more so something one of her boyfriends said to her because she says it in a sing-song taunting voice and that also makes more sense in the context because it's a very introspective song

The part about being maimed/r*ped I immediately thought of Harvey (or another rich, powerful man) because

I mean look at my hair

Look at the length of it there, and the shape of my body

suggests this was a relationship where she was in the public eye at the time and that if she were to talk about it (or testify) people would refer back to photos (?) and say "well, look at how you were dressed" typical victim-blaming shit

And then I thought about how she would've been 33 in 2018 which was just after LFL and that was when she started writing all her poems and I remembered the line from one of the poems that was like "took a ride on a billionaire's jet" and I remember getting the impression from that poem that it had to do with a secret relationship with a billionaire. And maybe all this has nothing to do with what she's singing about but it's just stuff I have been thinking about

    Hope being somewhere "up"? :wat:

Wasn't this like a bottom 5 song from NFR for most people? :um:

It would never cross my mind to compare A&W's excellence with the dreariness and utter boredom of An iPhone Is a Dangerous Thing for Lana and Chuck to Have - But They Have It.

Does anyone else think that this song is spooky as fuck? I listened to it for the first time in the car with my gf the other day and it gave us both hardcore anxiety. The first part was fine, if a little boring, and the beat change was cool, but something about those sound effects was unsettling. I've listened to it since then in headphones while drunk and I've enjoyed it, but I'm legitimately afraid to listen again sober. It's like VBBOTG all over again, which I had to take a break in the middle of and come back to. I love that she's doing big production again and I'm very excited about the new album, but yikes.

Um… I think you might be confusing the emotion of fear with suspense maybe?

If Lana ever does audience requests again like she did for LA to the Moon tour in 2018, someone's gotta ask her to sing For K Pt 1 and put an end to this confusion once and for all :burn:

Or we can all just collectively agree to start referring to Pretty Baby as For K. :true: It's so obvious that that’s the title of it.
