Florida Kilos just bc it’s shit

I swear some of you just don't like her fun songs.

OP: This is actually quite hard. There are a few songs I don't listen to as much as I used to but I still consider them "my faves". I think I really can't stand Summertime Sadness anymore. It's probably her most overplayed song. I get why it's so popular though...It was one of the songs that got me into her and I still think it's one of her best but it's been very worn out.

If Lana performs Say Yes to Shit on tour before Blue Banisters, Fingertips, White Dress, Thunder, If You Lie Down With Me, Fishtail, Peppers, or Wild at Heart...oh I will be having a big issue

Please…she'll most likely do the same old BTD and Lust for Life songs over anything from HM, BB, NFR, COTCC & OB

I am slightly disappointed by the amount of piano ballads we’re getting/we’ve gotten again. Like, we’ve now had COCC, BB, all stripped down and mostly piano driven and Ocean Blvd was supposed to usher in a new sound supposedly, but to me this record just feels like a continuation of the previous eras since NFR, with the exception of a few tracks. I really wish Lana could just ditch Jack behind because he’s already given us his magnum opus w Lana and that was NFR, someone send him back to Taylor’s studio please.

It’s hard defending the claims Lana’s music puts people to sleep when half of her discography consists of dragged out piano ballads.

I feel the same way. I think I really could have done without Chemtrails and Blue Banisters. This album would have been a cute follow up to NFR but right now I’m just sick of the current direction because it hasn’t been as flexible and versatile as her pop production. It’s too limited and too much of the same old same.

Don’t see how this has to do anything with me. How about you worry about the people calling her work trash because they are stuck in 2012 😭😭😭😭 Now that is toxicity

The difference: They are allowed to have that opinion. It does not give you the right to insult them. Sure, it might be a controversial and provocative opinion but from what I’ve seen, their criticism was far more nuanced and definitely not as extreme.

If you don’t like it or their content in general, scroll past it or ignore them. If that doesn’t work, block them. It literally is that easy.

  5. While I may not love it as much as my top tier albums…

    Spoiler

It’s still a HUGE improvement from the last two albums. I obviously enjoy the trap/hybrid and soft rock songs more than the strict piano/gospel ballads. I do wish though, and that is my only complaint regarding the bops, that the trap beat didn't sound as cheap. It doesn’t blend that well with the muffled vocals and piano. It’s kind of like metal vs. wood but I can look past that.

Anyway, the second half of the album is quite wonderful. The title track has definitely grown on me listening to it in context.

Overall, this feels like a very very strong contender for AOTY and I think she may be bagging it.

You know it’s one of her best albums when people have very contrasting opinions on the same songs. “If everyone likes it then maybe it’s not that good” - LDR

That was something she said that I absolutely do not agree with.

I think if something receives universal acclaim, then it could definitely be considered good/great. It means that a lot of people with subjective tastes and different preferences seemingly agree on the quality of an album.

If something receives mostly mixed or very contrasting reviews, then I would consider the album in question “divisive”. This album, in terms of reception, reminds me a lot of Honeymoon. Back then you had people that loved the muddy trap songs but hated everything else and vice versa.

I've listened to the album 5/6 times now, I'm confident this will be my official ranking. Candy Necklace will probably push #4 and #5 down one or just #5. I can't imagine my top three changing.

    1. Fingertips

    2. Kintsugi

    3. Let the Light In

Screaming at this being the very anti-thesis to my ranking. 💀

is it going to a track that gets played frequently? probably not because it is more like a spoken word. but i just hate to see the comments of people just shitting on fingertips completely especially given the material covered within the song

sure, say that you’re not a fan of the track. but to say it “doesn’t belong on the record” is just tasteless

I see where you’re coming from and I agree to a certain extent but this discussion is totally subjective.

In my opinion, the song wouldn’t get nearly as much shit if she scrapped it from the tracklist and saved it for a second poetry project.

that is what a lot of you are failing to understand

fingertips is a poem. and it’s easily the most raw she’s ever been. putting out this track must’ve felt like therapy to her - being able to finally just let things be put out there and take a giant exhale

the girls that get it, get it

    Spoiler

I don’t think anyone is failing to understand that. The song definitely carries a lot of meaning but it shouldn’t have been a song on an album imo. At least not in this shape or form. It easily could have been restructured into a wonderful piece of music but the way it is right now? Easily interlude material…

If you consider it from a mental breakdown perspective where she’s in an asylum and mumbling about her broken past, it’s more interesting. Also, how can you hate the introspection and princess-sound of it? Really get into the orchestra, it’s a haunting track

I mean I definitely appreciate it from a lyrical standpoint but when I listen to music, I always pay attention to melody and production first and then lyrics. The song's production and the "non-existent" melody are what throw me off cause it isn’t particularly intriguing imo. But that really just boils down to subjectivity. Some people care more about lyrics…

it really isnt on the hatecrime level like In My Feelings or Breaking Up Slowly, so nah

In My Feelings is definitely one of my least faves from LFL but I could easily make it through that song. Listening to ********** more than two times was honestly hard to manage. Lyrically stunning but as a song? In terms of melody it goes absolutely nowhere. It reminds me a lot of a song that Björk would write and I can't stand her music either.

  12. Spoiler

Fingertips is hands down the worst song (released) she ever recorded and included on an album. 😴 I wanna like it but it really would have worked better as a poem.

I just can’t stand her wordy/no consistent melody type of songs. They may do it for some people but they just ain’t doing it for me. :bebe:

  13. First impression ranking (might change):

    Spoiler

I’m actually pleasantly surprised but could do without half of the album which I still feel is not particularly memorable. However, there are some extremely good moments on this album that have been missing on her last two albums.

    1. A&W 10/10
    2. Taco Truck x VB 10/10
    3. Fishtail 9/10
    4. Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing 9/10
    5. Peppers 8/10
    6. Margaret 8/10
    7. Paris, Texas 8/10
    8. Let The Light In 7/10
    9. Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd 5/10
    10. The Grants 4/10
    11. Kintsugi 3/10
    12. Sweet 2/10
    13. Fingertips 1/10

  14. Spoiler

Taco Truck x VB just further proves that Venice Bitch is THAT bitch. Amazing song and perfect closing track.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but I have a feeling that closing the album with that means that she's finishing the singer-songwriter era and moves on to something else?

She kinda did the same with Lust for Life with Get Free being a foreshadowing of NFR and also said that it was the last album (the 4th) to complete the BTD-series.
